when i turn on my computer today i get this antivirus 2008 thing pop up and scans my computer. i figure my dad got it somewhere so i let it do its thing. then it says i have 15 virus things and i need to pay for there registered version. so i just X out of it. now when i go to certain sites it comes up with an error page that says "this website is insecure, your computer is infected with viruses, download antivirus 2008"

then there is a button that says "continue to purchase antivirus protection" and one that says "continue to the desired page" so i click the second, only it doesnt do anything. the link doesnt work.

biggest scam ever. i know nothing about computers how do i get rid of it?

Well it could be some form of spyware that is trying to scam you. Or it could be a legit thing with antivirus 2008 which is a norton product. If it is norton, try and uninstall it. If it's spyware, get adaware and zonealarm and run scans with each of those.

oh yeah dude. thats reasonable. ill just go buy another 1300 dollar computer. give real advice.

FUCK MIDGETS. yea, grow a lil bit and then come back and maybe we will take your comment seriously

oh, and go destroy that ring

Mac Fanboys are getting really really old.

WOW YOU HAVE A MAC! We get it! Just cause its a mac doesn't make it any better overall than a windows or a linux. Telling someone to get a mac because you know NOTHING about computers and think it is better than all others is just wasting everyones time. So please, stfu, learn something about computers and keep your stuckup opinions to yourself.

Well macs don't get viruses and spyware and microsoft does. WHOA proof! Mac > Windows.

It's only a matter of time before people do start creating malware for Macs.

Still safer to go with a Linux distro

actually the first virus built specifically to attack macs was created about 9 months ago, and there have been at least 25 more since then. macs USED TO not get viruses or spyware because hackers couldn't be bothered to piss off the 5 people that actually owned a mac. now that people ACTUALLY BUY APPLE PRODUCTS, hackers are working on new and hilarious ways to show them that they've made a mistake.

but don't worry, i only hack websites, and i'm not a blackhat either, i'm a whitehat.

Ya and I've heard it 1000000000000 times. It's old, and more annoying that seeing "cool story hansel" a thousand times a day.

And ya, Macs are actually the easiest computer OS to hack and its just a matter of time before they have all kinds of viruses and spyware due to their increasing popularity.

just out of curiosity, i know you said you dont do the spyware and virus stuff. but what benefit is there for making a virus? i dont get it? just some lonely mans view of a hobby?

yeah making viruses is simply for the lulz. i used to do that but it gets way too hard these days what with all of the antiviruses and such. if you want real lulz, find somebody who enjoys playing solitaire on their pc and crack the game code so that every time they start the program, their computer shuts down in 30 seconds. hilarious.

Yes norton is a piece unreliable shit, just like all antiviruses. It is normal to pop up and do a scan unexpectedly. But the 15 virus one could be a hoax. You shouldn't have clicked on the web page, you could have caught something there. Send some mail to Norton.

I have been having so many problems also, sometimes Norton turns off without the possibility of turning it on, it expires before the expiry day...several times. Security upgrades have stopped working.

haha i won't don't worry. like i said, i don't do viruses anymore, and i'm a whitehat so i'm one of the "nicer" hackers lol

macs are WAY over priced. I was looking to getting one before i got my new PC, I got three or maybe even four times the hardware and software that i would have got with a mac. my buddy got a macbook and it crashed like a month later.

Agreed. mac's are womens computers. My dell works perfectly and ive had it for 2 years and have downloaded tonnes of shit onto it. yes including porn.

I have a similar problem. Every few days norton pops up, scans the computer, slows down everything else in the process, then tells me I have 6 high risk problems and to get rid of them i'll have to pay $60 to get the full norton version. fuck that.

luckily for me this isn't really my laptop, it's on loan through the school, all my files are backed up on my hard drive and i'm only using this one for the summer until they give me a macbook for next year. so, as long as it runs just fine for the next two months, i'm fine if it's infested with viruses when i give it back to the school.

just uninstall norton? get free anti-virus software that will work 1000000x better than norton. problem solved. norton is the shittiest anti-virus software ever made.

I've also got Sophos anti-virus. every time i run a scan with that nothing turns up. It doesn't worry me though, I haven't noticed that my computer is running any slower than it did when I first got it, and like I said, it's only mine for another two months.

theres no viruses for macs because they're worthless

*click*

you know what that was? right click mother fucker

THANK YOU

the funny thing about macs is most people pay an extra 200-400 bucks for a computer with some admittedly cool features that will sadly never be used. here's just a few mac features that my friends brag about:

-garage band

-movie editing

-ability to install windows

I don't know a single person who has done any of that. everyone who has a mac that I know uses it for the same damn thing I do: internet, word processing, and games. hmm games you say? well Macs can't run a lot of games, and can't play any ROMs. but you can install windows right? but no one ever does that, so it doesn't matter.

if you're not artistic and don't do some sort of adobe or movie editing, do not get a mac. the interface is fucking annoying, too.

I read this on Gizmodo today haha, I thought it had some good points.

"There are over a dozen people working at our fair Gizmodo, but as a Windows user, I'm in a definite minority. I still rock XP, and I'm pretty happy with that. Why haven't I switched to Macs? Plenty of reasons, not least of which being that I'm just too smart to switch to a Mac. That's right, I'm too smart for Macs. As Bill Gates's retirement rapidly approaches I figured now is a good time to lay out why I'm loyal to his OS.

I grew up with Windows. Although my first computer was a Mac Classic (I was like 3 at the time, and I only used it to play that helicopter game where you have to drop the little man into the horse-drawn hay carriage), I've been using Windows PCs for nearly my entire life, learning how to fiddle with the command prompt in DOS and dealing with the rudimentary pile of crap that was Windows 3.1. I survived Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME for a short, painful time, Windows 2000 and now, finally, Windows XP. It hasn't always been pretty (see: Windows ME), but through it all I've figured out every little trick there is to know about running Windows. I'm a monster on Windows.

And yeah, while some of those earlier versions were essentially garbage, running Mac as your OS wasn't all that great a choice either, especially before OS X came out. Yes, fanboys, I know you love your Macs and everything, but come on: The OS never really came into its own as a real competitor to Windows until 2001. By then, it was too late for me.

And while I used to be pretty into PC gaming, the whole no-good-games-on-Macs thing doesn't bother me so much anymore. It's just that to me, when it comes down to it, the PC just feels more logical. Windows is an OS that feels structured and it makes sense just because I'm used to them. Macs feel more nebulous and more dumbed down, like the corners have been softened to not intimidate your mom when she uses your computer. Well, I like having the corners exposed. I like tinkering in the registry to improve performance, I like being able to really tweak the system at the base level. Windows has its engine exposed, and while it might not always be pretty, if you know what you're doing you really have access to the whole thing. And hardware choices are choices I cherish as are access to plenty of apps. Apple takes pride in hiding everything under the rug and keeping it out of your hands to not let you mess it up. I don't need kid gloves.

Furthermore, beyond the OS itself, I hate the cult of personality that surrounds Steve Jobs. I like the soon-to-be-retired Bill Gates way more than Steve Jobs, because the guy cares about more than just making enough money to build a castle for himself out of stacks of $100 bills (not that Bill can't do that). Bill Gates is going to be remembered for seriously impacting the global health climate for the better. After all, the Nobel Prize is named after the dude who invented TNT, but his name is invoked a lot more often for encouraging advancements in science, literature and peace. And chances are, if the Gates Foundation keeps chugging along, Gates may even win a Nobel. Steve Jobs, on the other hand, just makes pretty plastic objects, and when it comes down to it, he seems like kind of a greedy dick. I'm more than happy to not give him any more money.

And you know what? Macs are too hip. Oh, look at me! I do graphic design! I wear women's jeans and hang out in coffee shops! I'm a DJ! Well good for you. My computer is not a fashion statement. It's a computer.

But really, when it comes down to it, the main reason I still use Windows is this: I'm stubborn and lazy. I don't want to switch because it will amount to admitting that I've been wrong for the last 15 years or so. And it would be just a huge pain to do it even if I swallowed my pride, having to relearn all the shortcuts and commands and little nuances that make an OS tick. I know all those for Windows already. I am just far too lazy to relearn OS X, and I don't care how easy you claim it is. I've made my choice, and I'm sticking by it. At least until I buy my next computer, because I sure as hell don't want to have to use Vista. I mean, I like Windows, but I'm not crazy."

he says it all in the vid.

I have a Mac and dont swear by it, I had a PC and got frustrated.

Mac is dope, but they build there product to have cycles i.e. batteries chargers etc only work a certain amount of times. Basically mac builds there stuff to die so you have to spend more money, where as pc you have some that do an many that don't. than theres your program differences. depending on what you plan to do with your comp should dictate the kind.

and answering the topic question, check if there are to x buttons or not in the pop up. if there are two click the outer one and if its the pop up i think it will say are you sure you want to navigate away from etc.

click ok instead of cancel and it should go away. hope that helped.
