Pain behind the knee?

Hey guys, so this past month has been going great for me in terms of skiing. I have been able to go up about 7 times and I have enjoyed every single time of it. There is only one problem. About the second time up I have started feeling this strange pain right behind the joint of my knee. It almost feels like the tendons have been stretched or stressed extremely. I stretch daily and try my best not to worry about it. I have been charging hard the first day up, I have been learning new tricks and trying my best. But, I wonder if something went wrong when riding switch? Pain seems to hurt the most after landing switch and I am very nervous about landing now. I have heard things about DIN marks on skis that could affect joint and knee pains. Does anyone else out there seem to have the same problems with pain? I feel as if I might have torn something. I feel it the most when my legs are stretched out as far as they can go, or when I land a little backseat. My friend had also torn his ACL last year and before that all happened, he had pain in his leg which he iced off and seemed to be fine. Could this be leading to a torn ACL? +K for help and suggestions.

pretty sure i know exactly what you mean. i used to get it all the time, found out it was from hyperextending. you just have to take it easy and stretch it for a solid amount of time before doing physical shit. and im not sure if this leads to torn acls or not. hope this helps

Yeah man, exactly what he replied.

I've had this issue for two years now and i've learned to just live with it - it won't go away for me, it's just kind of around all year...not just during the ski season.

Stretch it A LOT.

I got two cortazone shots in my knee in 3 months, which my doctor had recommended, and neither of them did anything. They are very painful IMO and they didn't do anything for me so i'd just say don't even bother - but they might help you out i don't know it could have just been me.

Hope i helped.

there's a good chance you pulled or injured something, so you might need to give it some rest, but definitely get checked out. it's also possible, maybe you're not stretching something else fully, which may be causing the pain in your knee. there could be a ton of reasons.

I had the same thing during football and I was told it was a hamstring or part ofthe meniscus. Get it checked out and it most likely won't prevent you from skiing

I think I got this in the beginning of last year, stretch a lot before hand, and take it easy. Take a day off of switch stuff to let it heal a little more. Injuries like that aren't something to play around with.

shut up thomas. its worse than you think. you're not helping either. i have seen you ski so you probably dont know what this feels like.

i tore my mcl, and the worst pain is when you stretch your leg out and land back seat.
bending the knee doesnt hurt because the meniscus isnt touching bone at that point.

i tore my acl and there was some pain before i did it, the best thing you can do is stretch and maybe get it checked by a physiotherapist or something. The other thing is go to the gym and work on strengthening hamstrings, quads and all the muscles that support the knee as that is the best prevention. My whole physio routine involves squats jumping, bikes and overall strength training to prevent reinjury. Hopefully you won't run into acl/ knee trouble because it blows and is definately a game changer

i now hoave a pretty good knowledge on this stuff since i tore my ACL and blew it out again. If I were you I'd get an MRI and have an ortho look at it. It could save your knees. maybe invest in a brace?

ICE ice ICE ice ice ice, ICE your knee it will do wonders! ice it atleast once a day. that will help. and talk to a dr. if the pain doesnt go away or gets unbearable

I got this from playing soccer not sure it's the same thing. But i went to the physical therapist and he said it was a small connecting tendon/muscle (not sure which) but it connects your calf muscles to your hamstring muscles. Try the stretch were lay on your back and put your leg up on the wall and push down with your heel for 5 seconds on the 5 seconds of for 30 seconds then hold for anywhere from 45 to 60 seconds. I have more if you want it. Icing doesn't help after the initial injury occurs. Icing only helps within the first 48 hours or so. The best thing you can do is stay of it for a little and stretch and strengthen that muscle area. Maybe some heating with some sort of heat pad.

I did something skiing so now the tendon just above my knee hurts like a bitch and my thigh muscles sieze up. It heals with RICE rest ice compresson an elevation

also my calf muscle will sometimes gradually get tight when i have been sitting down and if i dont catch it part way threw and stretch my foot gets stuck pointed out for like 5 minutes and my calf muscle is pretty unresponsive. anybody get this too?
