With that statement, you should seriously consider taking the advice of EVERYONE in this thread telling you to buy used

Just cause your buds just got new bikes and are trying to top the other one buy spending the most and having the nicest bike is not a reason to buy a new bike. The money saved from you buying a used bike is worth it and you can probably buy a much nicer bike than them for the same price if you get it 1 year old.

i never said or even thought of trying to buy a nicer bike then my friends, im tired of my xc bike and ready for something that sends, and i never said i wasn't going to buy used at all if i find the bike i want used i will get it but as of right now there are none on pinkbike.

I've been thinking about it would you guys say the canyon torque is closer to the Enduro or the dh side of the spectrum? 180/175 seems like a lot speaking that most enduros seem to be around 160

Definitely downhill. If I ever need to buy a more downhill oriented bike over my 160/150 bike I’ll most likely go for the torque

To add to the conversation, my first trail bike I bought was new. Of course it was nice but I wouldn't go that route again. I bought my dirt jumper and my downhill bike used - I didn't have a large budget but I got bikes that were a few years old for a great price, they still hold up well.

I plan on selling my road bike and trail bike this summer so I can buy a used bike in the winter when prices are low. Last winter I saw a dope carbon Knolly Warden for like $3,000 - I feel like it would have been worth close to $5,000 in the summer (give or take). Used is the way to go.

Hey dudes. So I'm new to mountain biking and looking to buy. Pinkbike has a lot of good stuff and I know what I want. My question is if i bought diamondbike should I be worried about durability and such. I dont give a shit if it's not a cool brand. Like I said I'm a newbie so I'm buying used and cheap and going from there.

ive never ridden a db but look at seths bike hacks, hes sponsored by them but he abuses his bikes like crazy and they hold up.

I've been working on and off on my jump line and im trying to make like a north shore section ( the drop and berm to rock garden) what else could i add that you would see at the north shore, or just any good idea for a feature.

I assume that fire is a permanent trail obstacle? It's like the lava pits in tony hawk pro skater 4 or whichever it was.

it wasnt planned but i should find a wood that always burns and do that

Thanks man. I'm thinking of just buying new now

Diamondback seems to make good bikes and good prices. I can get a handrail for 700 or 800 bucks. Any advice from the biking community on NS for a noob.

For sure. I'm looking at the diamondback line. It's the middle model in their hook, line and syncer models. All the reviews I've read make it seem like it's a legit entry level bike and for 900 bucks which is more than I would.like to spend I think I'm making the right choice. What's helping me out is affirm, making monthly payments is going to allow me to buy something a little more expensive as I couldn't come up with that amount at.one time for at least another couple months. Being an adult blows sometimes. Fucking responsibilities.

Sounds like a good plan

Rode the Kenosha Pass megatrail on Sunday and it was siiiiiick but now i need get my shock rebuilt...$180 overhaul here we come! I also think we ran into Joey Schusler and some other Yeti pro on the trail, either that or they were some serious yeti nerds.

What do you guys think about yetis? I think they're overhyped big time nowadays.

I love my sb5.5c. I honestly can't stand the brands image these days and I can't really say the retail pricing is totally worth the bit extra than other brands, but hot damn after riding Santa cruz/Intense/Treks over the years I have to say my sb5.5c is one of the plushest rides I've ever been on. There's almost no pedal bob while climbing in open mode (it actually climbs better open over being locked out, even on smooth fire roads) and the switch infinity really makes the 140mm rear travel feel like 160mm when it gets technical. Really I just got it since I found a good deal and the geo is exactly what I wanted, but I wouldn't be opposed to buying another in the future.

Yeah, I've always thought they were awesome bikes but now it seems like every dentist in Denver has one. I've also heard yeti frames aren't the strongest but its only a problem for people who ride pretty hard and weigh ~200 lbs.

yeah when I got it I said "oh look I'm a dentist!" haha

The quality of the frames is as good as any other brand though, don't be mislead by that one pinkbike review that everyone gets hung up on.

anyone here bike Killy? Fucking love that place - best east coast mountain I would say. Black and Blue Magic are tremendous

Very overhyped, also very good bikes. Can't go wrong with one, but you can certainly go cheaper

Went biking in Verbier and Zermatt and it was the coolest thing I've ever done.

Biggest thing that helps me is going out on my own and just sessioning sections of trail until I get them dialed. I'll go out and ride the same three turns 15 times in a row, trying to get the flow exactly right, then move on. Same with climbs, I'll just go ride the damn thing until I clear it, or I'm too beat to keep trying. As far as I've found that's the best way to get my fundamentals down. I really like doing that solo, without the pressure of the group to keep going I'm way more comfortable practicing little sections of trail. The only exception to that is jumps, I like being with a crew to hit new jumps and gaps. Last year I helped coach a little kids MTN bike camp and it might have been the best thing I did all summer for my riding. 30 hours of just practicing flat cornering and manuals and such. Not exciting, but building the fundamentals is vital. And good call on the Roscoe, Plus is the way to go if you're just getting started!

Climbing takes time to get good at but I highly recommend getting into dirt jumping if you really wanna learn how to descend!

Get comfortable riding while standing, allowing you body to move forward and aft for various terrain will def help with stability and control. No need to be sitting on anything bumpy, off camber or cornering esp when wet! My best advice is get a couple of your friends on bikes of similar ability and ride together as much as possible;)

UPDATE! I have now gotten much better at this mountain biking thing! Im completely addicted. Ive added a dropper post, upgraded my pedals, and converted my tires to tubeless!!! Ive gained so much trail confidence!! Thank you everyone for all of your suggestions and tips they helped greatly! so happy to have found something just as addictive as skiing, that I can do while I wait for ski season!

Anyone selling brakes? Looking to make an upgrade on my hardtail. Aggressive all mtn riding style, and I'm about 200 lbs so no xc stoppers pls and thanks

recommendations on a hip pack? my shock/frame setup doesnt leave enough room for a water bottle but i want to ditch the backpack.
the dakine 5L is what I like. 2L bladder is the biggest on the market. Straps hold tight unlike the camelbak option.

Look at used bikes, or look at direct to consumer brands like yt, commencal, etc.

First time riding 401 was magical! It rained pretty hard early that morning leaving us with nothing but HD the whole way down!

I'm going to be there next week. Can't wait to check that one out.
