first of all i searchbarred and googled but didn't help me

currently i have a white helmet and i want to paint it black. (see what i did there?)

did anyone have done this and had really bad experiences ? or maybe really good?

any suggestions about what paint i should use?

thanks!

I wouldnt advise spray painting it, as spray paint chips if not applied properly, and depending on the surface od your helmet, that would be really hard. I would imagine dying it would work better, but Ive never done that so I dont how to go about that process.

Never done it before, but watercolor will work best. But for real I've never heard of anyone who's done this, primer'll probably help.

My friend spray painted his lime green smith holt all black and put like 2-3 clear coats on it turned out super sick. he had some stickers on it and once he pulled them off after they made some really sick lime green dye cut marks.

I agree with 7springsprod. I would advise against painting/dying your helmet. Apart from the fact the paint will probably crack. You have no way of telling whether the paint or dye affects the integrity of the materials and so you do not know that it will give the same protection as before. There are just some things that shouldnt be fucked with unless you know what you're doing to them (i.e. bindings) if the colour of your helmet is really bothering you then buy another one. Personally i'd prefer to know my helmet is safe.

I painted my bike/easy park riding helmet from a candy red to a semi-matte white. I'm wearing it in my profile pic. It's a fiberglass shelled helmet so the paint will have no effect on the integrity of it, or the foam inside of it because it's a soft cored helmet (the spongy stuff, not the styrofoam stuff) If your helmet has a hard core to it, but a fiberglass shell, just mask the interior up REALLY well with masking tape or the solvents in the paint will eat the helmet's core. If the helmet's shell is made of anything other then fiberglass, like a thin micro-plastic shell (sort of like a road bike helmet, I think most of salomon's helmets are a good example of this) or a thick plastic shell then I'd really advise against it. The thick plastic is paintable but the solvents in the paint may eat at it. Hope that helps, take caution with this whole thing because your head probably isn't worth fucking up. Good luck!

its a red mutiny helmet, pretty thick plastic i guess.

never thought that paint would destroy the plastic, but ill just keep it like it is :)

thanks for all the advice!
