Old videos have way more views?

I was wondering if there was any reason why older videos seem to have way more views in proportion to the amount of time they have been on the site compared to newer video. I see old views consistently with 5000+ views and while they have been up longer, new videos don't get anywhere near that it seems.

Was hoping other people were noticing this as well. It's pitiful how many views you get now compared to the old system.

I feel like it was probably an error when transferring systems or something, I know there is no way some of my older videos have 5000+ legitimate views.

The video counts are indeed legit. As people share over time and go back and watch old videos, they can rack up a ton of views.

As far as views being lower on more recent videos, I think part of whats going on is there are simply a ton more videos being uploaded so people are spreading their views out over more and more content, and picking more specifically what they want to see.

i know you work for newschoolers and everything but theres no way all my old videos have over 10,000 views and my latest video has under 200. thats just not possible

i would argue there was a period of time even more videos were posted, when people would take a digital camera and post a single clip of a 540 or something like that

I feel you on this even though your latest vid is at 800. But I think edits kind of just fall through the cracks on the homepage.

It definitely is possible. Anything could cause people to not be as into new videos... nothing is guaranteed about how many people watch them. I mean its just like a band - just because the first album they were superstars doesn't mean that their 4th album 8 years later will have everyone going crazy for it.

The other factor here is that our system is a ton more ruthless now with what it counts as a view. In the old system for instance, when you added a comment the page refreshed. This counted as an extra view. We also trigger the view counter only on an actual video start, not just on a page load.

Things do amass views over time as well. Its key to remember that when something has been up a long time it keeps getting more and more views.
