ON3P Drill bit size

What drill bit size should I use for mounting some jeff 110s?

The FAQ page on their website is gone so I cant find the bit size any more.

3.6x9? They're not metal so that would be the standard unless you got something weird or Armada. [tag=3025]@iggyskier[/tag] to confirm. I swear this was in the faq on on3p but I can't find the faq anymore

3.6 x 9 is standard. Armada bit also works (actually what we use on most demos).

And we updated our web theme recently and it nuked our FAQ page - so gotta get it setup again.

I can only find 3.5 mm bits and 9/64 locally, how bad is it to use one of those?

I was thinking of getting a 9/64 because its 3.54 mm.

You can probably order a 3.6 x 9 from wintersteiger

I've used 9/64 just fine and 5/32 just fine on titanal skis. It's not the most kosher way but I pre-thread a sacrificial screw into each hole after drilling to 'tap' the threads and have never had a problem.

Less than or around 0.1mm is kind of incredible tolerance to expect from hand drilling into wood, that's how I look into it. Most important part is making a reliable drill stop imo. I'm sure the specialty tools are nice though.

I took my Jeff 110s and attacks to a shop to get the mounted and 2 weeks later they tell me that I need to take them somewhere else since they don't have the jig. I'm going skiing in a few days and no other shops can do them that fast, so that's why I need to mount them myself.

For anyone wondering why I can not get a 3.6 mm bit, no places locally have it and I can't get one shipped because of the time constraint.

9/64 bits are 3.571875 mm.

So 3.6 - 3.571875 = 0.028125 mm difference.

A regular printer piece of paper is 0.1 mm thick. Will the 1/4th of the thickness of paper make a huge difference?

Nope. You'll be fine. Just make or buy a drill stop so you don't drill all the way thru the ski. 0.02mm is negligible. No need to special order a 15 dollar drillbit. Measure multiple times drill once and you'll never go back to paying for a mount.

I got a proper bit and mounted them. There is just one screw that looks like it is slightly lifted on one of the heels. I only had a Philips so I couldn’t tighten it more without stripping it. Is that alright? The plastic seems to be pushing up against it

I don’t know why oh someone downvoted you for this lol

Op why are you making this more difficult than it needs to be? Buy a proper bit. This one will even stop at the right depth so no need to worry about that either.

I hand mounted and had attacks mounted at a shop so I have both references. This looks fine

Probably [tag=53325]@MilfHunter[/tag] or op cuz I was mean. Someone downvotes nearly all of my posts regardless of context lol.

Thanks, when I went to pick up my skis from the shop who couldn't mount them for 2 weeks I asked if a 9/64 bit would work, and then guy just gave me a wintersteiger 3.6 x 9 mm bit, so it worked out.
