*Official Tyrol Basin Pre-Season 2009 Thread*

Yeah, I'm from Chestnut and I'll be tripping with like 4 other skiers almost everyday after school up to tyrol soon as they open. Last year it was basically halloween when they opened i think but it seems like we're getting cock-blocked by mother nature this year. Can't wait till we can start hiking!

They don't have any dates up yet for potential openings, unfortunately.

I got some brand new Oakley pants from that swap meet for 50$ a couple weeks ago. I just ordered a Smith Maze helmet (black supernova, the wolf matches my anthems *drool*), and am so stoked for Tyrol this year!

this is from there site as of a few minutes ago...

if you look at it now, a good amount melted... should be interesting to see if they can blow enough for the weekend.

Low of 27 tonight in the Mt. Horeb area. Hopefully they blow some more and keep that ground cold so eventually that snow can pile up. Temperatures for the rest of the week are borderline for snow making. Hopefully it dips another 3-5 degrees below the predictions so they can blow and open up this weekend!

I am a dumbass. I have been checking the snow cam bout once a day and everything and I just tried to look to see how much snow was there.... I am looking at the snowcam at 10:42 at night and wondering if it was broken... Fortunately it didnt take long for me to realize I am a dumbass

why the hell is wisconsin so warm. last year i remember freezing my ass off. any one no when there gonna open for preseason

i'm gonna go ahead and say NOT this weekend...even though i claimed it :,(
hopefully next weekend? i havent checked the weather yet, but fuck man....SNOW!

the tentative opening date is always late in the season, that's like the official day they consider themselves open...they always open earlier then that
so even last year when they allowed people to come and hike in october the tentative opening date was still late in November sometime
they'll be open for hiking whenever they can make enough snow which i think will probably be earlier then the 27th (hopefully next weekend???) i haven't looked at a weather forecast though

What I think is trying to be said here is that we are all frustrated and itching to go skiing...at least I know I am

I'm giving it to late november till I start itching to go skiing. this years weather has been so messed up I just don't think I'll be skiing till december.

location doesn't matter, it's the weather we're waiting on. It's been too warm to blow snow anywhere in southern Wisconsin.

Yes! So stoked! The snow guns are setup and whole bottom area by the rope tow is white. Hopefully it stays and they can open up this week!

Does anyone think they'll be able to open this weekend? I'm looking at the weather and the highs are 40-50 and the lows are just above freezing, but maybe with windchill they could blow at night. Idk what do you guys think?

wind chill has nothing to do with it. it's based off of wet bulb temperature which includes the humidity. Lower the humidity, drier the air, warmer the temps can be to blow snow.

Word up... cascade won't open till the 27th at the earliest so I don't suspect tyrol will be open too much earlier. But then again it's like a whole different climate in that basin, so it's possible.
