Offseason and summer training

As most of us know, especially here in the midwest, the ski season is coming to an end. It sucks, and this year I actually want to be able to work on my skiing over the summer. I know a lot of you have some offseason shit you do. What do you do for your summer offseason (aside from hitting up some summer camp where you can actually ski)?

Just find another hobby that gets you in shape. Rock climbing, kayaking, biking mountain or road, running, lift some weights, go surfing. Basically just staying active is the biggest thing for me so that when the season starts I'm in just as good if not better shape then when it ended.

Then for rails and jumps, summer set ups trampoline, jumping into pools/off cliffs slackline.

I pretty much already do all that crap and I run so I'm not worried much about running and getting strong but more about working on controlling my body well for inverts, spins and rails and stuff. but yeah I'm guessing the tramps and stuff will help a lot.

Yeah trampoline is probably the most ideal way for most people (and especially someone from the midwest) to get their rotations down. I for one, am definitely not going to be able to head out to Windells or get to water-ramps.

I probably spent an average of 3 hours a week on my tramp in the Summer and it really helped me. When I tried taking it to snow, I already had the rotation dialed and it was only a matter of popping more, throwing it not as hard, etc.

And I'm not much of a rail skier, but if I were, I would definitely invest some money and a day or two to build a set-up.

skateboarding can actually help you more than you would think. It can help with your balance and agility. Its pretty physically demanding so you're likely to stay in shape. If you skate bowls and transitions it can help you get a better sense of rhythm and flow. Additionally any sport with some impact is actually good in a sense to prepare you for skiing. The continual impact can help your joints develop strength and be better prepared for impacts you are going to be experiencing skiing. Skateboarding is basically free after you buy the stuff which isnt that expensive. You can do it anywhere you want. And most of all. Its really fun and you will probably meet new friends that skate also.

Sounds legit, I was thinking about getting into skateboarding. I confess though that I am properly retarded at it when trying a friends, how easy/ hard is it to progress? (dumbass question maybe?? sorry)

It can be different for everyone progression wise. But personally I experience plateaus skateboarding. Its very frustrating to get comfortable and be able to ollie/ride a mini ramp. But once you get the bare bones basics down it can be a lot of fun and open up the world of skateboarding to you. Then theres trying to learn other tricks. Its very fun and rewarding learning new tricks especially because there are sooooo many things you can do on a skateboard. but just be ready to try something for hours, days and maybe weeks until you finally land it. But like I said, once you get the bare bones basics down its really fun and you can go at your own pace.

p.s. probably shouldnt watch professional skateboard videos or edits. they will make you depressed and never want to skateboard. those guys are so ridiculously good these days it doesnt make sense. haha. just kidding, watch them, theyre amazing and inspiring.
