Official Trick Of The Year 2023 Nominations Thread

The Newschoolers Awards will be returning in January and as always we'll be awarding a Trick of the Year, voted by the community. With so many movies and insane insta clips dropping left right and center, it's difficult to filter it down to just 10 nominees, but that is the task ahead of us. We're asking for your help with finding the 10 tricks. We'll be prioritising street/backcountry stuff, but if there is a park heater it can still make it.

Last year's nominees:

Basically, we want you to nominate tricks in this thread and between the crew and our panel of judges, we'll filter it down to 10. The tricks have to be viewable without a paywall but as long as that movie is free to view in time for the awards, the tricks are all good. So tricks from CAST would be eligible, but TGR probably wont be. Gifs/timestamps etc much appreciated. Let's see what you got.

Honestly wouldn’t mind Megans trip taking it this year. Its kind of like the equivalent of Henriks NB trip, and the grab was held af and she stomped the landing.

There was other tricks that are crazier from a skill perspective but don’t have the same cultural impact on the community that Megans trick has. Hope she wins

Honorable mention that Martin Longhitano multi kink elbow rail that was held together by strings @like 2:30 in this vid

Spoiler alert: movie ender

Benjamin Carlund - cork 3 handgrab to concrete

Magma 3 isn't out yet, but A-Hall has several tricks in both street and BC that could be nominated.

Faction has a park part in their latest film Abstract, not yet released either, Matej, Elias Syrjä and Tormod have only few shots and they're extremely creative tricks.

Super dope, but didn't Mango have a very similar trick in his RealSki?

He did his on a pole and then jumped on I think but the rail was pretty short compared to joels

Yeah the closer on his first realski entry was basically the same trick. It was a sick callback to open his new video with

Just watched Abstract and Matej is like a cat. Looks like he doesn't even plan what he's gonna do, he just improvises and lands on his feet. Man is on another level.

not letting me quote rn but Megs trip no doubt. It’s not (yet) common for a lady to throw something down at TOTY level and the fact Meg laid it down at arguably our biggest annual event is even more impressive.

if we want more diversity in skiing this is an easy decision.

I nominate [tag=285432]@John.Hogan818[/tag] upright 1340 to run out of the landing or his magnificent upright back 810. I don’t have insta rn so I can’t upload the clip but his insta handle is the same

Thats fucked by itself, but the dumptruck almost hitting him makes it insane

I don't know if I can link it since I don't have IG, but I can see on Hackel's page he did a cork 3 off a huge 30-40 foot cliff with an immediate, 30-35 footer right after. This should at the very least be a nominee for TOTY. Anything other than a land on the cork 3, would have been pretty bad news for sure.

That amount of confidence in doing a cork 3 off a fat cliff with essentially no room for error is for sure pushing the boundaries and stuff worthy of TOTY.

The one from SBMC?

Not necessarily the most technical trick out there but never the less this ending is crazy. Couldn't imagine sending it over that platform and only spotting the concrete once you're coming down on it. Then again I am not B Dog.

Shouldn't NS wait for every movie to have dropped before doing this?

YES. I mean shit, I bet Magma 3 has at least 3 contenders for this and I haven’t even seen it yet.

Not sure what SBMC is (sounds lit tho), but from what I can see, it is the 6th post back on instagram from the most recent post

Scandinavian big mountain championships. Hosted at Riksgränsen every year in may.

I support this nomination. Clip is NUTS

Jesper's sw backflip to sw at 1:09 is pretty nuts. Also the 5 to sw tailbutter underflip(?) that Max does at 2:57 is crazy. So many bangers in this edit one of my favourites of the year for sure.

really agree here: it was a groundbreaking trick and executed very well.

He's a great skier but I don't think an 810 out of a cannon rail with zero style or flair to it is worthy of toty

After much thought I'd like to nominate Cody Laplante's blender wallride flip in Torin's last movie on redbull tv.

Also that syrja impossible flip
