Olympic GS -190ft crash

just watched some chick who went right after lindsay vonn jump a knoll and land 190 feet later, backseat too, crashed super hard.
this is like the fifth chick to crash in this race. is it just me... or is the weird weather totally screwing with the athletes this olympics?
rough year to be the best

there have definately been lots of problems this year, the guy dying, the speedskating track, weather

That course looked super tough. Lots of sharp turns, and the air that they were getting off that bottom hill was pretty big.

my dad is one of the guys that works on the courses, shoveling, slipping and setting up airbags...he said the course is quite sketchy, especially "hot air" which is the huge roller that sends everyone huuuuuge. After the DH race today, they got a cat to shave off the roller to mellow it out and prevent more crashes. not sure if this is unique to these events, but they also infused the snow with water to make it harder and faster or something.

I watched parts of the men's DH race from the top, fuck they rip so unbelievably fast. I would be beyond scared shitless on this course. much respect to the racers, it takes real balls!

not that i claim to be even 1/100th the skier they are. but ide much rather ski ice over soft inconsistent snow.

from what i understand its commonplace to infuse the snow with water. making it as consistent as possible.

The race team I was on used salt and a little bit of water. That and what you do is have two coaches go down first side slipping all the soft stuff off followed by a guy spraying a light amount of water and another guy laying down salt. Such a bitch of a job.

That was the only run I saw and it was Anja Paerson, after her fall I had to leave. After having wicked knee problems the last year I was sure that she fucked up her left knee. Apparently she's fine though and deciding whether or not to race in the Combined event. Yeah, she defines badass.

It's the olympics... The golfing alternative would be playing at Pebble beach or your local public course. Everyone there should be on the top of their game. Anytime your skiing over 80MPH shit can happen in a split second.

That course was nuts. The commentators were saying that it was a really chattery course. I'm amazed at how strong they all are. I love watching ski racing at a professional level, it's just so incredible.

apparently they only had one practice run of teh course.. due to conditions... trying to preserve the course pre-race day... what a crash though, and the poor dear who fell at the start gate!!

did anyone else see when they were talking about Vonn's skis? the skis she was using were absolute BEASTS.

the power she has to be able to control and ski those things fast is unbelievable.

lindsey was running on a pair of 215 cm as opposed to 210 cm which is the minimum womens requirment for dh skis. its not even so much the fact she was running on a bigger ski but a much faster ski. not all companies have the same speed of ski, and the speed of the ski isnt determined out of construction, but after construction each company's technicians work the shit out of their wc speed skis, hot boxing etc. so some companies end up having faster skis then others. lindsey skis for head as does bode and supposedly heads wc ski quiver is the fastest in the world right. in addition to the difference in company's speed of ski, that 5 cm extra running service also adds an advantage.
to the people talking about creating an icier track etc. the process is called injecting the snow. to do that, long before the event, they run cats over the course with plowes on the back that chop up the snow and create about a foot deep grooves running all up the track. they then run fire hoses up to the course and literally blast water into the groves created. after they groom it over basically covering up where the water went and then over night/when its cold enough, the water sets up under the running service of the snow and freezes creating a seriously hard track. skiing on injected snow even has a different feel then ice its kinda crazy. sorry for the long post.

no, he's right. racers want the course as icy and fast as possible. notice how many of the racers crash when they hit soft snow. it's much better for it to be icy.

Well VANOC just hosed down the whole course... if thats not spraying i dont know what is.
I work in Creekside I have been watching them set up since November
