Yeah, out of all 4 of the cottonwood canyon resorts, only Snowbird get real props from me. They released a new app to push for carpooling and using public transportation by giving people incentives. No stick, just a carrot, they led the way and are the only ones who can actually claim to care about congestion and the environment. They did something and spent their $$ before anyone else trying to fix it.
Solitude is simply money grabbing, other ways to go about that problem than nickel and dime customers. They also announced it in September when most people have already purchased their season pass. Not cool, they suck.
Brighton did something better with restricted parking, but fucked up the implementation. They started their program before anything was put in place to actually facilitate carpooling. They released their apps a few weeks later, could have waited a bit until the app was ready imo. Plus we can thank Snowbird since they simply duplicated their app and put their logo on it, without Snowbird Brighton wouldn't even have an app. Pushing for carpooling is great, but it's on them to make it easy for their customers to do so, especially when again, you announce it once people already have purchases their season passes. And they only announced it on the gram, a lot of people were pissed to find out once up there. Not that hard to send an email communication out to your season pass holders, you idiots.
Then Alta also duplicated snowbirds app, good on them for doing that. But between their dumbass no snowboard policy and them trying to close Grizzly gulch, they're still clowns, and it's hard for me to compliment them. Probably my fav terrain though, I wish they weren't such big assholes.
If this season is any indicator, we can see that none of that really made a dent in the problem anyway, it's still congested every weekend, parkings are still full and people are turned around.
In closing, they're all trying something, so I guess it's better than doing nothing, but they need to do better. One easy thing for example would be better communication around parking availability. Not hard to put up a webpage with parking avail and estimated time before its full based on traffic up the canyon. Because spending an hour in the canyon only to see one dude with a "parking full" cardboard upon arriving and be turned around is super frustrating, at least fixing that type of issue could alleviate some of the frustration, low hanging fruit.
