Welcome to NS, it will steal most of your free time yet throw you into an incredible community of fellow skiers and keep you up to date on all the skiing news you could ever need. It is a very tight community full of one skier helping and interacting with another, so try to keep it that way

First off, we don't hate newbs, if it weren't for newbs this site would be dead, BUT, that being said, we do hate dumb newbs. Hopefully if you're willing to read this guide you will be able to pull yourself out of the dumb newb category and become a contributing member
Next up, the beloved SEARCHBAR. This is located in the top right corner of the page and it is your very good friend. The google search can be a little funky so click Advanced Search next to the google thing and that's the old searchbar. Before you ask a question that you think might have already been answered, type it in the searchbar, try lots of combinations, just always searchbar before you ask a question or post something
GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND, NS DOESN'T HAVE THE ANSWER TO EVERYTHING AND GOOGLE IS FASTER
-make sure you lurk around before you post to try and figure out how everything works
-make sure you post in the appropriate forum, i.e "which skis do i want" would go in ski gear not ski gabber
-don't take it hard when someone gives you shit, i'd say a portion of people on here look for noobs and try to bust their balls, just don't take it seriously
-try to only post when you have something to say, don't just post to get your post count up, then you look like an idiot
-NEVER make threads saying +++++++k, that annoys everyone
-go to a bootfitter before asking questions about what boots to buy, you should buy the boots that fit you
-don't talk about gear if you don't know what you're talking about, for example don't recommend skis you've never ridden, don't give gear advice that could potentially injure someone, and check your information before you post, nobody likes false info
inside joke expressions:(you should never use these, this is just so you recognize them and don't have to ask. it annoys me when noobs repeat the old sayings when they don't really even know the context. frankly it pisses me off when anyone uses these)
how to get to chad's from the bottom of alta?- ski patrol blew it uppee in her butt- don't ever say thisfull tilt- don't ever say thisjea- outdatedcool story hansel- when someone says a dumb story- don't ever say thiswin- when someone makes an epic postfirst- when you post first in something/thread- when someone makes a post that leaves nothing else to be said in the threadTHE GAME- you just lost, n00beheath is fat- kids make fun of him for his weight problemfaunt- search for it...and many more...
on to name colors:red names= site administrators, highest up, don't fuck with themgreen names= moderators, they keep the forums clean of bewbz, profanity, retardation, and trollsblue names= normal members who are male and also snwbrdmilf, beezey, k2ecripa, etcpink names= females or pedophilesorange names= ski industry folk
next the things next to people's names are contributor status earned by donating money to the site.they go up in order of awesomeness, so green dollar sign is lowest, clear is one higher, one yellow is one higher, double yellow is higher, and gold coin is highest

CHANGING YOUR PERSONAL INFOYou can find everything you need under My NS> Account Tools OR if you click Inbox in the top left of the page you can get to an editing page as well
BUY/SELL/TRADE RESPECTOne of the things that is so special about NS is how tight the community is. Freeskiing is a relatively rare sport and to see a congregation of so many people bonding and interacting over a certain rare sport is an incredible thing to have. Let's not go fuck it up by scamming. The B/S/T forum is a place where I've bought most of my gear and where lots of people entrust their money and information with other NS'ers. Whenever somebody gets scammed it chips away at the amazing community that has been built up around skiing and it lowers members trust in eachother. B/S/T should be a place where everyone can trust one another and where gear can be passed along without issues. Not all of us have lots of money so when someone saves for a long time and gets fucked by some douchebag it really fucking sucks. Now I know scamming will happen everywhere but I just hope you guys will think twice before stealing money or gear from fellow skiers
So post here if I forgot everything but all in all, make smart posts, don't post the ni**er word too much, don't post porn, if you want fucked up shit go to http://4chan.org,Lastly, don't be a huge asshole, you can rip on people sometimes but in general try to be a smart poster and a contributor to this site
So enjoy your experience on NS, it's a great place, and you will continue to make it a great place if you follow some of these guidelines

sry i said ski gear instead of gear talk, point is, not in ski gabber
i think it used to be called ski gear when gear talk and buy/sell/trade were merged

Awesome guide, the only thing that sucks is that most of the people too lazy to use Google on their own and follow forum guidelines were too lazy to read the guidance in the first place, and probably won't read this.

Still a n00b, but the best learning expereince for me was reading the Chad's Gap thread. All of it. I think I posted on it, that it should be mandatory reading for everyone just getting on NS. In an ideal world, their keyboards would be disabled, and all they would be able to use was their mouse to go to the next page. Just a thought but the Official n00b Guide is awesome. Now can you make it so it fits on a pole grip?

this is a very noob question, and for that I am deeply sorry.

but....how do i get the picture next to my name in forum posts. i have looked everywhere and cant find anything.

please PM me the answer, thank you very much. Again, I apologize for the gaper-ness.

on the top left of the page under newschoolers.com, click the blue link that says "Inbox" and in there you have the option to upload an iconit has to be exactly 50 x 50 pixels

I think this may NOOB 201

Probably one of the more helpful pages is accessed by clicking on "My NS" on the top bar, in the center under the banner ad. From there you will find access and navigation to just about everything. For example:

Region

Choosing your region will help Newschoolers to show you content from your area.

Connection Speed

This refers to the speed of your Internet connection. Choose the most appropriate speed to ensure fast page loads.

Cover Page

On a regular basis Newschoolers.com will post a new featured image

on our "Cover Page". This page is our digital spine on the magazine's

cover page. You will be shown the latest cover each time you visit

Newschoolers.com if you enable this setting.

GUI Editor

This is a user-friendly editor that makes it easy to format posts

and add media. This will work on most browsers, so enable it and

experiment!

Justify NS

Display NS in "Classic Mode", on the left side of your browser? Or display NS centered or aligned right?

Great Guide. But one problem. All of the things it says you shouldn't say you really should say.

For Example: Full tilts

No... you fail.. that was so bad for a while I wanted to kill small fluffy animals, with my bare hands.

Great guide though, it really should be somewhere more accessible to newbies.

great thread, but no steeze you joined in 08? you wouldnt even know the context to some of those jokes, so you cant really be all high and mighty saying dont do this and that

i've been on ns since 04
and i've spent enough time on here to know the jokes, have read the threads, and know its fucking annoying when noobs use these. i don't see how that requires an earlier join date on one account

also guys, this really bugs me, when someone posts a link to another site let's just enjoy it through NS, please don't go on that site and hate on the person and then label the comment NEWSCHOOLERS LOLOLOLOL, it's incredibly immature and always leads to legal trouble with ns and more hassle with the staff, just think before you do dumb shit

im a noob as far as join date but i know the origins of almost every joke as welli guess overuse is the only problemI guess I owe my minimal noobness and knowledge of NS' illustrious past to chapz who has been on here for four years. He gave me a nice history lesson so I suppose finding a nice member who has been around for a while can be useful too

make it so, whenever someone joins they get a message with a link to this thread. Was this already said? i didnt read it, haha.

By including a link to 4chan you just got every 12-13 year old boy that sees this addicted to the sexy beautiful women section of 4chan

thats one way to get them off newschoolers!!

sorry for the late double post but

im a noob as far as everything but this guide has given me wisdom and knowledge that i never thought i would acheive thank you nosteeze

i feel like an updated version of this post should be released every 6-12 months...and it should be attached to the Terms of Use you have to read when you sign up

well i of course wasn't talking about myself, i read them every night before bed, i'm hoping to have them fully memorized in a few weeks
