Oil pan question

Is it possible for the oil pan on a car to get partially ripped off or bent from the wind at high speeds? And how much does an oil pan cost to fix?

from wind?? hopefully not lol

but your going to need a new oil pan so look up the prices for your car, or call a bunch of different shops and get quotes.

i highly doubt that its the oil pan, cause most likely the car would not be running right now. maybe it was the air dam or something in the undercarriage. but it would run ya a couple hundred

There's no way that wind damaged your oil pan. The most common reason for oil pan damage is high centering the car and banging it on something. If it's just leaking slightly and you don't think you've hit anything you could just need a new gasket.

If your car is fairly common is you should be able to find a used oil pan for next to nothing from a wrecking yard or you can usually buy a new one for under $50, you'll need a new gasket for it too and depending on whether it's a paper, cork, or rubber gasket it can be another $10-30

No, not at all. Youd have to go over a curb and hit something for it to do that kind of damage. Depending on the car it can be $50 to $100 for a new pan.

its a 7 series, and i believe they have a plastic covering or something protecting the oil pan, cus from what i felt it was bent plastic. And i guess high speeds could cause plastic to rip off

Anything could have. Just leave it there if its not hanging down. IF it is just unbolt it and throw it away. No need to get a new one.

i dunno if you got it fixed yet, but i had to get mine replaced and i would have been sooo happy if it had been that cheap. mine was 350 just to replace it, maybe cause its a foreign car haha. but that didnt even include the cost of the labor...

i doubt that wind would do it. you prob hit something and didnt know it. i dunno though.

good luck though.. have fun with that one
