Pain - am I fucking myself up?

I had a few big overshoots a couple days ago. The last one was a huge 3 I took straight to flat and on top of it landed backseat. Felt about as good as you would expect. Could barely stand for a few minutes. Kept skiing and pain subsided. Took next day off, consistent pain in both lower legs not like regular shin bang but up the side (outer side) of shin from just above the ankle about halfway up to the knee, and kind of deep, like it’s coming from almost between the leg bones.

today I did mostly rails few jumps, right ankle hurt so bad my leg was shaking when I put weight on it. Kinda pushed thru, tongue pressure and nose press wasn’t bad but couldn’t lean back at all, tried a tailpress and damn shit myself from the pain.

gonna take a few days off. Anybody have similar experience? Want to push thru but also not be crippled by age 21.

tl;dr big overshoot, major pain in ankles and up side of lower legs abt halfway to knee (deep inside), can’t tailpress.

Lol I hairline fractured my fibula last season and I felt the exact same shaking sensation you described when I tried to put weight on it.

Clearly you've got it a lil bit better cause you could push through it, but either way I'd get it checked out brah.

been there done that, youre fine. take it easy for a week or two and only land switch for the next month and youll be back

Do you have insurance? If you do, go to the doctor. If you have to ask a bunch of randos on the internet if you hurt yourself, you probably did. You should get it checked out by a professional

I ain’t going to the doctor unless I’m sure something is actually broken ???

ankles are broke, sell ur stuff on snowshare and pick up chess

Dude I will have my ankles fully fused together with plates and screws before I stop skiing

Yeh, not worth fucking yourself over, trust me. I'm in my late 20's and already feeling the knee, hip, foot, and neck mainly when hiking, biking, snowshoeing etc... Hopefully stem sell injections will be cheaper in the future!!!!

I’d imagine getting ur back blown out by skiierman is a high impact activity.

in all seriousness tho were there specific injuries that you remember, or pain that you pushed through? Or should I just accept there’s no way to avoid eventual chronic joint pain (stopping skiing skating and lifting is absolutely not an option for me I’d go insane)

on the upside I talked to this dude in his 60s who had both knees replaced and he said now they feel like they did when he was 18. Should I just preemptively get all metal joints installed in me?

LOOOL dude, I'm not even allowed to publish all the gnarly shit that I've endured during the high impact activity of trying to fuck a ginger.. however, I know that not skiing is not an option (it isn't for me either), it's just an unrealistic thing, I still skateboard, bike, backpack etc... I just have to stay more active than before and do some PT to alleviate chronic pain.

I wouldn't worry about what you may have to do in the future to be comfortable, I'd just give the "going all out" attitude a second through. The minimum thing you can do is still have fun, but in a more progressive or smart way rather than just trying to impress friends or push through pain. Listing to your body is important. The way I think of it now is this way... I'd rather ski rails (which I looove to do) occasionally vs. consistently just to be able to downhill bike, backpack, skateboard etc... the rest of the year for the rest of my life, than push through pain skiing and potentially not be able to enjoy other activities in life... like even playing with my own kids in the future.

Dammit you made me post something serious for once since changing my username, DAMN YOU!

Oh and regarding specific injuries... The hip is from my 1st time hitting a tube, got it right the first time, then fucked my hip up the 2nd time, I remember not being able to walk too well for a week and still hitting up snowbird for a sweet 6 hr pow day on invaders. The knee... just casing jumps, tweaking it while trying new rails etc... I did blew out my knee once... The neck... yeah there was a specific moment I ate shit on a rail and then couldn't move it the next day.

You get used to your body, so it's not horrendous, it only sucks sometimes and I wish more kids considered shit longterm.

I have/had a similar pain but I don’t think it was from an impact. I went to a PT for it and I did only one thing but it helped massively. Have a band around the outside of your foot and then push your foot sideways in a kind of “windshield wiper” motion. Go slow both forward and back, do this for 5 minutes each foot and it makes a world of difference. For refrence, I could ski for 1 day and then I’d be out for a month before my leg had “healed”.

Yea for sure it’s hard not to be skiing for a few days in the middle/end of the season when you’re on top of your game and progressing, but probably worth to maybe add a few more good years on the backend

thanks for the suggestion do a similar thing where I plant one foot on a hardwood floor and twist the whole body back and forth around it to stretch out ankle hip and knee same thing basically but the foot stays sill and the whole body moves

I’m using this old ass electric blanket and giving each leg a few hours each day. Apparently heating increases blood flow and healing. Hopefully it doesn’t catch fire while I’m sleeping cause it’s from the literal 1960s

My great-grandma died in the 1980s because her house burned down from one of those old heated blankets

I do this as well. Helps a ton even with just tired legs after a hard day.

Also do hot cold cycles. Switch between heat and ice. Pull the blood in then force it out quick. repeat a couple times. Ive had good outcomes with this
