Cuyuna is dope been there a couple times and was amazed at how fun some of there trails were for such little elevation, plus who dosent like red dirt

If I'm trail riding or doing any uphill/xc, I'll 100% be wearing chamois. I don't understand how people ride trails without them. Downhilling, I just use the Lycra shorts with minimal chamois padding, but has hip and coxyx pads
 
What should I look at for light? I kind of want something that will let me ride woods trails at night near my house. I wouldn't be going warp speed or anything. I don't want to spend like $500 bucks on a light though.
 
I just got a new Maxxis Hight Roller II 3C maxx grip tyre for the DH bike, in the front I currently run an almost new Schwalbe big betty tyre, any advice on which one I should have where? Not sure how big the different between the two are but I want to make sure I dont end up with a tyre setup that leads the front tyre to slip out before the rear.

Way too many variables here left unsaid to say for sure (Big Betty compound, your riding style, your riding conditions, etc.) . The Big Betty kind of resembles a DHR II and looks like it will roll a bit faster than a High Roller II (which I find to be slower than others in the grippy DH family of tires), but I've never ridden a BB. I doubt either tire will be more prone than the other in regards to losing traction up front, but that will most likely come down to which tire is the softer compound of the two. If the Big Betty is the equivalent of a "super tacky" or something verrrrry soft, then keep it up front. If it's a harder compound designed for long life, put it out back.

Thanks, forgot to add that the Big Betty tire is the Trailstar triple compound, it definitively seems harder than the High Roller tire so I will run the Big Betty in the back then.
 
It's been abnormally rainy in Utah, but the riding when it dries out a bit has been awesome. I'll take this weather over 100° any day. Picture of my fiance at Eagle Mountain trails.

My 8yo has become interested in Mountain biking, he's had a Specialized Hotrock 20 for a while so I picked up a bike on CL yesterday.

It's a 2018 Marin Bolinas Ridge 2. Super entry level but disc brakes and 27.5" wheels and within my budget at $200, I think it's pretty decent. It's not even stolen, owner gave me a folder with sales receipt, owners manual, etc.

What's everyone think?

I sell a whole lot of those and other entry level Marins to kids/adults at the shop I work at, no complaints from anyone.

Good to hear! If I end up getting into mountain biking I can always move up. This one is super clean, looks like it's only done a few miles on dry pavement.

Now I have research to do, both on bike stuff and the local trails that are bike friendly.

I grew up on Bolinas Ridge in Marin haha. Download Trailforks and MTB Project to find local trails. They're both great apps, but I prefer Trailforks
 
Yeehaw summer is starting to get good. You can get up to mid mtn trail in Park City right now. Perfect timing for this new whip!

Went to my second Ladies Night at Whistler and in the two hour lesson progressed from greens to my first black! I'm starting to think I might figure this downhill thing out. If only I didn't have to join ship Wednesday, because my stoke is at an all time high and now I won't get to ride for a month.

Finally got a bike this summer which so far has meant I'm just falling a lot but also shooting more biking. CBMR's bike park is shaping up nicely. First time in years that I've been excited for the snow to melt. Pics from CBMR last week:

Bike park has almost everything open, but some of the rest of the trails still need a few weeks to open up. There's definitely some good riding to be had, but the high-alpine trails are still covered in snow.

Just crazy that on this day last year we were riding up on star pass/crystal lake trail haha doubt that’s good until August.

Got to demo the newest RIP 9 29er at Sandy Ridge last Sunday. That thing... (ahem) rips, and I was really impressed with how well it climbed. Good first day back on something other than a hardtail in a couple years, and hit the new jump trail at Sandy. It felt so good to hit jumps again.

Word is that Star Pass isn't going to open on the Aspen side this year, I don't think. I was hiking on that road on the Aspen side last week and the avalanche debris covered the road for miles. Got some friends helping clear it, but the outlook for it opening this summer is not good

If your local shop uses qbp (I’ve seen em on jbi too) as a distributor they have some wheels built by quality wheels with blank formula hubs and wtb i35 or i29 asymmetrical rims. Have had a pair on my last 4 bikes and they’re bomb proof. Haven’t seen any issues riding the bike park every weekend. There’s kind of a cult following for these with some of the locals at silver mountain cause they’re so rad and cheap. 400-500 for the set depending on availability.

Well I think I finally decided on my new bike, going to get the YT Capra 29 Al base. Wasn’t the bike I originally wanted but it’s all I can afford now. Pretty stoked to get off my XC bike
