Overcoming fear

What’s the preferred method? Yelling really loud works well but can be obnoxious. Smacking your poles together works well too.

All "jokes" aside just got to not think about the risk blast tf outta your eardrums with some youngboy and have like a couple people cheering on the knuckle sometimes its dangerous but its worth it

The increase of ability and flow after a shot and beer this weekend was shocking

I lost a bet and had to shotgun a beer of my friend's choice at the top of lenawee first thing in the AM and a tallboy lowkey loosened me up so good that it's become a ritual since lol

I have to get warmed up first or else I feel like my heart is going to explode. But if I get warmed up and have a nice high gravity ipa… oh boy. Nothing can stop me

lmao

I dont overcome it and just end up not commiting to whatever i am doing a bunch of times and never really progress.

i give it a hand smack with the poles in hand and then do two taps but swap what pole goes in front so it’s like a lil criss cross thingy

idk but shit works

Tbh just going for it. Evaluate the risk and then just go for it, assuming your skills allow you to be in that setting. No one progresses without stepping out their comfort zone. Then each subsequent time or similarly difficult terrain will seem that much easier. I'm nowhere near as good a skier as many people on this site but I made a ton of progression the past few years, especially last year. Looking at pics of routes I took gives me anxiety lol but I'm comfortable in the moment knowing I can always stop and compose myself if need be, and recovery skills + fundamentals make skiing sketchier shit less nerve-wracking.

Maybe you're referring to the park but some of the concepts still apply.

I like to do a couple barks and drop as quickly as possible and I guess really just don't think of it at all. Say your trying a backflip for the first time just think of what to do but block out/zone out once you feel any kind of negativity or nervousness you get.

Real Talk: You need to find what works for you to get in the zone and feel comfortable with the fear, this is different for everyone.

For me, It's important that I feel well prepared, rested, and relaxed, and even better with a good group skiing at a similar skill level. Feeling rushed or unprepared is what makes me bail out 9 times out of 10. Music, people watching, cameras being on, those don't really bother or help me either way.

You are probably different, what hurts or helps me may have no effect on you or vice versa. You just gotta take the time to learn how to manage what gets you in the ideal mental state to perform, thats when you will ski your best
