Park crews at your mountain?

Curious how it is at other mountains..

Currently it seems like the park crew here wants nothing to do with anyone but themselves. Been up the lift with them a few times and they are less than friendly and dont care at all to hold out a convo with anyone from "the general public"

Does the title of park crew automatically mean youre better than everyone else?

Discuss.

One of my roommates is park crew, he's a pretty awesome dude, and I love heckling him from the lift. But it really depends hill to hill.

Schweitzer's park crew was rad, hard working, advocates for better parts, humble but good skiers.

Targhee's is similar, but I don't have much experience with other hills.

Well you know when you ascend to the lofty position of shoveling snow in to shapes 5 months out of the year, everyone else is pretty much below you.

Fuck those guys.

Chill dude. I'm park crew and I do all the work I've got in the morning and literally lap with anyone I feel like throughout the day, chatting the whole time. I love going up with random people (freestyle or not) and just talking, watching them ski and even meeting up with them again later on another run. I am a homeschooler of about 8 years so I love talking to people. Also I couldn't ski park when I started and I'm now pretty alright, with lots of flips and rail tricks under my belt. I'm not saying some park crew aren't dicks, I'm just saying me and my buddy who are park crew aren't. And don't get me wrong I hate dicks, why can't some people just be nicer?

I'm probably talking about the people the OP has experience with.

Fair enough. I probably don't have any experience with them and don't even know where they are. As I said, I'm not trying to talk for them.

pretty small freeski community at my hill and the park crew takes up half of it. theyre really chill guys and have started a program to bring kids into park skiing and show them the ropes.

feel bad for people at huge hills with lots of "cliques" or entitled people.

im on the park crew at my hill and i usually ignore the people who scream at you on the lifts asking when the feature is going to be open again or just saying stupid shit (usually ski club jerry's and young teenagers)

i pretty much ignore everybody when im raking and digging. I just focus on getting my work done and making the feature look good. If you seem like you know what youre doing in the park and open a conversation with anything other than "HEY WHEN IS THAT GONNA B OPEN AGAIN????" I'll chat with you but other than that im usually pretty quiet and dont talk to people.

Lift rides are a totally different story though, i'll spark up and answer any questions you have, mostly just ignore people while digging/raking.

This is literally me. I will admit I do ignore the kids like that too, I didn't mention that. And they constantly say "whys it shut?" Over and over if they don't get an answer, so they then kick snow down on you from the lift if it's near you. I once had one literally kick there ski off from the lift and nearly hit me. Drives me crazy. But other than that, yeah I'll talk to people on the lift. And then there's also the adults making "witty" comments about your rail when you are digging. It's not that funny.

Park crew at my hill is pretty sick this season compared to crew they had last season... They're all super nice. Drop rumors about new stuff and ask for input all the time. They are also super chill about letting you hit features that they're just about to close so you get "one more hit"

Park crew never really puts anything new in and they will take 20 minutes to rake a simple kicker that I have seen done in less than 5 min. I feel bad though cause all of the old good park crew guys quit so they have to do everything themselves.

They're a bunch of snowboarders from what I know, not employed by the hill, they're just riders that asked if they could have a park there and get some help from the hill. When they have snow and they shape it, the park is awesome and they get creative and really pay attention to details. But since they're not employed, the park can stay unshaped for many days, too many for the numbers of jerry's who sidejumps or bail out at the landing digging out snow or making icey bomb holes. It's really a shame because despite being the smallest hill, they could be the best park around. On other mountains I have rarely ever saw the park crew so can't say much.

Park crew is nice at Holiday Valley. Pretty chill all around. the Only thing is that they only rake like 3 times through a whole day but I know at times their boss can be a douche.

i never see them raking out lips and landings - like its a magical moment to see something being raked out - yeah its nice in the mornings but the park just goes downhill super fast through the day with how many people are going through there - kind of a bummer for sure when you want to hit some things later but the landings are just way too bombed out to not be sketchy

I go to a small hill resort in Ohio called Brandywine and our park crew is the worst. It being only 264 feet tall park is about the best thing to do here. The park crew is small, lazy, and apperently not clever. Everything is set up so sketchy and they lazily leave stuff ungroomed all the time.

whenever people tell me to put in certain features or if they ask me what's going to change and when i'll usually fuck with them pretty hard. like i'll say we're going to put in a giant 40ft rainbow to quad kink in the flattest part of the park. i don't need you to tell me how to design the park dude.

other than that i think we're a pretty friendly group. getting stoked if someone lands something sick or striking up a conversation about the hill that ultimately ends up in complaining about the resort management.

Pretty Sure Brundage Mountain in Idaho is looking for new park crew employees if anyone is interested, their park is pretty small but Ive seen ads

Hang Loose

Never had issues with the park crew at my mountain except some cunt that got all grumpy over me whacking a few 3ft icicles off the park shack

REALLY depends on the park crew. Even the specific members of that park crew.

When I was a park staff, I was always extremely excited to chat with people using the park. Helped me get a sense of what the people thought of our park, and gave me ideas for what to tweak to make things better for the people that used it.

However there were guys on the same crew that were total dicks that thought they were better than everyone, and only their homies were the ones with valid opinions.

Loads of great people, and loads of shitty people attracted to that job.

lmaoo my "maintenance crew" rakes like 3 times a month. Everything isn't as bad as it seems

Come through the parks here with a "chaaaaaaaa braaaaaaaaah" and I'd put money on you getting one right back. I've been at the beav 3 seasons now and everyone who I've ever worked with here has been super chill and probably putting in more physical work in 1 day than most will do in a week. All the while these guys have no problem having a pleasant conversation when approached with a question or something. As long as you're not tap dancing on our take-offs...

Terrain parks would have evolved in the 1700's if resorts had crews like we do. No joke. The 1700's

The park crew dudes that I worked with at my home hill were pretty fucking rad, most of them are still there

does whiteface have a nice park up right now?, i was thinking about heading up to lake placid for a few days.

Their parks are amazing right now. I'm hyped to see how Brookside is gonna turn out after they finish re-building the park before this weekend.

at the mountain in my town, the park crew is full of dudes I went to highs school with so I know all of them, but a big problem is management limitations. it fucks with so many things and ideas.

At my home mountain, the park crew was pretty fucking amazing. I would chill in the park shack all the time and those dudes were so real. Friendly as fuck and even had conversations on what to put in for the park on a fairly regular basis. Their limitation is the groomer being a douchebag and doesn't cooperate much with park crew. Park is still slept on heavy though. If you are in southern NH hit up Mt. Sunapee.

my new home mountain is insane. park is always on point and they groom constantly and have features put in constantly. Sugarbush is stupid fun.
