OS X Tiger Install Help

Ok, so I'm new to Macs and I just got a Macbook Pro 17". The only problem is I bought it used and it didn't come with the OS X install discs. I want to start with a fresh system and I'm not sure how to do it. I'm working on downloading the install discs off the pirate bay, but I want to make sure that the install is legit and will activate properly. Is there anything I have to do to make sure it works properly. Thanks in advance for the help.
 
restore CDs are model specific because of the intel processors. contact apple and they'll send you restore cds for like $20. if you have an apple store nearby they would probably do it quicker. ...and PM me for an invite into the appleheads cult
 
When you say model specific, do you mean that each install disc is tied to that single laptop? Or just the entire model line? If its the latter, can't I just get the correct DVD, burn it, install it and go? Or will there be activation issues?
