Opinions on Rossignol S6 Jib (2011)/ Sickle (2012)

So, here's the situation -- I found a pretty good deal on a pair of new S6 Jibs. I'm 6"/150lbs and they have 186s, which measure more like 182s from the looks of things. I'm in Ontario, so what has kept me from expanding my quiver to a pair of 100mm+ skis has been that I really don't want to spend $700 on a pair of sticks that will only get used on trips that happen once or twice a season, or days when I feel like dorking around on a fat ski at some flat resort. But, these are coming in at under $250, and I think I can scrounge up an appropriate pair of bindings without breaking my budget on ski gear.

In any case, they'd probably end up being put to use for east coast tree skiing more than anything else so if you used S6 jibs or Sickles for this kind of skiing, feedback would be appreciated. If not, and you liked them or hated them in some other context, let me know. The Blister Gear Review seemed to pretty impressed with them for variable conditions, (http://www.blistergearreview.com/gear-reviews/review-2011-2012-rossignol-sickle-2010-2011-rossignol-s6-186cm) so I have to say I am sorely tempted.

Also, I vaguely recall some weirdness over the rocker -- its supposed to be really minimal on these sticks, but even then Rossi admited to screwing up a bunch which seemed to be cambered. I get the feeling this might be too good of a deal to be worth it, and these will turn out to be from the bad batch in the end. If so, I wont go for it, but any thoughts?

I have this years Sickles and love mine. The rocker is definitely full rocker, fairly low rise throughout. It makes them super playful and fun in any soft snow, but when you get them on edge they really can rail. I was shocked how well they held up on firm and even icy conditions for the type of ski and the rocker profile that it has. In trees or tighter areas, they are super easy to turn thanks to the full rocker. At that price I'd get them regardless, they are super solid and fun basically anywhere you take them.

If you want some rocker pictures or got any others questions about them feel free to PM me.

Alright, I couldn't resist the deal. Rocker seems pretty flat, but not the mustache camber TGR was reporting. Next step is figuring out bindings and a mount. Obvious choice is an FKS 14 XXL or a Pivot 14. STH 14 Driver might be worth considering too, or jesters, since I probably won't need more than 11 din ever given weight/height/boot sole ratio. Cost will be the main factor -- so if you have horror stories about any of the bindings listed above, it'd be nice to know.

Went with 186s, and I imagine I could do fine with +3/+5 of recommended. The plan is to have a jibby ski, with some float for trips out west, maybe Gaspe, or lucky days in the east.

I have the 2013 sickles with fks 14XXLS... this is by far my favorite set up ever, it's incredible how versatile this ski is for being 110 underfoot.

One benefit of rossi bindings on a rossi ski is a one year warranty extension.

Also, I should add -- I am leaving myself din room in case I put on some weight. I have been a skinny dude for a while. I cant see it lasting indefinitely, haha.

pretty much the same as what he said. i have the 186s and they are mounted +5 and ski like a 90mm waist ski with griffons on them. i thought 186 would be long but they definitely feel no longer than my s4s

Thanks guys! It was useful advice!

Speaking of lucky days in the east, I bought 186s and had them mounted (+2.5cm of recommended) this week. Friday, I took them storm skiing and had a good time, despite the lack of steep runs. Nice and stable. Float was great, wasn't too much work to push them into narrower turns. Not super lively, but definitely felt like I can trust the skis when things get in tight in the woods. Just need to figure out how to balance through smooth 360 butters in pow and I'll be laughing. Well, I was laughing when I took a few dives too.

I'm looking forward to getting them on something steeper. I might also take them out on hardpack or slush depending on the conditions next week just to get a feel for edge to edge. Definitely glad I got them though.
