ON3P and Edge Cracking??

Hey

Been riding ON3P skis for a while now. Originally had the Filthy riches and within 20 days of riding basic park and rails (nothing huge just basic spins and 90s on and off rails) the edges had a crack in them. At the time I just assumed Im progressing and doing bigger stuff therefore should expect some damage. Have now updated to some Kartel 98s 2016 and have been on them for no more than 30 days and boom another edge crack. Not trying to diss ON3P i actually love the company and have had nothing but good experiences with them. Just wondering if anyone else has had the same sort of issue. Just kills me after dropping over a grand on there gear and it barely lasting me 2 seasons when all Ive heard is how bombproof they are. I had a ski tech tell me its because they dont heat treat there edges but still not sure and just such a bummer i cant even attempt warranty because I ride park even though the skis are advertised as a park ski.

Yeah man, alot of people have this issue. You see, when you're slamming your skis into hunks of metal your edges begin to dull down until the point when they can't retain the vibrations of slamming into a rail, thus causing a crack. No matter how you think about it, when you're skiing park and hitting rails all day you're going to have edge cracks; just deal with it.

Everyone who impacts and slides metal ski edges on to metal edges gets cracks.

I understand how an edge crack occurs im more just wondering as i owned a pair of armada al dentes for 3 full park seasons sliding the same sort of rails with the same sort of impact and those skis still sit crack free in my garage to this day. from what Ive been told this is because Armada heat treat there edges, this way when your edge heats up on the rail it doesnt crack when it cools quickly when you land back on the snow. ON3P does not do this!!! I understand edge cracks will happen just heard ON3P are bombproof and know alot of people use them in the park. Just find it strange as id say im an intermediate park skier and both pairs didnt even have a month on them before the cracked. Really just want to know if any other ON3P riders have experienced this.

Suck it up bb

i had a pair of volkl walls that got 17 edge cracks on day one, detuned them too

theyre park skis. It's not like you're gonna notice any difference with a cracked edge.

if it starts pulling out than just bang that sucker back In and epoxy it

Also are you seriously bummed over 1 edge crack after 2 season of park use? Guess moms gonna have to buy you a new pair

I hope you didn't get a new pair of skis because of one or two edge cracks... Unless you are actually experiencing a noticeable difference which only really happens when you have hunks of edge and sidewalls missing, you're fine. 30 days with one edge crack like that is pretty damn good if you ask me. My opinion may be biased tho bc I ski in the midwest with tow ropes so having a ski hold up for any amount of time is impressive. You should send a pic of the filthy riches that you aren't riding anymore.

Actually less than 20 days on both pairs if you took the time to read my post properly. No need to be a tool Ive worked in the industry for years you tosser I buy my own skis and have fun on your volkl walls possibly the biggest piece of shit ive ever skiied on

. The filthy riches are done! i got an edge crack within 20 days but rode them untill there was litterally no edge left. I would never buy a new pair of skis untill the last ones are completely done im just saying it blows my mind my armadas lasted multiple seasons not one crack and 2 pairs of on3ps have cracked on me within a month.

No I did not! Skiied them untill they had no edge left whatsoever. In fact im more than comfortable skiing with cracked edges, have for years was more just curious as i have noticed previous skis I have owned holding up much longer edge wise. Just wondering if i got lucky or if the build quality is sub-par.

Ahh ok that makes sense. I have never had a pair of on3ps but everyone on ns seems to love them. One reason they might be getting beat up faster is because you're improving and just spending more time in the park. Armada for me has also been pretty durable but like with almost every brand some people think they're great and some people hate em.

lol, I get lucky if i make it 10 days riding rails without any edge cracks on any pair of skis. It's just going to happen if youre hitting rails, the thicker edges just give you a few extra days without cracking, the bonus is you can grind your base down more times to get fresh, sharp edges if youre into that.

Quantifying and comparing ski durability is difficult, but this part of the equation is often overlooked.

It happens with every ski. If you detune your skis enough they will last a lot longer on any ski. ON3P uses thicc edges, its not the companies fault. A lot of the time its actually from the users end not detuning etc. Sometimes its luck as well, and maybe you are underestimating your ability.

I think underestimating my ability might well be the most probably cause as I work as a ski tech so I detune my skis as often as possible not to mention I bought the skis through a pro deal so ON3P machine detuned them before they were sent to me. Ah well plenty of life left in them good to hear I'm not the only one who cant get through a season without cracking an edge!

Your old skis lasted longer without edge cracks, but your new skis got edge cracks faster? You got fat.

A shop doing a good detune on them wwould have helped. Round them edges under foot to help prevent the likelihood of cracking

Honestly, 30 days of park skiing with only one edge crack is pretty damn good. I had a pair of pipe cleaners that got like 5 edge cracks in each ski after a season or so of riding. I think your al dente's are a fluke. One thing that can definitely help with edge cracks though is if you rotate which skis are on which feet pretty regularly so it's not only the inside edges taking all the rail abuse. Especially if you do significantly more natural tricks than unnatural ones, that one lead foot inside edge is gonna get wrecked while all the rest stay pretty clean if you don't rotate.

dude this happens to everyone that skis park. you probably just have to stop skiing if you dont want your edges to crack .

Idk my pipe cleaners have no edge crack and this was season number 3, granted I don't really ski rails more pipe and bumps but still when I'm on em.....

30 days with one edge crack is actually really good. especially without detuning.

Shit i had 2 in my surfaces on their first day even with detuning. Rail skiing fucks your skis and if you hit rails you have to accept the fact that your edges will get destroyed. No sense in whining about it.

Well you're clearly not as hardcore as I am
