Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

I dont get why Kovalchuk became as expensive as he did... he's an amazing goal scorer, but he's also not a 100 point guy...
I know he was in atlanta, but still.

Parise >> Kovi

and no that his contract is up NJ is screwed, no idea how they are gonna keep him

They have so many overpaid players: Elias(6) Rolston(5) Arnott(4.5)

oh and all this Canucks aren't going deep stuff is BS

with their current line-up they would either be out 1st or 2nd round but once they get their defenseman back from injuries they will be good and i EXPECT conference finals at the very least, this is the best Canucks team i have seen and consider them a cup fav and hope to "god" they win

Edler

Salo

Hamhuis

Ehrhoff

Bieksa

Ballard

with that on the back end how can u not be considered a contender

mcclean was a fuck up and could get hold of the room. prettty much 2 weeks after lemaire was back the devils started their current run.

LA wins, Anaheim loses, and the Pacific division is the closest it could ever possibly be...
2 points separating last and first. Talk about WTF.

I'm sorry... I effed up there. haha. I'll just put it in simple as fuck terms..
Phoenix: 69 pointsAnaheim: 68 pointsSan Jose: 68 pointsDallas: 68 pointsLos Angeles: 67 points.
Los Angeles is the only team without a current playoff spot.
They are one point out of a spot... behind Calgary, and has 3 games in hand on them.

It's official, the Canucks now have 6 defensemen out with injury. Including their number 1, 2, and 3 minute men and the best D-man on the team this year in Bieksa. Tonight's lineup looks like,

Christian Erhoff

Sami Salo**

Yann Sauve*

Aaron Rome***

Chris Tanev*

Evan Oberg*

*Rookie

**Just back from injury

***Career AHL'er

So we've got, count 'em, ONE defenseman who is capable of playing top 4 minutes in the NHL. ONE.

*****ahem**** to JD's post(good update wasnt aware it was that bad).

The hockey gods have rained on the Nucks, hoping it gets better for em. Hockey gods have the pens grabbing their ankles at the current moment as well. No idea how we are sitting in 3rd.

Why of why do the hockey gods hate Vancouver...Bieksa injured now, and my guess is that it will only be a matter of time till Salo is injured again.

thank god we have a big enough cushion to get us into the playoffs, just hope everyone is back in time for when the real hockey starts

Pens were in third when i posted that, now in fourth(aka Detroit just won 2 tonight).

Pens haters can hate, if we flopped from January until the post season(we are currently in a horrific nosedive with injuries), and still make it in the playoffs,

I will be pumped as fuck knowing that when we are healthy(did I mention that Staal, Sid & Geno never played together this year with talks of pulling players from the Wheeling Nailers, BELOW AHL), we can win enough throw away about half the season. And still potentially playoffs.

Hope Sid sits the rest of the season. Ali/Lindros/Primeau are all the evidence I need to think that. Fortunately we know enough about concussions now.

Just thinking as a longer term fan! Fucking interesting NHL year for everyone!

no doubt, I like the Nucks, I do not like the Nuck fans going "STANLEY CUP HERE WE COME". This just doesnt fly in February with the "hockey gods". Hope everyone gets healthy asap and Nuck fans mellow out with the cockiness. Good things come to the modest.

You realize that the league overall standings mean absolutely nothing, that you are fourth in your conference and have basically zero chance of finishing higher than that, right?

Re: Canucks D, right now the Canucks' injury reserve list has better defensive depth than half of the teams in the league...

thats what im trying to tell you bro, its fuckin impossible for the pens to be in 3rd as long as the flyers are ahead of them, division leaders automatically get top spots

and fuckin stupid game tonight, those 2 edmonton goals in 15 seconds killed us. edmonton is gonna be fuckin diiiirtyyy in a few years

luckily ballard and hamhuis should be back by next week apparently

but idk why ehrhoff is playing almost 30 minutes and rome is playing 20....they played terrible tonight. tanev has looked a lot better and sauve has looked fine

Been working hard the past two days in -18 degree Celsius weather setting up the 3D part of the Heritage Classic that takes place this weekend. Flames vs. Habs.

You guys better watch and enjoy.

Metric and Tokyo Police Club are playing too

good.

I mean, besides the sold out stadium. I'm glad someone out there will be enjoying it.

I'm hoping to be positioned on the field for Sunday.

^ was just about to post that. It's almost a little surprising that it's actually happened only because each year goes by and the same thing happens. But this year it was more serious than ever.

Yes we will be broadcasting the concert.

I'm pretty sure I got the lucky spot of being TVA (cable guy for camera guy) for the concert part.

OOO! and there is pyrotechnics too.

I'm excited to see this game

my 2nd NHL game ever.

It was close, Flyers put their rally caps on and came back from 2-0 to 2-2. Bob stood on his head tonight it could've easily been 4-2. Then again, so did Cam Ward.

I almost feel bad for you Sean, to see so many productive seasons end in the first/second round is tough.

*I tease*

Go for it. we only lost to the cup winners last year like everyone else did... and we crushed Detroit on our way to doing so
Only a matter of time till a cup makes its way down Santa Clara Blvd... Especially if San Jose continues slaughtering like they have the last month...

By the way. I LOVE the Addition of Ian White. Talented, Young, Affordable, and has yet to play on a team with really solid offensive players... And we only had to give up Joslin and a bottom end- first round pick for him.
Doug Wilson, winning again...

since my black hawks have gone to shit.... i will get behind the sharks.... even though Vancouver is closer..... i just cant bring my self to rooting for them.......

but my WHL wInterhawks are killing it right now....

How funny would it be if the Canucks did what the Caps and Sharks did the last 2 years and fuck off after the first round lol.
With the parity in the Pacific, I wouldnt put it behind them to screw up.

Seeing as St. Louis just raped the shit out of Anaheim while using said players...
I'd say, as it is right now, probably true...

Canucks put on an absolute clinic last night in the 3rd, unbelievably impressive with essentially no defensemen. Actually Evan Oberg was probably our best D-man in his 2nd game of the season.

-10 celsius in Calgary for the Heritage Classic game and bright and sunny. It's a perfect day for an outdoor hockey game really, much better than the rain and crap that plagued the Winter Classic.

On an unrelated note, every time I watch the flames recently (which is rarely) I am amused by the fact that their first line centre got cut from the Canucks at the beginning of the season. Yes, the guy who is playing the most important position on your team other than "goaltender" tried out for our 4th line, and couldn't make our team.

How do the fans have anything to do with it. Anyway right now I'm just hoping that we don't have to play Calgary in the first round because that would be a no-win situation for me since I work in Calgary.

What is the ideal situation for Canucks fans right now? There are currently like 9 teams that could legitimately finish 8th.

Phoenix: Have a good team concept and a goalie who can steal games. In other words, recipe for first round upset. Bad matchup.

San Jose: Actually an elite team that hasn't had a great season, if they play well they are almost as good a team top to bottom as the 'Nucks. Bad matchup.

Nashville: Same thing as Phoenix, good team defense, good coaching, good goalie, and they just beat us. They have one of the best D-men in the league and their top 2 can legitimately shut down an elite top line. Recipe for disaster. Bad matchup.

Minnesota: Probably the worst team in the playoff picture right now, but for some reason, our Kryptonite. Nucks are something like 1-5 recently in games in Minnesota. Bad matchup.

Dallas: Led the Pacific for most of the season, have one of the elite forwards in the league in Richards and the fact he's hurt is probably the main reason they're not in 3rd right now. Lots of veteran leadership and playoff acumen. Bad matchup.

LA: Fast, talented young team with an elite top D-man in Doughty plus Willie, who knows how to shut down our guys. Also, scoring depth and a goalie prone to going on hot streaks. More experience and they'd be built to go deep, as it is, they're built for a streak of 6 good games and an upset. Plus they're looking for revenge. Bad matchup.

Anaheim: If there's a criticism of Van, it's that our D-men are not as big and tough as they were when Mitchell was the anchor. These guys are big and their top line is, for my money, one of the best in the league, they're basically unstoppable. Jonas Hiller deserves a playoff series. Bad matchup.

Calgary: Other than Minnie, probably the other "worst team" to have a chance to end up in 8th... Yeah because playing a team that's getting hot down the home stretch is exactly what you want. They're getting scoring from everywhere, somewhat miraculously. Good goalie, veteran leadership, solid d-core. Bad matchup.

Chicago: Do I even need to say it? Terrible matchup.

So yeah, no real good options. I guess if I had to pick a team to play it'd be Minnesota or maybe Phoenix. Parity is here ladies and gentlemen.
