Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

game 4 is always the biggest. it's the difference between 3-1 and 2-2 (or of course a 4-0 sweep, but that's rarely the case at this stage). 2-2 = anybody's series, 3-1 = van wins.
good luck and may the better team win

This and the hella long post speak the truth.
LOL @ dude talking about Chara's eyes trying to justify his goon play on Pacioretty.
LOL @ football jockotron trying to hide his ignance by drawing parallels to his sport. Hockey is a MANS sport, go get dicked in the showers you brofag.

wait, what? coming from the kid with a Chelsea icon? generalizing me as a "jockotron" is just absurd. how is it unreasonable to draw parallels to a sport i played for 11 years? the scenario is fairly similar, if you don't have your head on a swivel you're going to get laid out, simple as that. i really don't know what you're trying to get at.

also, we didn't shower after practice/games in my locker room, sorry for ruining your fantasy.

To those of you arguing that the hit was mostly Hortons faunt for not having his head up, heres what I have to say. Someone said earlier that the hit took place .85 seconds after he passed the puck so we'll use that. Let's say that Horton started to turn his head .25 seconds after he passed the puck (for those of you who think thats way too much time, use your phone or something as a stopwatch and see for yourself how quick of a reaction that actually is). Then, to turn his head the almost 90 degrees it would take to see Rome coming at a relatively normal pace, it would take about .5 seconds (again take out a stopwatch and time turning your head 90 degrees and that should be pretty accurate). Now, I'm wondering how much Horton could have actually braced himself for the hit in the remaining .1 seconds before he got hit. For reference, it's near impossible for a human to start and stop a stopwatch in .1 seconds.

That is all I have to say about the hit

Most hockey players aren't staring at the puck when they pass it. You learn early that having your head up while controlling the puck/making plays is the most important thing to make sure you don't get leveled. Horton should have been aware of the players in front of him. Instead, he decided to watch his pass and got what was coming. Don't base your whole argument off of what some ns'er said in this thread. The hit was late, probably a second and a half after the pass, but all could have been avoided if Horton didn't watch his pass.
Also considering the fact that Rome initiated his movement towards Horton right as he passes I think Rome thought that that maybe Horton was going to move the puck up himself, and when Horton passed it Rome and no choice but to follow through with the hit. Connection with the head was just unlucky for rome and horton.
Hockey play gone bad, 4 games is fucking ridiculous. 2 or 1 would have been way more fitting.

How about this page isn't about that goddamn hit? Nobody is changing anyone's mind, and nobody is saying anything new.
Game 4 tomorrow, get stoked.

midnight shinny on mainstreet in Rossland. happens a couple times a month throughout the summer and is probably the funnest shinny i've ever played.

in other news, it seems like a lot of people in this thread have never really played hockey before.

fuck that kid, he's the worst poster in this thread...even if we disagree with frodo and j.d. we still know that they are knowledgeable in the sport of hockey unlike this ass clown

Enough of the hit, sooo much more to talk about in this series than one play..

Vanc fans - how you feelin about luongo for game 4? You think it was smart vigneault let him stay in after he wanted to take him out after the 5th goal? I understand having faith in your goalie especially in the stanley cup finals but I feel like that might be a point in the series people look back on depending on if this goes bad for vancouver (he let in 3 goals on 3 consecutive shots...) it's well documented that luo is kind of a head case when he has a bad game..you expectin him to bounce back quickly?

so stoked for tonight... i want to get out of work go home and drink beers soooo badly. this is going to be a long day. lol i've started it off right on NS i guess.

about that trueskier character .... lol, who would do that? what a jerk =)

Anyone pissed at how cute Lucic was trying to get with the puck in game 3? He had several opportunities to sink the puck into a wide open net but opted to pass instead. Shoot the damned puck

i feel that he's lacking confidence in himself. I noticed that he has not been playing to his potential these playoffs. he's gotta shake himself of the doubt and play like Lucic.

A couple tiems i wanted to scream when he decided to pass the puck off instead of shooting it

Yes! Holy shit I was literally just having a discussion with my boss about this 5 mins ago...

What an amazing disappointment he has in the postseason coming off a 30 goal year (b's fans don't even think about him becoming a perennial 30 goal guy....) he thinks he has the speed and quickness to be a shifty guy and dangle all these players but just ends up losing the puck cause he has cement block on his feet...looch do us all a favor and do what you are good at: run north to south and steamroll anything in your way, dump and chase and make defensemen worry about playing the puck behind their net

Whoops, typing on my phone and hit reply...what I meant to say is that he needs to ditch this finesse shit and just grind it out like he used to. Leave the quick and cute game to Marchand and, now that Horty is out, Seguin. That kid killed it at the beginning of the lighting series, let's see some more of that. Amazing how two of their flashiest players are younger than I am. Marchand is a such a weapon on penalty kolkka, he's just so swift and shifty. He has great patience too, did you guys see how long he waited to upper-90

Wow, fuck iPhones. Sparknotes: Marchand is deadly on the penalty kills and has great patience. I'll see you people when I get back on a laptop.

hahaha ...i hate trying to respond on my phone.
but i agree with you. marchand is great on the PK. I hope seguin steps it up tonight. he had big shoes to fill when bergy was out, now he's gotta do the same for horton. none of that bullshit he was doing in games 1/2.
and fuck lucic. Do something with the puck tonight. recchi was having the same problems, and then he got 2 goals. maybe lucic will snap out of it tonight too.

Well that really worked out well for you...

FYI: Trueskier is also known as Technofarm. Incidentally, both of those names are now banned for use of homophobic slurs. The moral of the story is, don't be a prick.

Well, the REAL moral of the story is, you're an idiot if you think you can get away with repeatedly launching into bannable tirades in a thread (actually, the only thread) in which I post on a daily basis. Check your head.

completely agree.

i dont wanna bring the non-call against chara on pacioretty in this but i must. they both were "interfering" and both had unfortunate but accidental head shots, but chara got no games and rome got 4.

yes campbell stepped down but he still had a say in this. the league is a fucking joke.

im still curious as to who is going to be played instead of horton, i could see seguin or maybe peverely? opinions?

Whose playing time was cut to get Thornton in? as far as i know, Seguin's, so it would be reasonable to assume Seguin would be back in the lineup.

that's what i was thinking originally, but would he really mesh all that well with that line?

although he is very similar in that he is a quick, goal scoring player

hmm

I don't care if you're kidding, it's ignorant. Americans could make the argument that the majority of NHL teams are in the United States. Canada wouldn't even have the ability to play in such a popular league.

it's definitely a tough call, but if you have two play-makers like Thornton and Seguin on the same line, good things can happen. Thornton's a fucking enforcer, too.

Yeah.. good luck with that one. He want's at least 5 years, and who knows how much per season.
Not sure how much the flyers want to pay for that... considering they have the highest payroll in the league.
from UFA's leaving, they only add 4.5 mill in space... Unless they buyout, or trade, I dont see things being so easy for them to get Bryz.. especially if he commands Luongo money, which I wouldn't put him past doing .
Regardless... you get him behind that Philadelphia defense, and that's quite formidable.
I'd be curious to see what Vokoun asks though... That's the real question, since those two are the main goaltending free agents going into this offseason...

kids a fucking tool bag and obviously just trolling this thread if you look at the shit he's spewed the last couple pages...dont know why he hasnt been booted from it yet

Most likely first line replacement will be ryder or peverly with seguin dropping back to fill who the spot of whoever jumps to the first line, either way don't expect the lines to be set in stone cause im sure claude will be juggling a few guys around

It's a difficult spot to fill because horton averaged 20 mins a game with almost all of it on 5v5 skating..definitely a large spot to fill for anyone so look for it to be spread over a few guys

Another question... Detroit...
Who are they grabbing up to fill the Rafalksi void? Do they go UFA route, or do they make an offer sheet to the STACKED RFA class.
(Keith Yandle anyonone?)

why would the best defenseman in the league retire? he's probably the second greatest defenseman to have ever lived. and #1 wasnt really a defenseman. he just skated around everyone, shot, and scored, all game long..

yeah, should be an interesting summer.

montreal pretty much has more than half their roster as UFA and RFA, pretty much all their defense too.

they've only signed no skill Gill to a 1 year

Reimer better on the leafs roster next year too

But canada does make up the majority of players in the NHL. so the 2 points sort of cancel each other out.

and canadian teams make more money than any other team in the NHL...

(not trying to start a canada vs USA debate here, just stating facts)

yee road hockey is the way to go. we play road hockey all the fuckin time in glen abbey, our games usually become pretty fuckin big

I think he'll be fine. He has responded pretty well this year after a loss and i expect him to play better. You can't realy put all the blame on Luongo anyways, the defense played terrible and they only had 5 D all game so pairings were all messed up, plus once Bieksa got a misconduct they only had 4 D which is when Boston got their last 3 goals.

Tonight Vancouver will get to play with 6 D again since game 1 so i expect a much better defensive effort. Hoping both Ballard and Tanev get in and Alberts is out but i don't know if it will happen because of the physicality Alberts brings.

I'm pretty sure Luongo stayed in because he probably didn't expect to get scored on 3 more times and like he said you win and lose as a team and didn't wanna just leave his team.

Lol that article is hilarious, its just a butthurt Hawks fan whose upset we beat them in round 1.

Mentions Raffi's hit but no comment on Bickells, even though they are the exact same scenario.

Rome's hit was clean, although late

Every other team is slashing behind the play, just ask Bieksa how his legs feel, or just watch Chara

Anyway, 2 hours till the puck drop!! Should be a beauty of a game

I agree, but unfortunately if they win the cup most of that will be washed away.... because they did what it takes to win.Although they are cheap whiners history will remember them as winners. This is why the Bruins must win.
