Official 2010/2011 NHL Thread

I dont think it's that biased at all... you're just focusing on the negatives against boston...
I thought the same at first when Vancouver was playing the Sharks... then I realized, I was just realizing it wasn't as biased towards the Sharks as it would be on Comcast, and this seemed too favourable for Vancouver to me.
Just do this if you really need to - Turn down the volume, and watch it with the Bruins radio on if you want pro-Bruins action

yeah he's also such a well spoken nice guy if you've ever heard him in an interview.

Let's not forget that he's 'merican too

fuck. im so sick of the head snapping back and the little dives everywhere. dont say its just van because it was boston too. not getting into the who dives more argument but i feel like next year the league needs to do something about it. the reffs should start calling it everytime they think they see a high stick or a trip and the league needs to review the questionable ones after and just start fining (fine-ing sp?) guys. everytime theyre caught 5 percent of the salary gone. guy gets caught a couple times and theyre suddenly only getting 80 percent of what they should be. whether this will work or not i donno but they need to try something

Trying to scoring on Thomas is like trying to score through a brick wall (that hits you back).
Canucks just didn't look like they wanted the Cup, or to even be playing hockey tonight. They need to wake up, I have always questioned Vigneault's ability to give the team the motivation they need when they're down like this. Let's get the puck moving side to side, stop shooting from the high slot or point and start taking it toward the net, then passing off to someone else who is charging the net. It's the only way we'll beat Thomas. Hard to focus on any of the good things the Canucks have done tonight after the two losses, but there were certainly times when the Sedins looked dangerous. I'll go over it in the morning.
Anyway. 4am here, I'm off to bed.

Fuck next year, they just need to call an embellishment penalty at least ONE time to make the message be heard that that kinda thing wont fucking be tolerated... or at least warn of it before the next game so guys dont think its just not going to get called going into the fray...
I'm so sick of seeing this pussy ass play from both teams. That's not hockey. That's pussy italian soccer...

I 100% agree with this. I've noticed it periodically over the course of this whole season too it hasn't just been the playoffs.

They really need to make a major move to get it out of hockey cause no one wants diving to creep into hockey like it has in soccer. You can't necessary rely on the refs for this either, the league should review cases of diving or major embellishment and hand out fines or something cause it's getting ridiculous.

nothing to do with this series or vancouver. burrows would be one of the most effected people. and to bar-down why not? theyve fined people on the odd dive in the past. they just need to make it a standard

Now let's turn our discussion to Burrows slashing thomas's stick and then Thomas almost breaking his leg. That looked ugly in slow mo, if burrows went down, I would have thought it was broken.

I loved it...Thomas doesn't instigate, but he can demolish you if you fuck with him. Burrows is a clown...he's a classless pussy, he deserved the slash, then he deserved the takedown.

Dont make it standard.. because honestly some guys react to that stuff and snap their head backs because they DO anticipate a stick to the face...
but other time's its just flat out obvious they are milking the cow...
Just make it so it's a harsh enough penalty that it discourages it to the max.

GET EM LUANGO.

Oh, I know it's not just these guys overall... obviously... but seeing it so prevalently in the finals is disgusting and bad for hockey in what should be one of the best match-ups in NHL history as far as a finals is concerned.

usually in this situation i would be absoultely pissed, but for some reason i find myself somewhat calm... very strange.

probably because the score doesn't really represent the game that just happened. Once again Vancouver starts out strong and has a really good first period, Thomas played well and Vancouver comes out 1 goal down. Then once again another awful 2nd period defensively and they are out of the game. The Canucks did not get outplayed, just some bad defensive breakdowns and a few lucky bounces for Boston.

1st goal - Edler mis-timed his play and Torres backed him up horribly, Salo also out of position.

2nd goal - Salo gave him way to much time, then he has to either get in the shooting lane or get out of it, not just put his stick there.

3rd goal - Ballard makes a bad play behind the net then gets tied up with Sedin and the puck finds its way to the front of the net where Luongo really has no chance

4th goal - just pure luck

People are gonna hate on Luongo for last game and tonights but he really couldn't do too much. Im really debating about who i want to see in net next game. I love Schneids to death, always looks so calm and composed out there but Luongo has shown he can play, gonna be a tough call.

Its really obvious though how much we miss Hamhuis, really just screws up our defensive pairings. I'd like to see Ballard out and Tanev in. Ballard just has not impressed, looked sloppy all night.

Someone though has to step in the Vancouver locker-room and just rip this team, they haven't been playing their game at all, gotta start by getting their legs again, start skating and use their speed and get some fucking traffic in front of Thomas, life is way too easy for him right now.

Also have to get the PP going, has looked horendous this series, just go back to the basics, get it to the point with traffic in front and shoot the puck and get those 2nd and 3rd chances.

Anyways, Vancouver has go to step up and use the home-ice. Its now a best of 3 and we got 2 games at home. Still a long way to go in this series.

haha this made ma LOL hardcore
Pull luongo you DUCKS hahaha
what up canuckss you getting nervous? 1 goal in the last 2 games
My entire facebook has there status as one thing so i might as well post it here.
"In Thomas we trust"
i had it as "in Luongo we thrive" but then he got pulled... roflcopterz

you better hope they start schnieder... not because Luongo won't perform in game 5, he might. But because the Bruins know they can manhandle him. They have so much confidence when Luongo is in net its unhealthy for the Nucks.

Not the way my coinflip said it would be, but after 4, it was still 2-2.
Boston needs the next 2 to make it work though ha.

yea yea i know but im just saying. start penalizing guys off the ice for it. its impossible to see it on the ice because the reffs cant be at the perfect angle to see it everytime so the league needs to do something

hate to break it to you but 80%(made up stat) of NHL goals can be credited to defensive breakdowns, lucky bounces, and bad breaks.

Whoever starts ill be happy with, however if Luongo lets in 2 goals early or weak ones and we are down 2-0 id switch it up. Keep him on short leash

exactly. right now hockey is arguably the most popular sport that the general public can watch and this just makes it look bad. i know that everyone wants to do everything to help their team win but it cant be at the point of making the game look bad

After what we saw tonight I'm not really sure how any canucks fan can try to justify their teams play.... Don't get me wrong the Bruins play dirty, but Burrows is already in over his head and he just made us remember why.

I know lots of goals result from breakdowns, it just seems that right now every breakdown from Vancouver is ending up in their net.

I'm trying to keep a positive outlook on these past view games and see it as: Boston isn't winning these games, Vancouver is losing them. Vancouver is making Boston look a lot better then they actually are and if they can limit their mistakes and actually play for a full 60 min they'll be fine.

i feel like this is the typical thought process of someone who does not understand how boston plays/wins games. yes, boston does not have the most technically skilled players, but playing to win and playing with heart will win games, and draw mistakes from the opposing team. i don't really know how you can't give boston credit for annihilating vancouver in both of these games.

Horton in the locker room at the end of the game to present team jacket. Says volumes to this team. Jacket goes to peverley tonight. Ive said it all along...I love this team. Also mcquaid and Marchand getting in a fight tonight? Daaamn boys

I honestly feel bad for Luongo, but I think the Nucks just need a fresh start. Schneider is a great goalie and I think he's what they need now thats its a 3 game series. I'm really excited to see who starts.
PS great news the games on friday!!!

I know exactly how Boston plays, and its not that im not giving them any credit, but Boston did not annihilate Vancouver these 2 games. The score is showing one thing, but the play is showing another.

I'll give it to ya, the Bruins got a couple lucky goals today. Somehow Thomas prevents the flukes that Luongo lets in. (knock on wood) I can't believe he shut them out... How many shots did the Nucks have? 40+? I missed the last 5 min of the game but jesus Thomas really is a beast.
He's transitioned from standup to Butterfly magnificently... Do people call it hybrid? it's unreal.

pretty funny stuff these last couple of games. nucks fans still refuse to shut up though, i don't think they realize their team just lost 2 games horribly.

While the score might be a little exaggerated in regards to the play, the bruins have outplayed the nucks pretty badly in the past two games. Making mistakes is part of a teams play and the nucks have had a lot of breakdowns that led to goals.

Are you fucked in the head? With Don Cherry running the show CBC doesn't give a fuck about any team other than Torana and Bastaaan.

... but they did outplay vancouver; besides the first period, the bruins kept constant pressure and systematically broke the canucks down and the game progressed. it's clear that vancouver isn't playing to their full potential, and the bruins were able to exploit that, i don't see how the canucks really stood up to the battering that they received.

It's pretty much his own style, the closest thing to is it is Hasek's style. Flop around a lot but somehow always seem to be in the position to make the save. Relies heavily on his athletic ability, flexibility and ability to read the play.

I will say Boston's D compliment hiim well, they know he plays aggressive so they try to cut off the passing lanes so

thomas doesn't have to worry about them as much. Vancouver just has to shoot the puck and hope for some 2nd and 3rd chances, they are there, they just can't get to them at the moment.
