Saw this flaoting around the internet today. As of Monday it will be the tallest building in NY. Its finally getting there after years of delays and bureaucracy between the state and city governments.

 
i was in nyc when the buildings went down and i am glad after all this time we built a bigger one suck it terrorists.

The 104-story supertall skyscraper is being constructed in the northwest corner of the 16-acre World Trade Center site, occupying the location where the original 8-story 6 World Trade Center once stood.
 
Awesome. I have wanted to go see the memorial since they opened it. Add this building to the list of places to go.
 
So what's with the mosque deal, did it die down or still happening?

I think the building actually looks much better in reality than in concepts, which is a great achievement.
 
its already huge- and the rest of the building are going to be massive this time as well

gotta say this is beautiful, even as a canadian this for me somehow signifies the reincarnation of the building, like a sort of final fuck you to the people responsible for the attacks. i disagree with so much of the way you americans reacted to the 9/11 attacks, but this is a very fresh change. good job.
 
The guy who wanted to build the mosque, Sharif-El-Gamal, has no money. He is a real estate developer here in the city and has been having a tough time holding onto some of his buildings. The site (Park 51) being one of those sites. He has put out bids to raise equity to get it built but no one is stepping up. It will most likely end up being a general community center and not a Mosque.

And the building actually looks great in person. The whole WTC site is really something cool to see.
 
that seems to be the case with most buildings. it seems to take forever for the hole to get dug and all the foundation stuff to be put in place then soon as that's done the rest just springs right up.

If we are to live in fear of an attack how can we progress as a society, limit ourselves to dreaming small- the responses for hijacking are different now, the cockpit locked, plus passengers arent going to sit idly when someone makes a move,

fuck terrorists- their goal is to scare and intimidate- by rebuilding bigger and stronger it shows pride and unwillingness to succumb

They can pour concrete at a rate of one floor a week. Approximately. So once they fixed the subway stations and poured the foundations it goes up pretty quick. After they pour the top floor it will only be a few more weeks until the glass curtain wall is fully installed.
 
plus the easiest way to do damage to NYC isn't to fly planes into it, it's to take a big freighter packed to the brim full of explosives and drive it straight into the city and BOOM. Think of Hiroshima, then think of how much more powerful explosive devices are today, then think of how many people are in NYC. That would be the most devastating single attack in the history of history. And how many freighters enter NYC on a daily basis? It would be completely undetectable until it's too late.

But no one is a sick enough fuck to do that. And even if there is ONE person who would, who the hell would help them out. I have enough faith in humanity.
 
I honestly think this is the biggest difference in why United 93 was taken down. The passengers had gotten wind somehow of what was going on. They realized it was not just a hijacking and they did what needed to be done. Before 9/11 who the fuck thought people would steal a passenger aircraft and crash it into a building.
 
Not much of a bigger FUCK YOU than a "we just built buildings taller than the ones you knocked down and, if you try to fly a plane into this one, the plane loses." The support structure for that thing (the core of the building) is world record setting. Google it...
 
Crazy how fast it's going up. I was there last summer and it couldn't have been half as tall. Word!
 
heard of it, never seen/read it. I know it's Tom Clancy so probably has to do with Russians doing something similar?
 
they're was actually a threat about a nuclear bomb in the new york piers back in may when there was the end of the world, not too sure about the dates, something like the 24rth ?

I was in my hotel and there was a big commotion around this
 
tower 2 will still be taller than the empire state building- and 4 of the towers will be over 1000 feet tall

yea you're right, i'm sure it's the first time they've ever encountered that problem in the history of building skyscrapers.

Pretty incredible how fast it goes up once they get the foundation and first few floors done. Then it's just a matter of stacking
