Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

I don't know if you're talking about the Horton hit, in on my iPhone and don't feel like loading previous pages but it absolutely was dirty. The hit was made well after he passed the puck, long after the puck changed hands. There's finishing a check and there's laying a blatant late hit on ski

Fuck me. Someone*, and Rowe (if thats his name) was the latter. And if I'm not mistaken, I thought contact with the head was illegal? I don't really know though. Also, I'm incredibly psyched that Lucic fucking socked Burrows. Burrows is a cheap shit player and shouldn't be on the ice.

people who are saying he got hit 3 seconds after passing, he gets hit at 3 seconds in this video./static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png
stevens shoulder actually hit him right in the head but there is nothing he can do about it. the rules have changed since then but there wasnt even a penalty.nhl is turning into pussy shit

i must say, i was surrounded by canucks fans the whole game and i was cheering on the brewers the whole time, pretty freiken awesome until they all wanted to fight me.

alright im bored so there better be some people on to disagree with me and argue.

first of all im a hugeeee nucks fan. im also a timmy t fan. yes. that hit (thomas') was fucking awesome. and when theyd showed his stats after i almost peed myself. 35 saves and 1 hit. best thing id seen all series. but holy fuck was that ever embarassing. sloppy passes from the d on the breakout. powerplay was bad. got so screwed up so many time. i think on one goal we actually had tambellini qb'ing the peeper breakout? how the fuck does that happen. but holy fuck. it was like everyone had cement for hands. one positive thing was that fucking filthy toe drag by Raymond. oh my god. if you play high level hockey you probably shit yourself in fear (boston fan) or in happiness (nucks fan)

now for the hit. to the head? gtfo. seriously. intent to injure? go watch raf play. or thornton. those guys should be getting intent to injure calls all game. those guys are trying to hit you in the chest so hard they break ribs. its competitive hockey. deal with it. you learn in peewee hockey to play with your head up and here is why. fuck it sucks to see someone go down and not have there arms fall down with them. ive blacked out playing hockey once and waking up with people wondering why they arent letting you move is the scariest thing ever. you hate to see that happen and i truly hope hes back to play in this series but it wasnt as if rome was coming from behind or targetting the head. horton should have had his head up, especialy when he knows hes entering the zone.

and now for the late issue. the problem is that theres no set line for this other than "56.5 Game Misconduct Penalty – When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed." so yes. the reff made the right call by the rules. i just dont agree with it. the hit was made about .7 seconds after the puck left his stick. there are large hits in the corners made easily more than a second after the puck has left that player. the only difference is that horton wasnt aware of rome coming to hit him. rome was already moving laterally to make a physical play before horton dished the puck. for you idiots out there this means that BEFORE horton passed the puck rome has already decided to hit him. i think the real problem is the lack of ruling for this situation which will make it hard for the league to come up with a decision. there are no rules to base this off of interference-wise (unless im missing something which is possible). in my opinion the right call was made by the rulebook, i loved the hit, and i hated the result.

now id like someone to tell me why im wrong about any of this

That might be the funniest hockey GIF I've seen.
This thread has turned to shit. 4 pages in one day, almost exclusively about one hit? It was an ugly hit and shitty that Horton was hurt by it. People will have different opinions about it and will beat the topic to death (or already have).
I'm honestly just stoked that game 5 was forced, because that's the only game I won't be at work for and will be able to watch this series. Would be kinda nice if that was the final game too but I still think it'll go to 7.

it's basically arguing with other fans about the semantics of each rule that i find exciting... oh wait nvm that's everyone else in this thread.

as a goalie when someone is in your crease you can slash/hit/push all you want. its your area. when someone is in the crease it basically renders the goalie useless. it's always been that way that 4 sqaure feet is yours. it's always been that way

shut up. The Bruins just destroyed the Canucks and yet all the fans on here are still managing to be far less arrogant and "douchebagish" than all the Nucks and Canadian fans were after they one game 1 and 2 by the narrowest of margins. I swear most people in this thread have something against Boston fans for almost no reason. Its like your jealous or something that we have a successful sports town and you have a hockey team that occasionally makes the playoffs...

dude you cant call people out at the top of this page for "never playing hockey" and then ask why a goalie can check another player...
That was completely legal by thomas regardless of whether or not he was in the crease, the goalie is just another player on the ice and can check a player at his own discretion
That being said I don't advocate any bruins player going after Luongo like Klazo said...absolutely no need to do that especially to a great player like luongo

I thought that was a pretty perfect breakdown... Except imho I think Rome had every opportunity to not hit Horton, knew it would be late and did it ayways because he saw he wasn't looking. It only takes a fraction of a second to react (a full second is an eternity) and he easily could have dialed it back knowing he didn't have the puck. He wanted to fucing wail on him, plain as day. He's a great hockey player and I don't for a second think he didn't know what was happening or couldn't stop himself. I'm not an expert on what penalties should be instilled, but if they're not going to let the boys fight for concern of their safety they better make a statement about the concern to keep players healthy in the Playofffs/Cup as far as late hits like that are concerned too. I know you're a nucks fan, but you have to admit- if a Bruin landed that late and big of a hit on say one of the twins or Burrows, you'd be pissed and see it as retribution and want action taken...

But yeah, basically...

Toe drag by Raymond = OMFG so nasty!

Marchand's PK goal = holy shitbags did that just happen???

Torres' hit behind the net = WOWCH

Lapierre backing down to Lucic like a bitch and eating his words/actions = classic

Tim Thomas = Just amazing. The man is a ninja wrapped in a samurai encased in a lightning bolt. Unbelievable.

In the beginning, the Nucks looked so smooth, so fast- the passing was perfect, on point and man, they were MOVING on the ice last night- that was some fast play for sure. Luongo looked unbeatable until the Bs found the chink in his armor. Couldn't believe how dominant the Bs were after the Horton hit... It was really a dream come true to see them take back some respect from the Canucks, who were being arrogant pricks until the tables turned. Keeping them honest is all I could ever ask for. Rock the fuck on B's.

That was some great hockey, you have to admit... Some big hits, some big shots and some big numbers. This series just became a grudge match and it's only going to get better.

I literally crapped my pants when that happened...that was one of the dirtiest dangles i have seen, and honestly wouldnt even be upset if he scored there because it was that filthy

Unbelievable game, The Canucks were looking good too, in the beginning. After that hit on Horton happened something happened to the Bruins. They lost their nervousness and just began to play. I think it was the fact that they lost one of their best shooters and friends. It was an obvious change that took place, their passing and playmaking just began to flow and the opposite happened for the Canucks. I don't think they played out of anger i think they just started playing with reason.

Anyway Thomas played like the champion he is and Luongo fell apart. I have little doubt though that Luongo will recuperate and the Canucks will come back looking much different than game 3.

I have a good feeling about these next 4 games.

^ hockey is just wonderful. It's so much fun to watch and even better to play. next year my club team is going into D3 and we're al super stoked

It's official...Horton's done for the season with a severe concussion. let's hope for a speedy recovery. I don't want to see another Savard here.

coming from someone who's from boston and played hockey but doesnt really get caught up in rooting for a team too much, some of you vancouver fans are pretty hilarious. my favorites were "youve obviously never played hockey" and "it wasn't dirty, it was late"

lol gotta love the sedin dive after his twin gets demolished by thomas...wasnt even close to your face bro, why are you reacting like that?
Disgrace to the sport, you should be embarrassed vancouver fans...

/static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png

i mean, yeah, it's a somewhat ballsy move, but thomas had a few bruins and no other canucks around, and sedin was off balance and had a hand off his stick to try to catch the puck so he was pretty much asking for it.. chances of him hitting the puck in during all that are pretty small

but yeah it was a risky move

Is this your first game watching thomas? That check is literally the definition of his style
He is very aggressive, unorthodox and very physical...he loves game where players get in his crease because he gets a chance to bang bodies..he said 'it makes him feel apart of the game'
He is not a large goalie like luongo, price or rask..hes a relatively small guy and has to make up for it somewhere or players would pick him apart, he makes up for his size in his aggresive/flopping fish style of play

he's an aggressive goalie and there's no chance he's going to let Sedin drop the puck right in front of him and fire a shot that would have most likely been a goal. disrupt his chance as best you can, and like Ski the east said, that's exactly Tim Thomas' style.

cuz thomas is a beast.... and because he saw sedin with the puck in his hand. It would have been easy for sedin to drop it and take a quick shot. Thomas decided t body check him in order to knock him on his ass and prevent this from happening

thomas is a fuckin animal. love that guy omg. I honestly think thou they shoulda put Rask in for a bit to give thomas a rest. at 8-1 theres no need to keep your starter in. and anyway Rask is good enough to be a starter and couldve carried the team through the rest of the game

Rome suspended for 4 games. guess the league thought it was a dirty hit. still, rather have Horton than Rome out.
Horton was released from the hospital earlier today and is on the road to recovery. now lets win for Horton and Savard

Yeah Vancouver made out better on this exchange (in no way am I saying vanc fans/organization are happy to see horton hurt...)
but to trade a second rate defnesemen for a 20 minute, near the top of the team goal scorer and multiple game winner off....i too would much rather have horton on ice than have vanc lose rome

If I was Doug Wilson, I'd gladly loan you guys Jaime McGinn so he can throw Rome into the boards again for you guys... Just to piss off nucks fans again haha.

Def. a late hit, but Horton needs to keep his head up.

4 game suspension is fitting.

Ready for the next game, hope that hit doesn't galvanize Boston like how Chicago responded to Raffi's hit....but I imagine it will.

Hit didn't even look all that late to me really. I'd say it did look like he left his feet before he even hit him though. I'm a hockey noob though, does that even affect an open ice hit or is that more of a concern just for boarding??

Yeah I don't see boston letting them have the next one after that mess, no one wants to get roughed up and lose at home.

This series looks like it's gonna get messy for sure haha, can't wait for the rest.

Honestly can't even believe I'm still concerned with hockey this close to summer as I've never been a huge fan. I think the little pond hockey I played this winter gave me a whole new appreciation for the game.

dive? hahaha are you high? he wasnt expecting to get bumped, he was curling away leaning back so obviously when he gets bumped while already off balance hes gonna fall. ever been hit when you arent expecting it? your bodies relaxed and everything gets jarred. hortons a perfect example. obviously you wouldve stood ferrence up though

if Boston can have the neutral ice like they did last night.... game over.
on that Marchand short hand goal.... where was the pressure from the canucks... i loved seeing the bruins go through that D like a hot knife through butter. /static/images/flash_video_placeholder.png
but this next game oh shit. hype hype hype
and yes it was good to keep Thomas in .... never leave when you are on a heater.
and they should have pulled Lou.. after 5-1.. thats just me... i do not care how good you are... you gave up 8 goals.in a game. that will stick around in the smallest part of your mind.
but then again. im not a coach
game 4 baby. woooo.
