Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

man ive seen them live...they are sounds pretty bad right now, when i saw them they sound muucch better then this. but then again, its like -20 something in alberta so props for trying

Yeah the intermission concert doesn't work so well when it's freezing as FUCK out there, I do not envy Ms. Haines having to try to sound good in that. Given the circumstances they weren't bad.

Calgary figured out about halfway through that period that they were playing pond hockey and it worked out for them.

fucking eh. wake the fuck up montreal

please ATLEAST beat toronto thursday so that i something to say back when i go back to res and i have all the dusty leafs fans rush my room to chirp me for montreal's recent losses

Coming up from CT to see a habs game this saturday.. I hope the weather is nice in montreal. (even though it will be freezing and windy)

its ironic how you're telling him that right after you said the habs' performance in the past week are a sign that they wont make the playoffs. we're still close to boston bud so we still have a legit chance of finishing in at least 3rd place. just sayin bro...

Only call what I see bro! don't take it personally, i start shit even ever I can. Make this fun :) Others know from years past, part of good ole shit talkin hockey :)

lol im really curious as to why you think i took that shit personally, i know all about the chirping man, i was just counter-chirping

ah fuck you got me

We need like a NS pond hockey meetup..im serious...before it gets to warm!!!!!!! somewhere east coast(sorry!)

montreal has my vote. it cant be anywhere in the states cus my passport expired and i was too lazy and never got around to renewing that shit aha

This is why I LOVE western hockey. The parity is INSANE.
Anyone can knock off anyone, and the team who makes it to the finals is legitimiately deservant, seeing as they would have had 3 real tough matchups prior... and then have to play whats likely to be Philly, or Boston - both Just as tough as any west coast team.

Hockey is a shitshow this year and I cant wait for the playoffs. Its going to be INCREDIBLE!!!

The west could go any way. I love it, and hate it (as a 'Nucks fan I have to say it'll be a long way to even compete for the cup).

Holy shit was that a half assed compliment to the flyers from DingoSean. We must be doing well this year to be pulling some west coast respect.

Caught some of the game tonight on toyota flyers 610 am radio while at work. These 18 year old kids on park crew with me think I'm nuts cause I sit there with a hand held am/fm radio glued to my ear in the yurt. It feels old timey and cool though, plus the commentary is much better than you get on versus or whatever.

Sounded like boucher did some serious work. Way to go carcillo gettin another, and versteeg for pickin up his first even if it was an empty net. And holy shit a whole flyers game without a single penalty????? and carcillo was in the lineup??? I don't believe it.

I have little regard for the Flyers so long as their starting goalie is named "Bobrovsky". What the fuck is that? Talk about looking at Phi, Chi and Det and taking the "oh we don't need an elite GK" trend too damned far. If I were a western team entering the finals I would be much more afraid of Boston or even TB with a vet like Rollie between the pipes. Real talk.

Re: the 2 months to play, there are 22 or so games left, or roughly 1/4 of the sched. If it's early enough for these teams to worry about fighting for a spot it's early enough to consider who each playoff berth lock (of which there are only Van and Det in the west) might be playing.

Haha. Not half assed. I honestly believe, now that the Pens are pretty much fucked with injuries, and the Caps are playing more around they way they should, that only the Flyers and Boston really have what it takes to beat a western team straight up. They're physical, Theyre defensive, and they are acting like their 1970's selves. (Plus Carle and Boucher = the dankest, and I just love Boston's whole team)
Montreal and Tampa both are very solid too, but I dont think Montreal is going to Halak their way through again this season, and Tampa I'm still not convinced is ready to go the distance against your more physical clubs (although.. ha. They sure have the talent with Vincent, Steven, and St. Louis to make any defense bow to their will).
For the third year in a row, I'm hoping for a San Jose - Boston matchup.
3 Reasons.
1. Totally even, fun, and exciting matchup from both coasts.2. Boston = TV viewers like whoaaa.3. Joe Thornton.4. So many Canadians in the lineups...5. BRING IT ON BOSTON... PAYBACK'S GONNA BE A BITCH (I'm referring to the A's vs Redsox playoff series', and the 2004 Snowbowl (tuck rule game) - It was a fumble. lol)

Bobrovsky is for real dude. He's only like 22, but the kid knows whats up (though, he doesnt know english - which reminds me of Nabokov and Khabibulin when they entered the league)

That, and Boucher is still a pretty solid goaltender. He's not elite but he did awesome for them last year during the playoffs before he got injured.

It's called the playoffs motherfucker.

Different.

Ball.

Game.

I would not want to be a fan of a team in 1st in the conference going into a postseason with a goalie with 0 playoff games under his belt. It's fine if you're LA or Atlanta who are sort of building towards something but not so much if you're hoping to contend.

lol i understand that.
But Look who was the winning goaltender last season. Look who was the hottest goaltender in the playoffs last year. Its not like Niemi or Halak were exactly 'seasoned'.. and Niemi was technically a rookie.
Neither was Roy in 86, or Cam Ward just a few years ago.
I wont mention Dryden as a rookie, because the 60's were nothing like the NHL as it is known today, but I wouldnt put it behind a guy like Bobrovski, with all the talented defense he has in front of him to take the flyers deep, if not all the way in the same way as the aformentioned... Hell.. a guy named Michael Leighton who's now in the AHL is the goalie who lead them to the finals last year... and the Flyers are better this season in my opinion...

I kinda agree with JD. While bob is a fantastic rookie and definitely has potential, he still makes me nervous.

We'll see how our goalies step up in the playoffs.

just wanted to point out to him that yes, a goalie with 0 post season experience isn't so promising.

And a D core without post season experience isn't so promising either.

Injuries...Nucks better be careful..they already have a target on their backs and closer to the post season, teams will/have been taking runs at certain players.

Everyone will be back in time for postseason and we'll still be in first. Meantime, some young guys get valuable NHL experience. They haven't been terrible for the most part, if you'd had any of Sauve, Tanev or Oberg as your 6th D-man with the rest of the corps being as it usually is it'd actually be fine. Oberg has been super impressive. But yeah, going in like this would probably be a recipe for a 1st or 2nd round exit.

**chirp chirp** Just wait till the bandwagoners start jumping in on this thread since post season is coming. Us regulars will just have to sit back and laugh.

trade dead line soon? anyone have some opinions on some big moves being talked about?

Pens rumors are Alex Kovalev to the Pens. I dont know if I like it at all....but everyone else in Pittsburgh seems to think different. I just dont see the "fit" or the big "bounce back" everyone assumes he would have here.

the canucks depth at D is insane. Oberg, Sauve, Tanev have all stepped up and played pretty well, no glaring mistakes from the games ive seen.

the amazing thing is that Oberg is probably the lowest on the depth chart behind Tanev, Sauve and Connatoun(sp) plus we have Sweatt who isn't really a rookie but impressed before he got injured.

Even if all our D isn't back for the playoffs (Edler, who is the one guy i want back) i still have confidence in the guys we will have: Salo, Ehrhoff, Hamhuis, Ballard, Rome, maybe Bieksa and Alberts, plus the rookies. Thats still a solid defense core

and with our forward core we have the ability to win any game and shut down other teams.

but imo the biggest thing about this year is that IF Luongo dissapears again i have full confidence in Schneider to take over and i believe the coaches and management do too

havent really thought about that. When he is on his game, he is a beast. The other side is quite bad, reminds me of MAF a lot!

oh no doubt about that, and he's played really well this year and been a lot more consistent, the new coach has really been helping him a lot, i think its Roland or something.

And the fact he doesn't have to play as many games is a huge plus and hopefully he will be more rested come playoffs. I just want to see him in the form he played against Dallas in the first round matchup several years ago where both his and Turco's GAA were under 1 and they had the first game to quadraple or quintiple overtime, can't remember now

God, Can the playoffs just get here already???!?!?!?!

haha right after i posted that tsn feeds

Goligoski to Stars for James Neal & Matt Niskanen

great trade...gogo was primed up to be trade bait to begin with.

James Neal is a pretty decent player. Lots of potential and the ability to contribute offensively.I think the trade definitely favors Pittsburgh.

He is now the second player on the pens with more than 20 goals. And bylsma said hes going to pay him with staal. Gonna be a big line.
