Parents and Auto Insurance

So I got my G1 in June and I drive pretty frequently with my parents. I have been saving up to buy a car come February so I brought the topic up with my dad and he said since that would be the third car under his insurance I would have to pay him $150 a WEEK. So what Im seeing is if this is common amongst parents.

I'm 21, and the only thing my dad still helps me pay for is car insurance, which is just under 800 a year for liability only for an 83 mercedes. it hasn't dropped at all since I was 17. motorcycle insurance though is only 96 a year for liability ha!

I'm 16 and I pay approx. 100$ a month on a 2003 Civic. 150$ a WEEK is almost impossible.
