Official US F1 Grand Prix Austin Hype

So the F1 Circus comes back to the US for the first time in half a century this weekend - to the first purpose built circuit in the USA.... and will become the USA's permanent F1 fixture for the next 10 years.

Anyone going? Where you sitting? Where you partying etc...

I'm heading to Austin on Fri morning, and will be in the Turn 4 grandstand...

Circuit looks amazing too - can't wait to hopefully get a shot on it sometime next year. Here's Andretti taking the first lap, followed by the Lotus test driver in a modern day car.... has a little bit of everything (no embed code....)

Got an autograph from Jeremy Colon (a famous grand prix driver from France)

he ight and prtty chill so imma go to his crib an seewas up wit his party and if any hoes r there

It could all get settled this weekend.... drivers and Constructors...

It's all about how Vettel and Alonso finish respectively... However I sense some kind of turn 1 carnage.... it's absolutely incredible.

Should be an amazing race - completely new circuit as the penultimate race is a great leveler for all the teams.

It's designed by Hermann Tilke, therefore the track will be shit and boring, nothing new, nothing exciting.

Also the stands woun't be filled. Simple fact is that F1 doesn't sell in the states. Redneck racing ruins it for everybody else.

can't tell if serious.

I don;t understand why the gran prix will be in Texas. I think a street course in Miami or LA would have been soooooo much cooler.

you mean decade?

On a side note, it is a track by Hermann Tike, so there are pretty substandard parts of the track, however I look forward to some big passing opportunities with the wide turn 1, the maggots and becketts like complex, and the right triple apex. Will be overall a cool track, but still overall boring nonetheless.

I hope they can find a market in the US, its what they need, and so does the US.

Oops - yes i meant Decade... I got excited!

Also - the replicated inverted Istanbul Turn 8 (Turn 15,16,17 at COTA).

Hoping the elevation change and the Turn 1, blind apex entry makes it a bit more exciting/add's a bit more character. I honestly don't think it'll be that bad - lot's of quick sections into slow, low gear corners and Sector 1 is pretty demanding.

Also - nobody really knows how the tires will perform - although Pirelli have been conservative in Prime and Medium....

Personally - im getting shit faced and balling out for the weekend - so i'm happy regardless...

I want to see Zandvoort return to F1 in it's old layout.

Those smooth banked sweeping corners with passing opportunities everywhere.

I will be relegated to watching on TV.

My dad used to work for garrett and did turbo R&D for the BMW team back in the 80s /claim

I'll be in turn 11 row 33. Arriving Friday afternoon. Should be awesome party scene too, international crowd. If I am able to stay till Monday maybe I'll try to crash one of Kimi's infamous parties, its almost a guarantee it will happen somewhere :)

I heard a rumor parking will be a nightmare, maybe even prices in excess of 100? That would suck, but whatever, it'll be worth it.

My parking pass alone in lot P was over $200 for the weekend.... Just going rate.... F1 is expensive

I'm staying at the Austin Suites Motel near downtown. Was the onlly fairly affordable place I could get, $200 a night. I only got tix to the race. But I'm sure viewings will be happening downtown somewhere. Also, should I already have parking tickets? I got my race tix from Stub Hub, so I'm not sure if that ws something I was supposed to buy in a package or something.

Yeah you need prepaid parking through ticket master. There are shuttles from downtown but the dumb thing is you have to use the shuttle pick up point assigned to your ticket... Which may not be downtown.... We just sorted a suburban and a driver for the weekend... Baller style. You did awesome to get accommodation at that rate!!! Holy shit.... Nothing available for last few months except a handful of rooms released at the W for $4000 a night recently...

I checked Priceline literally every day, really lucked out. Thanks for the info on parking, I would never have known. Do you plan on going out downtown FRI or SAT? I've been in Austin before, awesome nightlife.

Yeah I fucking love Austin-will poss be out on 6th later or tomorrow-got some VIP passes to party's though as well.... I live in Houston for work so know ATX well.... The circuit looks awesome from first practice (on now)... Pretty technical... Turn 1 obviously but the triple apex 15,16,17 (I think) is an amazing sequence... Flat out like turn 8 at Istanbul.

Well damn... If I hadn't forgot about the race being this weekend and had tickets I couldv'e hit you up for a carpool haha.

Well done Hamilton, so all will now be decided in Brazil...

Fantastic race, the circuit looks tits, cant wait to go for ALMS/WEC this summer. I would love to drive turns 2-9 over and over

Awesome race, amazing atmosphere, had such a good time. I met so many awesome people from all over the world. My seats in T9 were terrific, it was the highest point on the track so I could the whole backstretch and many corners. Lots of fun times Friday and Saturday in downtown as well. Just too bad Kimi and Vettel didn't finish in higher positions. Definitely one of my best weekends of the year; I can't stop saying good things about the race weekend in Austin!
