Opinions on 16mm

Because im board, why not

I think 16 mm look pretty sick in some cases. But the money that goes into the film and the camera sucks a lot of money. When 16mm filmers are gunna film, The dont really do anything outrageous and ground breaking because they are doing more angles....that are safe, original and what will look alright, so if the shot is bad they are not losing a lot of money.

I do think it looks like more of a "cookie cutter" film (as jhon symms says in Versys) I enjoy watching digi movies wayyy more.

But in some instences, 16mm looks dope, but for the money it costs, id way rather watch a digi movie. Overall i just kinda get bored.

I like what josh berman did with S6. I cant wait to see how it will turn out.

What do you guys think about it?

Ninjas use all sorts of crap to kill themselves—guns, ropes, knives, lasers, spears, etc.—and don’t even think twice about it. These guys would kill themselves for just about any reason and often for no reason at all: that’s why we there are so few ninjas today. "

i kinda like digital more like what L1P has got setup, but hey the 16mm looks pretty sick at times 2

how is this even an argument, this is like saying "all right we got these two ways of filming, one is obviously better looking than the other, but lets argue over which one is best"

16mm for sure costs alot of money, but the shots are so much more asthetically pleasing and smooth to watch.

I understand what your saying about the lack of any risky shots because they're afraid of missing the shot entirely, but you shouldnt bag on the type of film, just the photographer

^You need to stop watching digi movies made by 13 year olds and start watching movies made by people that employ GOOD digi cams, good editing techniques, good colour correction, blah blah blah the list goes on.

The internet is for slandering others anonymously.

the 16mm look can never be replicated, makes everything look so smooth and perfect, without all the lines of minidv. But it isn't practical for shooting rails or lines where it takes multiplbe times to get the shot down, unless you have a million dollar buget. I agree though, I wana see filmmakers become less conservitive when they use 16mm by using wideangles, fisheyes, flow cams and other shots you don;t see a lot.

Like when seth backflips those huge fucking cliffs, MSP always films it from super far away in a helicopter. that gets boring after a while, they need to get down BELOW the cliff and film from there to show really how big it is

yeah there could definitely be some more creaticity in the angles, but nothing can beat the look of real film.

I prefer digital to 16mm, but it has to be very well done or else it looks sketchy.

as of now i like 16 mill better..but becasue sony has come out with an HD digi cam my feelings might change..and after seeing the trailer to bbermans new vid i have a feeling my feelings will def change...ill just have to wait untill after i see shanghai six to state if i ahve ofiicically moved over to digi...

i like skiing

by the way bitches, its the cinematographer that makes the shot, just as much if not more than the equipment. You could give some hack like Francine or Anonthy Baco a 35mm camera and the crew to run it for them, and they still couldn't get a good shot out of it. On the other hand, send some with the skillz out with a Super8mm and they'll get shit done.

As far as "risk taking" and its association with shot creativity in proportion to expenses, fuck that! If you're shooting 16 you got the money to shoot it any way you want... the greater risk of fucking up the shot the one time something is stomped is there whether your're shooting Super16 or Hi8.

no im just saying, you NEVER see big mountain up close thats one of the reasons i dont like watching it cause it gets bored so quick

if youve ever talked to beramn, youd be amazed. the camera he films with is just so rediculously sick. and word is he is thinkin bout goin high def. at that level, digi is on par or better than 16 mm. 16 mm is just a waste of moeny, plus, all the shots are set up, no real random stuff there, and thats the stuff that usually make a movie.

i looked on google but all i could find was 3D Animation porn-sxmarty6

people shoot the same way they would shoot with 16 as they would digi... they find a good angle they shoot it... so really 16 is the better choice if you got the backing.

The filmers are not worried, becuase they are experienced filmers.

if you cant afford 16 ofcourse your gonna like digi more, just cus you cant have 16.. its the old i cant have it, but i want, they got it, so i hate it ... type deall if ya get me.

Swaggler, you like 16mm? I thought your weapon of choice was sticky sticks.

I dont know. When I watch a movie I look for the skiing and angles and editing job. Not really what camera is being used. If you think about it its an art to use a 16mm because you have to devlope the film and its much harder to edit. But then again so is using a digi becaouse its easier to edit but you can get real gnarly with those jobs.
