ON3P KARTEL 98 Set-up

Sorry for another ON3P question but I am about to finally pull the trigger on my first set of ON3P sticks and have decided to go with the Kartel 98. I am having trouble deciding on a size (181cm vs. 186cm). What size would you recommend and why? Also, I plan on running look / FKS 140's and should I go with the 95 brakes and bend them? Or should I go all the way up to 115? How far back should I mount them? Im thinking -2cm from true center?

I know everyone says when in doubt size up due to the rocker but I am currently riding 2014 Moment Vices in 184cm (182cm straight tape pull). I am 6'0" 180lb. Athlete build with strong legs. I have no problem charging and jibbing with the Vices all over the mountain. They do ride short but with their metal stringers in the build they stay surprisingly damp while charging.

How will the kartel being bamboo compare in flex, rocker length, and dampness? I really want to go 181cm as I know ON3P's measurements are spot on and they would only end up being about an inch or less shorter than my Vices anyhow. I think the 181's would help a lot in the park and trees but will they be beefy and stable enough when I really want to open them up and point em downhill.

+k to all for advice.

where do you mainly ski?

Im from michigan and if it were my daily driver, id go 181. Im 6'0 200lbs. BUT, if i lived anywhere outwest and used it more as of an all mountain/minimal new snow ski, id go 186

Sorry...submitted my last post without finishing what I was saying.

I ride east coast with one or two trips west if I am lucky. Usually, when I go out there I borrow a set of wider sticks to ride. Where I do most of my riding I would consider this a perfect day...

Morning--"Fresh tracks" Seeking out anything that hasn't already been tracked up. Technical steeps, trees, and any some hard charging / straight lining. I like to hit the harder features before crowds and before the little fresh my slopes have gets turned into mash potatoes or re-froze crud.

Lunch--"Exploring / Jibbing" Riding some glades, bumps, and seeking out medium to small booters or cliffs (I am by no means dropping 30 ft cliffs).

Afternoon--"Groomers & Hot Laps through Park"--Once my mountain gets crowded I like to cruise around (sometimes charge depending on what song is playing :) ) and people watch on the groomers. As I cruise I tend to make hot laps through the park to huck some jumps. I don't do many rails and I keep it to slow floaty 3's and 5's. I am by no means a park oriented-only skier and by no means would I consider myself good at park.

Honestly, I want to be able to do it all. That's why I chose this ski to begin with and add to my quiver. I just want to know that 181 won't feel unstable when I really want to get aggressive.

Im 5'7 165 i ride kartel 98's 181cm as my do it all ski, i rip park ski pow it does every thing i throw at it. if i were you i would go for the 186cm. i used to be a fan of shorter skis but once i hoped on a set of longer sticks, the added stability out weight being able to toss them around just a bit easier.

I'd say you can't go wrong either way. If you want shorter/more playful, go 181. If you want more chargier(?), go 186.

But I don't think that you'll regret it either way

Yeah id end up probably getting the 181s with your weight. I ride 186 Jeffreys and they are the perfect size for out west, but when I dick around with them out east and at home, they sometimes feel a little cumbersome to swing around.

Id go 181s. I think you'll like them better

ON3P skis measure there skis longer than normal since they don't count rocker when making the length.

186 for sure, you're heavy and tall enough for the flex to support you at a longer length, but the shorter ones might feel a little soft.

mount -1 from TC

enjoy

Not exactly, it's just that they measure based off of post-press lengths unlike most companies that measure the core length pre-press. So a 181 Kartel 98 will be a bit more than 181 cause they're 181 straight tape-pull (meaning they are 1cm shorter than the OPs Vices)

I'm 5'9" and 150lbs and I ride 181's. If I were you I'd go 186. I'm sure the 181's would be just fine, but at your height and since you like to charge sometimes, I'd go 186. You will honestly have no trouble throwing around the 186, I can throw the 181's around just fine (I'm not doing anything more than 540, but still). Thats my 2 cents. You've had the Moments in 184 so if you thought you could go a little bigger than do it but if not than just go 181 I guess. Overall, I really think you'll be satisfied with the 186, but again it's your call.
