imagine a bubble that you start blowing and the second you started blowing, that was the big bang, and the universe keeps expanding in every direction like the bubble, but it wont pop but just keep growing for trillions of years till the energy produced by the big bang exhausts it self.

something along those lines
 
Current science reinforces this idea. The universe's expansion rate is actually accelerating, and will continue to do so (as far as we understand). People use to believe that the universe would eventually contract after all the energy had been expended, or at the point where i believe the strong nuclear force is the only force in action (something along those lines). It's crazy to fathom how insignificant we are in the whole scheme things. The arguments for parallel universes and multiverses make everything seem infinitely larger as well. It's also interesting to examine things at the opposite end of the scale, the smallest pieces of matter. Is string theory valid? What are the strings made of? If you go small enough will you eventually peer inside another universe? It could all be an endless loop, and somehow to me that makes the most sense. Can there really be an end and beginning?
 
Space is so massive, that it is considered infinite. The expansion of space is perceived by physicists to be expanding faster than the speed of light, so if you could even travel at the speed of light, (186,000 miles per second) you would never reach the edge of space, unless the expansion slowed down to speed zero. So thinking hat space is expanding faster than light, than the light, ot anything else for that matter would never reach the egde of space (if there is an edge) so in theory it is considered infinite.
 
Isn't there some notion that in order to travel to the next closest galaxy, you would have to use up all the energy in our own galaxy? Unless we can warp space, traveling faster than the speed of light in conventional terms is highly improbable. As you approach the speed of light you approach infinite mass, thus requiring infinite energy. Even in Star Trek, where they have warp drives, they never left the galaxy.
 
Fuck that makes me want to explore so bad. I wish I was born 700 years from now when we will have actually figured out how to get there...

I want to go to all of those places. And see mind blowing shit. And perhaps meet alien babes a la Avatar.

I feel the same way sometimes. But even though it doesn't seem as awesome, what we do right now, in this time period, will allow future generations to go beyond. What pisses me off is how little ambition Americans seen to have now. Back in the 50s and 60s we sent people to the moon, the gov't was pushing the limits of human technology and exploration. Millions of people watched the moon landing, astronauts were looked up to as heroes. I feel that we lost that spark, people are too concerned about their own well being and complain about spending money on space. Imagine if we all worked together, we could be on Mars right now, we could have bases on the moon. It's completely feasible. Unfortunately is seems that we are only pushed when we are deep in war. Look how much progress was made in WW2, in such a short span, fueled by a race with the Nazis, we split an atom and discovered the potential of nuclear energy.
 
Sometimes it's difficult to believe half the things people say about weed or skiing on this site. So what's your point? If you are intelligent enough, I think you can filter out what's fiction, and discuss whatever the fuck you want.
 
I hear you dude, it frustrates me often as well.

In my opinion we should forget about the Moon and especially Mars. Save our money in that respect.. there's nothing on Mars. I guess there's significance with the first landing on another planet and all, and we definitely need the practice, but I'd rather see the money go into deep space tech... I hate the thought of dying and not knowing what we'll find...

Selfish thoughts purely, of course.

i still venture into space form time to time, but I try and stay in orbit these days. No more trans galactic adventure for me. At least not many. I don't want to get stuck out there like some of the people. Lots of rainbow kids and perma spunions at the shows and festys.

the answer to space is... it's space. a lot of space. nothing but space. and really cold appently. i agreed with on e dude but who knows. idc what eve lol were all here and make the best of it before you die. find love, do a lot of stupid shit. and regret nothing. life is short, and space is cold. live on earth, in your mind, body and soul. and love. love till youre dead. and cold. like space.
