How do the fans have anything to do with it. Anyway right now I'm just hoping that we don't have to play Calgary in the first round because that would be a no-win situation for me since I work in Calgary.
What is the ideal situation for Canucks fans right now? There are currently like 9 teams that could legitimately finish 8th.
Phoenix: Have a good team concept and a goalie who can steal games. In other words, recipe for first round upset. Bad matchup.
San Jose: Actually an elite team that hasn't had a great season, if they play well they are almost as good a team top to bottom as the 'Nucks. Bad matchup.
Nashville: Same thing as Phoenix, good team defense, good coaching, good goalie, and they just beat us. They have one of the best D-men in the league and their top 2 can legitimately shut down an elite top line. Recipe for disaster. Bad matchup.
Minnesota: Probably the worst team in the playoff picture right now, but for some reason, our Kryptonite. Nucks are something like 1-5 recently in games in Minnesota. Bad matchup.
Dallas: Led the Pacific for most of the season, have one of the elite forwards in the league in Richards and the fact he's hurt is probably the main reason they're not in 3rd right now. Lots of veteran leadership and playoff acumen. Bad matchup.
LA: Fast, talented young team with an elite top D-man in Doughty plus Willie, who knows how to shut down our guys. Also, scoring depth and a goalie prone to going on hot streaks. More experience and they'd be built to go deep, as it is, they're built for a streak of 6 good games and an upset. Plus they're looking for revenge. Bad matchup.
Anaheim: If there's a criticism of Van, it's that our D-men are not as big and tough as they were when Mitchell was the anchor. These guys are big and their top line is, for my money, one of the best in the league, they're basically unstoppable. Jonas Hiller deserves a playoff series. Bad matchup.
Calgary: Other than Minnie, probably the other "worst team" to have a chance to end up in 8th... Yeah because playing a team that's getting hot down the home stretch is exactly what you want. They're getting scoring from everywhere, somewhat miraculously. Good goalie, veteran leadership, solid d-core. Bad matchup.
Chicago: Do I even need to say it? Terrible matchup.
So yeah, no real good options. I guess if I had to pick a team to play it'd be Minnesota or maybe Phoenix. Parity is here ladies and gentlemen.
