Opinions / experiences with the Volkl Two?

I've been eyeing this ski since Volkl released it. Not a ton of reviews on it but the specs look nice. Things that are exciting to me are the huge turning radius. I dislike the short, hooky sidecuts which I always get stuck with because I'm small and I have to buy the shorter sizes. The fact that it comes in a 176 which some of the nicer men's pow skis don't (I'm sad that the k2 powabunga only comes in a 184 which is too huge for me). The tip taper is completely unique, it's not "true taper" it's more straight at the tips, which means you might actually get some usefulness out of the tips with the ski on edge.

I was planning on most likely buying a pair this summer or spring when stuff gets cheaper, but some east coast store had a crazy sale over the weekend (selling via ebay) and I was able to grab last years brand new with tryolia aaattack 13's for a little over $300 and free shipping. Haven't tried tryolia bindings before either, so I'm interested to see how they compare to other bindings I've used (griffons, fks, sth, px12). I'm now patiently awaiting their arrival, east coast shop says they just finished mounting.

Anyone here own or demoed the Volkl Two, if so how do you like it?

Pretty useless unless you're in deep.

Go for volkl ones if you're smaller, extra width is unesscesssary. Still, the ski itself did not impress as compared to other similar width surfy pow skis (bents, jjs).

Just not versatile, however if you only ever ski perfect conditions I'd say it would be a good choice.

Overall fun ski in the pow. I'm sure people will disagree but I just found the profile was not fun when the going gets bumpy or extra choppy.

I skied it in japow numerous times this season because it is in our rental fleet.

I can't really speak for the skis cause I have only handled them in a shop not on the slopes but as for the tyrolia attack bindings they are a very good binding that you will have not problem with. Seem to be pretty under rated but I would have no fear clipping into those everyday of the season. Overall high quality product with a very good price I think you scored a pretty good deal seeing as the bindings retail for about half of what you paid total.

I owned a pair of Volkl Twos and for a powder ski they where exactly what I was after.

I have not made a review for them yet but I guess I can make one here.

A bit about me. 6'5" 180. I rode the 186 with fks 180s mounted at -5cm back from center.

I took these with me when I went to Japan and as you can imagine it was stupid fun. Skis I have skied are just about every mens powder/ all mountain ski from Rossignol, Dynastar, Nordica, Blizzard, Fischer, Volkl, Line and a few ON3P skis here and there.

The flex of the ski is great. The tip and tail are softer which allowed for a easier turn initiation while under foot the ski is solid. This meant that when you come out of a big cliff you wouldn't wheelie out or get bucked back seat. When I say the tip and tail are softer I mean they are soft for a Volkl ski.

The shape of the ski is almost like a mix between a older EP pro and a Petitor. There is a bit of tip and tail tapper but its not supper exaggerated like on a JJ or Soul 7. This was nice because it meant that the effective edge on my 186 was maybe 176-180 instead of 160-170 like on a JJ. This meant I could still run with 186cm skis instead of going up to a 196 or what ever the next size up was.

Due to the nature of the shape I found them to be very quick edge to edge for a 122mm wait ski. This meant that taking them to the resort to ski crud or slush or groomers was a non issue. The flex profile and shape provide for a relatively versatile 122 waist ski. Of course it is not going to be ideal for every day use but if you live some where with a fare bit of soft snow it will be a ton of fun most days.

The rocker profile of the ski takes a bit to get used to. I was always used to skiing a camber ski with a bit of tip and tail rocker so going to a completely full rocker ski was different. The nice thing about the rocker shape is that the ski is essentially always in a flexed position. This means that as soon as you roll the ski on edge the whole ski will hookup and help to initiate and finish the turn. This coupled with the tip and tail "tapper" make for a very easy and forgiving ski to ride that can still be charged on.

The only area where I personally struggled with this ski was when everything got really tracked and and crusty and hard. I found the ski to get deflected around quite a bit and it felt like the ski had a hard time tracking through its turns. I believe this is because of its 122 footprint and me not being the heavyset/ strongest person.

Overall if I was looking for a fat mostly powder ski that could handle all mountain I would recommend it but if you are looking for a all mountain ski that can handle a bit of powder I would look at the one.

Also shameless self promotion

Holy shit this ski is everything I hoped for and more. I got to test them out yesterday on a 6 inch pow day. Light dry pow on top of boilerplate crud, thanks to the rain received Friday that soaked in and froze. Even though it looked like pow everywhere, you could "hear" people skiing in the distance, yep that kind of day.

Despite the terrible conditions, the Two's were amazing, they made me feel like a better skier than I am. Confidence inspiring is the best way I can describe them. It's like the Hellbent and Gotama had a child. The surfiness was great, but when I'd bounce off the crusty bullshit just underneath the ski felt solid like my Goats, not in danger of wheelie-ing out like the Hellbent would in those conditions.

This ski wants to blast long arcs, and seems to have a huge sweet spot. I could ski it centered or I could drive from the tips, depending on my mood. The taper in the tips plus the long sidecut made it so I never felt the ski overhook, a problem I would normally have on most skis with the refrozen chop. I could also slam on the brakes if I needed to and not feel like I was going to get bucked, or hook a tip or tail. This was especially useful in the trees, which were extra crusty.

I found that they excel in the chop and crud, especially when using my preferred method of skiing through bad sections: just go straight. No pitching or yawing, they even let me recover easily if I got into the backseat. The worst they performed was on a slope that had perfectly smooth large ice moguls underneath, I couldn't see them due to the layer of pow, and the twos wanted to launch off each one I hit unexpectedly. That was a really weird slope though, and I can't imagine what ski would have done any better on it.

They take flight quite well, much lighter than some of my other pow skis, and that stiff underfoot zone makes you feel very solid on launches and landings, however you still have somewhat floppy tips to pop you over the random log or ditch. I was taking airs off stuff I haven't before just because I knew the Two's would ride out the choppy landings without a hitch.

Here's a clip;http://gfycat.com/BrokenKlutzyAxisdeer We had some brief sun for the first hour of the day before the clouds rolled in and it started dumping. Too bad that snow once again turned to rain overnight. That first slope stayed almost untouched for most of the day because people couldn't handle the icy crud layer, you can see my skis chattering off it.

The Volkl Two might be my new favorite ski. There are very few skis that I've gotten on where everything just instantly clicks and the ski responds exactly like I want. I can see why it's been such a favorite in the freeride comps.

Additional specs: I'm 5'2 130lbs and I'm skiing the 176 Two's mounted at +1

Looks like the place I picked my Two's up from is trying to dump some more of them, $250 without bindings or $350 with attack 13's:
http://www.skiessentials.com/nsearch?q=powderad

One's, Two's, or nordica bushy waynes for about the same price through the end of today.

I’m 5/7? 140lbs expert skier, the largest ski I have skied is the SFB 184 length which is actually a 181. Should I get the 186 or 176??

Looking at vokl one. I'm 5'1 105 pounds. You think 166 is to much ski?

I don't know what I was thinking, 166 will be perfect. Pulled the trigger on a pair.

Yeah the 166 is perfect. I can't believe the deals this site has! If your growing fast maybe the 176 but for now I would go with the former

Super stoked for you! Company has legit shipping too, mine came completely covered in large bubblewrap and extra cardboard, and a hand signed thankyou note from the seller. Really good customer service, prompt response with regard to +1 mount request as well. Other times I've bought skis online and they've been shipped inside a box without any protection aside from some cardboard over the tips.

Awesome to here. Can’t wait to try them out. I should of got the bindings as well but oh well ill take them off my dying set of recoils

I picked up pair of the Volkl One skis at SkiEssentials.com for 315 dollars with the Tyrolia Attack bindings (350 minus 10% off with free shipping) before my trip to Steamboat this year. We only had one day of minimal powder the week I was there so I only used them that one day. It was my best day of the week with only 4 inches of fresh snow. I loved the One's in the powder and later on in the day in the crud. The One's were also great in the bumps. I have not had that much fun bump skiing since the 1980's. So I just bought a pair of the Volkl Two skis from the same place for 20% off plus more off from their loyalty program. Total price with the bindings mounted was only 268 dollars with free shipping. Hard to pass up that price for such great skis.
