ON3P Mango 90 difficult to control

I have a pair of Mango 90's with only a few days on them (they are detuned from factory), and they are very inconsistently grabby when trying to slide them sideways; the tips are difficult to control.

I looked at the bases with a true bar and they look good; I'm assuming something's wonky with the edge tune.

What would you do? I have basic tuning equipment, but little skill. I haven't seen many guides on how to tune park skis (I did look at Sagina's stuff but I don't want to spend 3 hours on my skis).

I'm thinking:

Quick side edge grind to 1 degree on whole edge length (not taking out muck metal)

Quick base edge grind to 1 degree on whole edge length (not taking out much metal)

Aggressively round edges on tips and tails that don't contact snow when on flat ground

Lightly round with gummy the rest of edges

Sound reasonable?

Thanks!

If they are grabby I would just detune them more through the contact points. I’ve never seen factory detuned on3ps so no idea how detuned they are.

Thanks; they are VERY detuned underfoot, maybe not detuned at all near tip and tail.

That have a factory base bevel of around 1.5 degrees for the wet PNW snow, which feels weird for other places. Going to 1 on the base made mine feel much better for where I am.

Are your boots too big for you? very common problem when people say they are lacking control.

About them being sticky on rails, just keep riding park and they will break in within a couple days of rails

Give your tuning plan a try and ride them hard for a few days. Brand new ON3Ps are stiff. I remember my first day on mine they felt like 2x4s until I went on some steep runs and and did some GS type carves really bending them.

The base bevel looked pretty funky (nonexistent) in 3 places; on one side of both of the skis near the tip (I marked one with blue sharpie before using a file and a 1degree guide), and one on a tail edge near end... hopefully they feel good now; may ski something fatter tomorrow though; should have some snow :).

Well they still felt funny so I gummied them up aggressively while on the snow and they feel better. It's a tough ski for me to get the hang of; even with dull edges the tips feel kinda weirdly hooky to me; maybe that will lessen when I bend the camber out of them? :). I will report back after I get some good time on them; thanks for all the advice! Despite my bitching they are very fun in the park! Neat shape and flex.

Your bevels are fucked. This was a big issue with ON3P a while back, but was supposed to have maybe been addressed, but I am not sure. Contact them and they will be helpful.

You mean 3 years ago? That is not the issue.

My jeffs were edge high, super scary. Ive also had other friends who bought jeffs around the same time have same issue. I'd detune em yourself.

I finally got 'em sorted out. Due to my sucky tuning skills I didn't get it right the 1st time... but last night I re-did just the base bevel with a file, and today the skis were worlds better...

Before, if I was carving a turn, if I were to gradually increase edge angulation, I'd get a really unpredictable, and way to fast increase in bite.... they're carving predictably now with a sorta linear icrease in bite when edge angle is increased, and don't feel 'catchy anymore. YAY!

After the previous tune attempt I did again, slower, with a new file, cleaning it, and then polished with a coarse and med diamond stone... they are catchy on icy flats (I didn't detune at all yet) but they're skiing great and I dig the skis now; had a blast on a variety of terrain today; they aren't a bad all mtn ski, aren't too bad in bumps, and they make you want to swerve everywhere :). Very fun!
