Osgood Schlatters

Have any of you had it before?

I've had this enormous leg brace the goes from the top of my thigh to half way down my calf for 2+ months and my knee is almost completely healed. The problem is, the last 2 weeks I feel as if there is no progress. My knee just stopped healing. Do any of you have any suggestions I really want to ski this year. I want to stay away from jumps this year and focus on jibs so my it doesn't come back. Is that a good decision?

Any suggestions and support would be awesome. Thanks!

Go to a doctor and/or Physiotherapy.

I mean i could be wrong, but im 12 and I'm an expert on the condition.

Did you have to get surgery for it? My brother and I both have the disorder, but I use the small "brace"/wrap right under my kneecap to hold the muscle in place, not a full leg brace.

I've had osgood schlatters since i was 13 (24 now), the doc said it would only go away if i stopped doing sports for 6-12 months. I was really into rugby though throughout highschool so i just kept playing and iced it when it got bad. I remember it would flare up really bad sometimes when i was 14-15 and i would maybe have to miss a game. Just ice it and elevate your knee, above your heart, after skiing if it's hurting and it should be good to go the next day.

Haven't experienced any symptoms for a good few years now. I wouldn't say it ever held me back either so if you keep on top of things you should be fine. You'll learn your limitations and when to go easy, for example, hit some jumps this season and then see how your knee feels at night. If it's hurting then rest up and don't hit jumps till your feeling good again

I had that as well as some patellae-r tracking problem which caused pain when I transitioned from squat stance to a more extended one when boarding, which you do almost every 5 seconds

I went to a physio-hoosa-whats-it and they sent me to PT, which didn't really help, other than advising me to stretch my IT band and exercise my legs as much as I can.

I've since concluded it stemmed from a lack of leg exercise and stretching in the off season, as well as a bad binding mount (I'm a snowboarder, this doesn't apply to you) vis-a-vis poor angles outward, and how that correlates to forcing me to squat a certain way.

Basically, I started lifting (squats help this, like a lot) and stretching regularly and it's improved now, but mine was never bad enough to have to wear a hard brace. I always just wore a tight knee sleeve to help it track.

I don't know if this helps you.

Oh, smoke weed/take oxy (don't snort or extract the APAP, this if for pain relief, not fun) or advil for the pain.

pretty much what i was going to suggest.

i have it as well and i stopped doing high intensity sports like basketball and minimize running and have noticed an improvement in my knee. less flare ups and when they do happen its minimal pain/annoyance.

one thing you can do as well, is to strengthen the muscle around the knee by doing light squats, calf raises, and some resistance work outs. they have helped me out quite a bit, but i cant emphasize enough to do light weight, even starting with just body weight squats is a good start then work up to the bar with 15s on each side. i do that with overhead squats to get a core workout and less stress on my back.

I've been snorting oxy (oxycodone not percocet) and it helps a lot.

When I smoke weed I can't do shit lol I keep giggling when I ski so I don't smoke often.

I snort coke occasionally too but I don't really like coke it makes me violent and cocky as fuck when I ski.

And of course the occasional advil.

Okay ... I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt and then I read this.

Your username sucks. And no one wanted to know your recreational drug history. Take prescribed medicine as prescribed and do the fucking exercises they've given you. Knee shit is all about strengthening the muscles around it that give it support... Snorting opiates will mask any serious symptoms and it doesn't make you cool.

I had it through highschool. Soccer was brutal, had to wear a knee brace on my right knee half the time i played. Youll grow out of it though.

I went to physical therapy for mine, which didn't really help at all. After a few years I just grew out of it. Haven't had problems with is since.

My brother had that, he just wore a small tensor and went easy on his knees when possible. I think he grew out of it, but he still has the bumps on his knees

I have osgoods and I'm my opinion the best thing for it is adville, i take three advilles every morning Im going skiing, also you can hit jump just be sure not to let your knee bend past your foot it can hurt a lot but if you just simp the landing it won't hurt very much
