Hey M&A... We have been working long and hard to make our movie "Count Me In!" I know there's a love/hate relationship with kendama on NS but I thought I would share it with you guys anyway and show you what we are all about!

So check it out and let me know what you think!

hahaha exactly what I was gonna say, not sure how kendama can be made into a movie. But hey I bet Warren Miller got questioned when he started shooting skiing.

It would be made into a movie just like any other ski and snowboard movie. As corny as it seems, our team has a pretty rich history in the "Kendama Community" It will be similar to a ski movie in the fact that it will have different segments and interviews.

Honestly I wouldn't be disappointing if someone who doesn't play kendama is bored by the movie. It would be the same with any other sport. People who play kendama and are familiar with the joy that comes from playing it will be glad to sit down and watch a well put together video about ball and a cup. Don't get me wrong, I would love for everyone to see it, but I won't be offended by the slightest bit if someone who doesn't play kendama is bored by it. It is really something more than just "ball and a cup" and we hope to showcase how truly different it is and how it can bring people together that would not other wise be friends.

Don't worry man I wasn't trying to offend you at all. I'd give it a watch if the cinematography is anything like the trailer.

But I enjoy all movies that showcase a hobby in all honesty.

I suck at skating, longboarding, blading, biking, and many other activities. But if it's a well shot movie, I enjoy the vibes. Even activities I don't take part in at all I watch, because the world's greatest filmers aren't all skiers you know?

Very true. Yeah, my bad, I know you didn't. I realized after posting that that it sounded like I was trying to defend my self. I was just trying to explain that a lot of people don't get. Its like any other sport. You can't describe how good it feels to land a trick to someone, they just have to try it for themselves. It applies to kendama just as much as it does skiing and any other sport, but even better because you don't get (too seriously) injured, Hah.

I totally agree with that second and third sentence. I honestly could've cared less about skating til I learned how to drop in this summer. I don't really throw much on snow because I've had too many concussions and now I film, but damn I remember learning 2 on's and literally having a smile on my face for the next few days.

So true dude. I love rails hah. But exactly, you have good days and you have bad days. Theres been a few days where we went out and filmed for hours and got nothing, and there has also been days where we worked for 3 hours on 1 trick and finally got it. Crazy stuff... If you want to stay updated on the release and what not, check out the page and like it! I just put in the FB page link in the description. I don't know why I didn't have it in there before...

Too bad wenatchee sucks...

but really, i grew up in leavenworth and my mom lives in east wenatchee now... shit sucks.

also you guys spend way too much time with kendama.

Otherwise, that trailer was awesome. Minus the song repeat, but im sure no one who cares about kendama knows about that song.

you used a song that has been used many times....same with your other edits. Be more original when choosing a song

Yeah I've heard the song used in something on m&a, but hey at least you didn't copy zac like the 50 other kids that did.

you guys rip for sure. not to hate, but this looked like a carbon copy of the kendama usa edits, and it'd be cool if you did something other than just scenic backgrounds and a kid playing kendama. just try and think outside the box

Yo Guys, you can buy them at a number of different places. We like to play with the brand oozora and you can buy them at http://www.kendama-co.com/store/ and http://www.kendama.bigcartel.com/.

Kelly- if you are referring to the KendamaUSA pro model edits, we started on this a month or two before they started filming it.... And also we have many other edits that are much more creative and I think we are thinking outside the box as far as making the first ever kendama movie...

k well you should learn to take constructive criticism cause that guy was right, doesnt matter who did it first. change it.

Yeah, its kind of like, unless you're someone really into Kendama, the variety of tricks won't matter to you, so i see what you're saying. But you gotta think, when people who aren't into skiing see a ski edit or movie, all they think is, geez, just more kids doing the same things over and over. We understand that, and so we're going to have interviews about Kendama and such, and some creative multi-person tricks (multiple people all interacting with the same kendama). And all the while it should be great cinemetography. It's like a ski movie, if your not into it, your not into it. But anyway, the end product will have plenty of creative stuff, this is just the trailer. Don't worry :D

exactly.

people say it's just doing the same thing with different backgrounds. but in a lot of ways, ski movies are just the same thing in different places. only difference is that skiing interacts with the environment more. but to people who don't ski, just seems like basically the same stuff over and over.

im hoping that the movie focuses not so much on tricks, but maybe more on what kendama is, how it brings people together, etc.

Trust me when I say im into kendama, ive been playing since my senior year of high school, and I'm stoked on what you're doing! I guess scenic backgrounds make the shots more pleasing, but I'd be even more stoked if you came up with something different. People have filmed themselves standing in front of cool things playing kendama ever since edit 7 two years ago.. That coupled with cheesy interviews just sounds like you're taking the easy way out. But I guess the first cinematic endeavor into any area is always a little weak..

Don't think of that as an insult, think of it as a challenge. But then again this is all just my opinion, if you're stoked on it and think its sick, do whatever you want. it's your project! pumped to see what you come up with!

Thanks for the input man.

I know that this summer I've had a ton of fun filming for this movie with my friends and such, so, some people will like it, some people won't. But I know I've had a lot of fun being a part of it, and I'm sure gonna have fun watching it when it's finished.

Anyway, give it a check when it's done, I have a feeling you might be pleasantly surprised.

all this song nazi-ism is really starting to get to me. i agree with everyone that it does take away from a video when the song been used before, but jesus christ you guys are getting relentless. Not everyone has seen every video on NS, so relax.

well, it's not like people assume skiers don't land the tricks in a trailer just because they don't show the landing.

Idk, to me it seems like the exact same thing. in a normal edit i would agree, but seeing as this is a trailer it changes a lot.

plus, considering it is the wenatchee kendama team, we can assume they landed all their tricks because they fucking kill it.

and skis are two planks attached to our feet, a skateboard is a piece of wood with four circles on the bottom.

just saying, just because you don't like it doesn't mean others don't. if you think people who don't ski don't get bored as fuck within 5 minutes of watching a ski movie then you're kidding yourself.

All he is saying is that people who don't ski don't enjoy ski movies, so you wouldnt enjoy a kendama movie since you don't play with a kendama.

i have sat down with friends and watched multiple ski movies back to back with them when none of them have ever skied. the difference is people are always willing to watch someone huck them self off a 100 ft cliff or slam their ribs into an urban rail. High chance of injury= excitement. And let's face it, no one is going to be paralyzed from playing kendama

For friends, yeah that's understandable. But I've been around adults watching ski movies and they can usually only watch a couple minutes before getting bored. Sure it's exciting watching pros take a risk, but to a lot of people it's still 'the same thing over and over.' You're also naming 1. a huge cliff drop and 2. a crash, two things that people enjoy watching. but show somebody who doesn't ski a superpark jump with dub after dub, and while they may think it's cool at first, it will all start to look the same and they will get bored eventually.

my point is, if you like kendama and can appreciate the uniqueness of the kendama community, you'll be into it. if you're not that into kendama/not into kendama whatsoever, you won't get it.

Lot of stupid stuff being said in this thread. So if you were making a kendama edit what would you do to 'think outside the box' Its easy to criticize someones work but your not giving any examples on what they could be doing so differently. Could you make something better? and if so, how?

I for one have never used a kendama, or seen much of it at all, but the cinematography is sick and I was very interested in what they were doing and it entertained me quite well.

First off, i'm not going to give specific examples simply because you can't give an artist directions, you can only give them suggestions that may or may not lead them in different directions.

Now if you have seen any of the kendama usa edits, specifically colin sander's edit 7, and the new pro models edit you may understand what i'm saying a little better. The more i've watched this trailer the more stoked i've gotten on it, and i think the outcome will be really sick. But at first I didn't really like it just because several of the shots were almost identical to shots in the edits i've mentioned. Specifically the shot when the kid was in the asian garden, and the shot on the rooftop. Both have been done, and it was like watching the same trick on the same rail to put it in skier terms.

But like i said, i'm stoked on this, can't wait to see it!

so best way to start is get the ball on the big cup with the hole facing toward you, then toss the ball up without spinning it and put the spike in the hole. remeber to bend your knees

Yeah that's what I started doing. Now how do I go pro by holding the ball? Or what's the next progression?

if your going to hold the ball the best thing to start with is swinging the ken (handle part) up and having the tip go in the hole. best way to do this is to swing it to about 9 o clock and the ken will spin its self the rest of the way. really watch the tip and move the hole to catch the ball.
