Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

I treat them like a team that hasnt made it past the 1st rd of the playoffs since 1992.

Any fans like you, bring up 25 year old cup wins, but have no idea of anything else(7 playoff appearances since 1993..right buddy? Your a fucking joke)

Are you still bedazzled as to why the Islanders(and large parts of the fan base) are the fucking butthole of the NHL?

I am going from the end of the 93/94 season, which I stated from the very beginning..notice i used the word *since*.

Even with the gray area year...its 5. We are both retarded.

Ask any GM in the league and they will tell you they would never hold a player in the AHL if him being in the NHL would make the NHL team better. It's the show. You put the best team you can on the ice with the players in the organization, period.

the thing about haley is he has never been projected to be a top six guy. he is and will always be a 3rd or 4th liner. right now there was not a need to have him up on the islander. especially with matt martin around who is a similar style player that is younger and more promise.

i dont have much trust in garth snow but he may have made a mistake keeping Haley in the minors all season.

the simple fact is despite what his actions were the other night he is not a goon. the only goons on the ice on friday night were gillies and godard.

eh in a sense.

But its the Islanders, they need/have needed a bit of help. Too hold him in the AHL while the NHL side is lacking, I dont think other struggling organizations would do that.

Now, for a current NHL team doing pretty good, developing in the AHL until needed is of course, wonderful.

i find it kinda weird that they traded him for the 1st round pick of a team who will most likely finish in 1st.

and forsberg is back out, probably for good this time. if not, then he's just favre'ing it up

Im surprised they traded him, doesn't show a good image on Burke's part. Signs a free agent and they don't even get a full season in before they traded away again. Yeah and their pick is gonna be late late first round, probably 29th.

I feel bad for Forsberg, he tried so hard to come back and it didn't work it. Pretty sure he's done for good now.

flyers are the team to beat by far in my opinion. unless vancouver trades for some reliable to decent D men. flyers are the favorites in the playoffs.

also,

I don't get the moves Burke is making, make no sense.

i said when he first went to TO he would not save that franchise and so far its completely true.

tries to rebuild fast by trading away 2 first rounders for Kessel and then to bring in older players with none of them having the ability to really improve the team.

now he's realized he fucked up and is trying to get some picks and rebuild the right way.

The Beauchemin(sp) trade didn't improve their team, traded away one of their best defenseman for Lupul who will not help them and a prospect that they will probably rush into the NHL

then the first round pick he actually gets for Versteeg is proabably going to be either 29 or 30 meaning they won't be getting a star player

then for some reason, that i cant figure out for the life of me who goes and traded for Voros. Makes no sense

/end rant

How do you figure this. I don't understand where people are coming from with this stuff. SJ has, every year, been heavily favoured to dominate in the playoffs and completely disappointed. When, until this year, has that been the case for the Canucks? Last year we lost to the eventual cup champs who were favoured to beat us, and the year before, lost a fairly hard fought coin-flip of a six game series to a hawks team that was damned good; it wasn't like it was some big upset no one could've seen coming. Every year prior to that we weren't even legitimate contenders, at best outside-chance dark horse candidates for cup-dom, so no surprise that we didn't take it in the end.

I don't get it.

Over the past 5 years, here is the Canucks' playoff situation.

2006 - Predicted not to make playoffs. Didn't make playoffs.

2007 - Were predicted to miss playoffs, won NWD (3), lost to Anaheim (2) (eventual champs) in 2nd round.

2008 - Predicted to challenge for division. Didn't make playoffs.

2009 - Won NWD (3), Lost to Chi (5) in 2nd round.

2010 - Won NWD (3), Lost to Chi (2) (eventual champs) in 2nd round.

2011 - Favoured to go deep.

i lol'd at this sentence in the tsn article: "In 12 games with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL this season, Voros has no points and 43 minutes in penalties."

I wish the pens never traded away Biz Nasty, dudes is so fucking funny and pretty dam good goon.

Flyers ARE the team to beat, IMO.

**Gillies Hate**(Not islanders!)

Notice how Biz stopped landing punches after Gillies hit the ice?

Notice how Biz didnt stand in the box screaming at him to "get up you pussy"?

Notice how Biz actually is somewhat concerned in the box after he finds out it was the back of him head?

Notice how shit like that doesnt even happen in the minors?

utter garbage....

gillies took care of biz nasty this season.

i dont really like gillies. hes funny and he is a decent to good heavyweight . but i rather him sit in the press box most of the time. dude cant play hockey.

and i am not condoning what gillies did on friday night but in the heat of the moment when you go in to hit some one and you end up on the ground you are pissed. he had no clue tangradi was hurt, what he did just instinctual, and he is definelty not the only player in the NHL would have done something like that.

nah Biz wasn't having head twitches like the tourettes guy, blood gushing from a gaping wound on the back of his head, nor did he need team mates to carry him off the ice.

Biz wins.

shiiit the leafs are beating the bruins, keep it up boys. i fuckin hate the bruins, whereas i dont hate the leafs, i just like laughing at them, if they were good too i'd be pumped

waiting Sunday-Wedneday kills me

whats everyone else think about the Forsberg shit?

imo, fucking quitter...and his jerseys will be buried in the back of my closet for sometime.

follow his twitter or facebook....outta control historical. Same with some interviews.

This is his twitter profile:

"Play in the NHL for the Phoenix Coyotes. Was Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby's linemate for 8 seconds once. I didn't touch the puck. Weird."

He doesnt really take the NHL seriously and its pretty amazing haha.

Jesus... Rinne is a fucking god... sharks had shots from every concievable angle tonight and finally got the win in the bottom half of OT on a HEADS UP PASS from the OFFENSIVE FORCE (lol) that Huskins is to OH CAPTAIN MY CAPTAIN, Patrick Marleau for the break away goal.

And now the stars lose tonight, leaving the pacific division once again with 2 wins separating last and first, and 3 teams tied with 68 a piece.
Pretty much impossible to find out whos going to win that right now...

I didnt know it was drew doughty till i looked at the photo link.
Kings could take it... but I have a feeling it aint happening. Give them a year or two and yes... this year, i still feel theyre too young.

Yeah... but most of the western teams have lots of talent coming up...
Look at the sharks... All of a sudden logan couture comes out and blows up.
What really matters is if the kings can afford to keep their guys like the Sharks have been able to do - either keep their prospects, turn them into great players, and sell them for equal/better, or sign them for years.
With all the kings' talent, it will be hard to do that, and they'll have to be smart with some trades. They were really smart for not going after Kovalchuk in the offseason... they'd have been ultra strapped for cap space in a year or two.

That said, they lack experience, and dont have much veteran leadership, so we shall see how they do...

Doughty is a leader already, Dustin Brown is one of the best lead-by-example players in the NHL and one of the top 5 guys I would want on my team, and they have Michael Handzus, Ryan Smyth and Jarrett Stoll to provide veteran leadership, not to mention the addition of Willie Mitchell this year. They're fine for leadership. It's up to Quick to be consistent and if he is, I like them to oust someone from the playoff picture. They're 7-1-2 over their last 10 games. 1 point out of 8th with 3 games in hand... Not a bad spot. Once the Flames suddenly figure out that they suck and the hot streak comes to an end they're done. Nashville has also gone cold recently.

lol wtf? quitter? i'd rather see him quit because he realizes he cant play to his full potential anymore than sticking around for fuckin 73 years and sucking major balls like chelios or something

Kings are going to make the playoffs. My guess is that they'll be out before the western conference finals though.

I see you point!

If he woulda just spent a week at practice/off-ice training...he would have realized he didnt have it then.

Gotta be a man and live up to your commitment to your team/management/fans. Is it really that hard with the kind of money he would make?

Also I think you should have more respect for them, considering its before playoffs, and you ran that organization through that drama. Unacceptable from such a veteran with his amazing history.

Stupid move on his part. Should have just left it alone and retired unblemished.

Lol. Handzus? c'mon... I thought 'MAYBE Smyth' but he doesnt even have a letter on his sweater, so that just tells me how much the kings think of his leadership...

either way... they're going to have to rely on youth, speed, and health to go deep in the playoffs... and in this current NHL situation, I dont see that taking them past the 2nd round again.
They'll be downright unstoppable in a few years though if they can keep that talent around..
