Parents just don't understand!

I am a weekend warrior and go to keystone every sunday.. but my parents want to end that! They say that im addicted... ( which is probably true) do you guys have the same problem with parents if your in high school?.. I just cant wait for college!!! How do I convince them to let me keep riding?
 
Well don't give them any reason to think that skiing is negatively affecting things like academics. But considering your attitude, I doubt that is the case.
 
Tell them skiing is a lifestyle, not a hobby. They most likely view it as a hobby and think you need to focus on other things. If this doesn't work, threaten to start hardcore drug use as previously mentioned.
 
do lots of talking about getting into drugs. bring it up more and more until when your parents are legitimately worried about it tell them youve decided to just ski instead and youll be using all that drug time for skiing. theyll be so happy that youre going skiing

 
I work at a ski mountain...it's been such a bad winter here that my Mom thought there wasn't any snow there...she couldn't figure out why I kept getting up at 4:30 in the morning to go to work...I had to text her pictures of the snow a few times this season, haha.
 
Just tell them that you'll kill yourself if they don't let you ski. Really fucked up, but I bet it'll work.
 
My parents love me.... So no. But in all seriousness just tell them there could be way worse things happening on Sundays if you can't ski.
 
lol, i have the same problem but im in college. i think parents not wanting you to ski is just something we are going to have to live with for a long time
 
I have similar problems with my parents, but I maintain my grades during ski season and they shut up. That's really how I can get them to allow me to do anything. If I'm in good standing at my school I can do whatever. If not they're less lenient.
 
ur parents are stupid, they should be glad ur skiing and have an outdoor sport. what do they want you to do ? sit around at the house and do nothing?

Are they paying for you to ski? I could see how they wouldnt dig that since it would be sort of expensive for them but otherwise thats just stupid! I agree with the aforementioned! They should support you! Youre lucky enough to have found something your passionate about, many people go through life without finding it, let them know that!
 
3rd year in college and my parents still tell me I'm addicted. And my mom hates it when I ski on huge powder days because she's worried, but I love her for it haha.
 
I finished school in '08 and havn't stopped skiing since. I havn't had a summer in 3 years. And my mum, just the other day, sent me an e-mail telling me how proud she was that i'm doing what makes me happy. Shitty situation there dude. I guess if you're under 18 that kind of sucks...but once you're an adult you have every right to do what makes you happy. Good luck man!
 
Haha, well done TOAST, perfectly fits the thread, since from 2:20, he wears a MEGEVE shirt, (Big french ski resort in the alps), I knew he shred.
 
Try to get good grades..most parents only worry bout school stuff, or as mentioned try the drug thing
 
Both of my parents are really big into skiing, and do anything they can to help me get to hills, buy equipment, etc.., and they expect me to ski bum for a few years so its all good

 
nope, my parents sent me to a boarding school that allows me to ski everyday during the winter. "RAGE SPOILED RICH KID BLARGGGGGGG!!!!"

no, im not a spoiled rich kid, i have skied for the team since i was 8 which helped me get in and i got a ton of financial aid. Also i pay for most of my gear, i would pay for all if i could have a job, but being at boarding school doesn't allow me to have one. I also find gear where it is cheapest and don't get new stuff every year unless it's 100% necessary.

If they pay for your stuff and thats the problem look around for the cheapest gear and offer to pay for most of it.

If theyre worried about your school work, either ski on Saturdays and do your work on Sunday, or do your work Saturday and ski on Sunday. Just make sure your parents know that you can still do well in school and ski on the weekends. My parents said if my grades slipped or i got in trouble im out of this school. Just make sure they know you'll stay out of trouble and keep your grades up.

 
Is there more to the story that you are not sharing with us? Are your grades at school respectable? Is skiing causing you to neglect other important responsibilities?

I'll be honest, as a 26 year old, while my parents didn't know EVERYTHING that was right for me, I wish I had listened to their advice a hell of a lot more when I was 16-20. They were right far more than they were wrong, despite how I felt at the time.
 
I guess the problem is your parents dont know how much fun it is so you could take them skiing for example or if thy are worried you could tell them you wear protective gear. In case they pay for it and dont want it because of that you could start a job and pay for it on your own. Or if they are worried about school work. Put some extra effprt during the ski season. And last thing it is an outdoor sport you get fresh air , you do something and you meet people!!
 
But you are a spoiled rich kid because 1) Only spoiled little brats get sent to boarding school, 2) Parents want their kids to grow up to be future douchebags, and 3) Only rich parents are okay with their kids skiing everyday because when they don't amount to anything, mommy and daddy can support them.

This. As a 27yo, I can now look back, and see that my parents were right 99% of the time. Your parents probably have a pretty damn good reason to tell you to stop skiing.
 
Or ski both days and do homework at night.

This is appalling. Whats wrong with being very into a physical activity? Its good for you
 
Try to defend yourself as much as you want, but you can't hide your suburban false sense of rich buy everything on credit roots.
 
I'm a weekend warrior too. Except my parents love skiing, and I go skiing on both days. My solution to you is to save up enough money, buy an RV, and become a ski-bum.

 
obviously your parents don't love you or else the y would realize what skiing means too you... my suggestion: run away!!
 
Just tell them that skiing has positively influenced your life and it gives you something to look forward to on the weekend. My parents are the same they wont let me go west or northeast for collage they think I won't pass any of my classes because I will be skiing to much.
