idk this will probably just get buried but I think enough mfs on this website have bought shitty cameras and can debate about them

pls say some hot takes so we can discuss
 
GL2 is an underrated and possibly overhated camera

SD stock footage generally looks more enjoyable than DSLR stock footage, which often looks boring unless the filmer knows what they're doing in regard to their colour settings, exposure, etc

GL2 is hated in the same way as the dvx, having “worse” colors and a “worse” mic. But honestly that shit doesn’t matter because it still looks charming and idc what elitist skateboarders think.

Alright so idk anything about camcorders.

just found this panasonic 3ccd that my dad used to use way back.

I think i may need to track down some new batteries for it, but would this get me good clips? Lens is in great shape and no signs of damage anywhere on it. Records on tape or SD card

SD card is probably for pictures only
 
Anybody know of a good dated servo cam that shoots on SD cards? Looking for a vibey vintage camera for b shots and don’t want to buy a capture camera.

had a hmc and absolutely not spending 1200 on another one

hvx200’s can go for under $300 sometimes, uses p2 cards which are early versions of SD cards. P2 cards are pretty expensive but are still cheaper overall than an hmc in general.

I’ve had an hvx in the past and honestly it was my least favorite camera I’ve ever owned, looks more towards handy cam style cameras but still want that mid 2000s look

hvx is literally from the mid 2000s if you want that “mid 2000s” look buy a vx1000

everyone always complaining bout tapes but honestly they are very little hassle

thank you. i think my camera is geeking out and gotta buy another on ebay, there was a 30 min window of one tape that just didn't record and was empty blue when i went to capture. i filmed a whole 200 minutes after that that was totally fine but lost some good stuff from what i remember happened during that tape.
 
i think part of why the shots look good is because i use mpeg streamclip to convert from .avi to prores422 .mov (prores so there is no compression) and deinterlace during the conversion. i think the deinterlace is huge for the look.

The AC30 can shoot 4:3 but it is cropped. Nice thing is you’d also get a HD servo cam outta it. Can find them used for alright deals sometimes. Still kinda pricy tho 700-800.
 
Anyone heard of the Sony pmw ex1? It’s Sonys version of an hmc150, but better on paper. Curious to see if anyones shot with them before on here, I just snagged one per recommendation of mcFalls
 
P2 colors can’t be matched but so many people are filming with a HVX or HOX it’s starting to get played imo. Some people really do it justice tho.
