OFFICIAL World Junior Tournament Thread

10-1, thought it would be way, way, waay worse. Once the backup goalie from norway came in, they held there shit together... intil the last 5 minutes or so of course.
 
I really liked that Norway team, you could really tell they cared about that game, even when they were down by 6. I think they have the potential to turn into a pretty good team in a few years.
 
man, like klazo said, we did kill norway but im really worried. i saw some shit goin on that you wouldnt even see at a peewee house league match. fuckin dumb turnovers in the neutral zone and while breaking out of ours, fuckin lacks of communication all day, stupid cross ice passes in our own slot, just straight up stupid shit. schenn played like a champ though

And im a little worried too but i feel they will step up to the occasion when they need to.
 
They where getting super sloppy, but no matter what level of hockey you're playing at, and the you've got such an insane lead, you're going to get bit carried away. They're all there when it matters.
 
fuuucccckkkk, but you gotta hand it to the Swedes. I only saw periods 2 and 3 but they were all over Canada, based on what I saw we were lucky to even take it to overtime.

Sweden's transition game was amazing though, they would pick it up in their zone and just like that they would be over our blueline. They are a really good team.

Sidenote: That hit Ellis threw in the 3rd was beautiful. Reminded me of Kassian's other than the fact he was skating backwards and he used it to take the player off the puck rather than destroy him.
 
I think Canada will pull through, but can you imagine this tournament with Hall, Duchene, Seguin, and Skinner were able to play in this......we'd be unbeatable. Although I'm sure other teams have some stars in the NHL too.
 
Indeed, sweeds played an insane game. Oliver Roy isn't playing net for the rest of the tourney, inless the other one fucks up worse. There was something else I had to say, but I forget.
 
even though they lost, it was the most intense thing to be there, ten rows up from the ice at the HSBC center.

its going to be like this now.

quarters: Canada vs Switzerland (easy win)

semis: Canada vs USA and Sweden vs Finland

finals: hopefully canada vs sweden again

i will be at the semis and finals!!

I wouldnt consider Switzerland an easy win even if we beat them pre tournament. Conz is a monster and you never know how lights out he could be. We're obviously the better team, but it's still a tough test.
 
no. Did you watch Switzerland against the US last night? Goaltending always decides this tournament, as it does in almost every level of hockey.
Conz > Roy and Visentin
 
I still think Canada win, especially with our depth of talent, but it isn't a free game by any means.
 
lol... you realize he's really not the only one picking the team, and regardless he picked the two best goalies. The two best goalies at camp were taken. JP's having a stand out season in mississauga but that doesn't make him a shoe in for the Canadian team. I worked for mississauga and know all the players like the back of my hand. He's a small guy, easy to pick top corners on him, thats why he was never drafted yet was eventually signed to a pro contract.
If he was such a moron, his team of basically no names, Mississauga, wouldn't be probably the best or top 3 teams in the nation right now (CHL).
 
Benjamin Conz right?

Conz is a small netminder who plays deep in his net. He has very unusual technique, which has become more effective over time.
 
a vendetta lol, you can't be serious. Are you sure you aren't just upset because your favourite players from the 67's weren't invited/ didn't make the team? Tyler Toffoli is probably the only one out of those players that should be on the team. Wedgewood wasn't even at the team Canada camp last month...
Also, I'm pretty sure Shane Prince is American....
If anything players from the OHL had an advantage because Cameron knows how a lot of them play, which made Visy a likely pick for a spot in net if JP didn't play well at camp.
We'll see how Ottawa will size up, but the majors are likely going to pile up some veteran forwards to the already best defensive team in the OHL.

haha sorry to ruin the second page of this thread. No hate against hockey here. I just wanted to show how easy it is to turn this around with differing pictures.

 
A player like Jenner, a '93 doesn't belong in the tournament yet, unless he's a top prospect such as sid. Building a team isn't about just taking the best players, the highest scoring ones from each league. Just because Linden Vey and Tyler Johnson both are tops in WHL scoring doesn't mean they'll suit the way Dave and his coaching staff want the team to play.
Who would you even want to replace on the roster to put in who you would like? It has to make sense too. No one expected a player like Brett Connolly to be so cold. And many people doubted Cizikas selection just because he plays for St.Mikes, but has shown he's pretty valuable.
Not trying to beef with you either, it's nice to banter about the CHL with someone who knows their shit and follows the league. We're all obviously going to have our seperate opinions on how the team should have been built.

I'm so bummed. I got the chance to go see Canada vs USA today, but my new broken collarbone is holding me back.

Will have to watch from the comfort of my living room.

i find it so funny that last year when we lost, americans here on ns were proud and arrogant and now they are nowhere to be seen
 
when a goalie who lets in 4 goals gets player of the game. It shows you how bad the rest of the team played
