Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

Just fucking stop with the hit. its over and nothing anyone says on an internet thread is going to change. Plus both sides seem pretty stubborn to their points and no one is getting anywhere. Like a few people said above, the past is the past. Everyone should be focusing on the next 2 (3) games.
 
i like this post. respectful and well written, to the point where it actually made me question my own opinion about the hit. obviously i still think it was late and that the game misconduct was a good call, but i do agree the suspension might have been a little bit over the top. i wouldve still suspended him, but maybe just a game or 2
 
I for one am all for an earnest discussion on a matter that is relevant to everyone's interest. This thread is a great place to read the opinions of different types of hockey fans and try to see things from all angles. The whole point of this thread is to discuss things that are hockey related and right now, and the he Rome hit is at the forefront of this. Frankly, there's not a whole lot else to discuss right now. The Canucks got shellacked and until tomorrow that's pretty much the best there is.

2. The hit is hard to break down, but god damn it's so close to shoulder to head contact. go to the one minute mark of this video, i feel like i'm taking crazy pills but i'll be a monkey's uncle if that isn't contact to the head.

DingoSean said it best when he said something along the lines of whether Horton was watching his pass or not the fact of the matter is the hit was so late to the point where it's unexpected and he doesn't have to pick his head up. trust me, i know the importance of having my head on a swivel. as a quarterback, i had d-ends, linebackers, corners, and safeties looking to light me up every time i dropped back to pass. but it can almost be compared to a quarterback getting hit well after he's released the ball, admiring his pass.

this is a head shot. and interference. without a suspension.

yea but see horton never looked up ice, whether it was right after he passed it or a half second after, not a peak, he would have seen rome position himself right in front getting ready to drop his shoulder. hockey is a heads up game

i agree with that big post a bit above where he said the league is inconsistent with calls like this. there needs to be a standard that is not just how hurt the victim is. they say they want to decrease dirty hits yet they base suspensions much on how serious the injury is. there needs to be a suspension based on the play, not the doctors report 15 hours after the hit. im done arguing about this. just getting stoked to watch game 4

curious to see what claude is gonna do with the lines now. gonna go out on a limb and say I wouldn't be completely opposed to seguin stepping right into Horton's spot. him and krejci are quick and have the potential to score goals, while Lucic can bring in the physical aspect. I'd like to see it, just once, and if it doesn't work, lets go with Peverly. now i know that will never happen, but it'd be cool to see. and as rear admiral (barstool sports) said today, "sucks to lose horton, but Bs have a highly talented, very hungry #2 overall pick replacing him, not a 4th liner."
and maybe the one positive here is that thornton will be in game 4? hopefully he doesn't get tossed out for being scary
 
So it's not okay to make sure your pass finds its target? I mean, I understand why your upset one of your pathetic excuses for a "classy" player is now suspended. But blaming it on Horton is like saying it's Travis Roy's fault he's paralyzed because he chased the puck close to the boards. Which is complete horseshit.
 
i said it before, i'll say it again, players have to keep their heads up. there were plenty of hits in that game that were much later than rome's hit, but since the players had their heads up they were prepared to take the impact. horton didnt play heads up hockey and paid the price.

FUCK THE HIT seriously it's been beaten to death now.

The only thing that will warrant a re-opening of this discussion is if:

A) Anything becomes of the appeal that Rome & agent are allegedly going to launch, or

B) If Horton makes a miraculous return for Game 6 or 7 in which case the Boston organization could be accused of playing politics to influence the NHL disciplinary decision.

No one's going to come to an agreement on this. Just sucks that this series has to be so entrenched in controversy, would be so much nicer if the better team just won minus all this misconduct bullshit.
 
I love how the Bruins immediately labelled the Rome hit as a dirty hit, how quick they are too forget, just last series Ryder this.

the intention was to injur thats the only reason a shoulder hits a head that hard - shoulder to head = illegal. no avoidance was even made on rome's part it was a good second hafter the puck was passed and no effort was made to get out of the way. the only effort that was made was to smash hortons head in and thats what happened penalty yes.

4 game suspsension? after the shit that those floppers and finger biters pull? FUCK YES
 
agree to disagree but he didn't skate right into him, he saw him last second where as rome had him eyeballed the entire time. ryder didn't skate into, he more brushed him.. if you watch teh vid you can see its last second

Horton's head was down when it shouldn't be, not supposed to watch your passes, one of the first things they teach you cause otherwise you are gonna get hit. The hit was not illegal Murphy admitted that, it was just a tad late.

haha well yes i have actually.

played for 11 years, a few at A level, reffed for 5. had my season last year cut short by a blindside head shot that put me in the hospital, so you better believe i have sympathy for concussion situations. this just happened to be a situation where i felt... well you know how i feel, even im starting to feel like im repeating myself a little much.

opted not to play this year so i could focus on school a little better and have more time to ski, still love the game though, i just dont like people who dont know what they're talking about.

So how about we all just stfu until the game starts tomorrow? Right now it's just a whole load of bullshit in here & almost all of us can take some blame. There is actually still a Stanley Cup Finals going on with some super entertaining and impressive hockey to watch
 
trueskier is hislarious, maybe even a troll, but inflamatory nonetheless. I've been waiting for someone like him to post what's been on a lot of peoples minds but don't have the guts to post it. I think we ALL need to just step back, a lot has been said by both sides, but until game 4, no more childish arguing about his head being down, or whether it was a dirty hit, or Ryder's hit in the Lightening series. What's happened is history. I think we all can look forward to game 4 as it will be a microcosm of emotions from both sides.

oh shit really? i use to play last summer alot at ice sports but we've stopped. we just play alot of road hockey now. i use to go with 3 friends and theres just always a bunch of randoms to play with and we play for hours til like 3am lol

but yeah its 7$ every night at 12am on tuesdays + thursdays. i totally forgot you were from oakville.
