Occupy Wall Street

On September 17, 2011 approximately 15,000 peaceful demonstrators in dozens of cities around the USA gathered, marched - and occupied public space to protest the unjust policies of the US government and the corruption in our financial institutions. The central protest site was in the financial district of New York City, where peaceful protesters faced phalanxes of heavily armed paramilitary police officers from local and federal jurisdictions. The arrests began almost immediately, many for violating the 1845 so called "mask" laws.

Later that day, and according to plan - many of these protests ended with a peaceful occupation of public space. Again, the central occupation occurred in NYC. More arrests continued to take place. All of this was expected, it is part of progressive activism. Anonymous was content to challenge these stupid "mask" laws in court. Not only is the Guy Fawlkes mask covered under freedom expression as a symbol of our movement, but we believe that everyone has a right to protest anonymously using bandanas, masks - etc.

But then on Tuesday - September 20, 2011 everything changed in a flash of police instigated violence. As rain began to fall on the NYC encampment, heavily armed police moved in; Removing tarps used to cover media equipment, arresting independent journalists, confiscating media equipment - and using excessive force against and arresting innocent peaceful protesters, several of whom were abused and injured.

This year, we heard President Barack Obama and Secretary Hillary Clinton say over and over in country after country from the Balkans through the mid-east to Africa that the right to peacefully protest and occupy public space is a right that MUST be respected in every instance. And they are correct, and this also applies to the USA. In fact, even more so. In the USA of all countries in the world, the police should have been deployed to PROTECT the protesters - not a giant brass bull that is the ultimate symbol of greed and corruption in America. And yet we were treated to the grotesque picture of dozens of armored police surrounding this brass bull, while thousands more police were deployed solely to harass, arrest - and abuse peaceful protesters.

Anonymous & the other cyber liberation groups around the world together with all the freedom loving people in the USA will NOT stand for this. We will peacefully yet forcefully resist the abuses of the NYC Police Department. And so Anonymous announces a nationwide "Day Of Vengence" to take place in dozens of cities across the USA on Saturday - September 24, 2011 at High Noon.

In coordination with these protests across the USA on September 24th, Anonymous and other cyber liberation groups will launch a series of cyber attacks against various targets including Wall Street, Corrupt Banking Institutions - and the NYC Police Department. We encourage the media to follow the Twitter feed @PLF2012 for ongoing reports throughout the day.

We Are Anonymous - We Are Everywhere - We Are Legion - We Never Forget - We Never Forgive

EXPECT US -- Anonymous

Its a pretty badass idea, this past week has been wild down there. Its sad that thousands of protesters in NYC get no main stream media attention. Its even sader a few days ago one of the only online sources for coverage of it was aljazeera.

Whoever wrote this is a complete fucking idiot that needs to sac the hell up and get with the program. You don't like "Wall Street"? Boo hoo. Honestly, if you're going to write some kind of declaration against the establishment, at least be more original. Do these hippies really think they're the first ones to read Fight Club? You know why there's no media attention? BECAUSE NOBODY CARES. Have fun running around pointlessly hiding your identity while Wall Street and the rest of the world leaves you in the dust.

too bad wall street just very well might become "dust" haha not a good day for the world economy...

Its not going anywhere in the near future. People get way too caught up in the times. I guarantee you 99% of those "protesters" know nothing about economics, accounting, stocks, politics, etc.

Anonymous is now a bunch of do-good 15 year-old script kiddies spearheaded by tiny few with actual programming skills. The whole Scientology scuffle a few years ago really divided them internally, and the anonymous you hear about now is far from the faceless army of cyber criminals upon which their reputation is built. And launching "cyber attacks" against Wall St. corporations (aka DDOSing Bloomberg for a few hours)? Just what the economy needs. These people piss me off, because they've started to take the old joke seriously: "The internet is serious business". They need to learn how to have fun again.

InB4 I get spammed with pizzas/newschoolers gets DDOS'ed

Ok how about this...Almost every state has some sort of non-profit "economic fairness" organization that promotes transparency and ethics within the business community. You want to affect change? Go join one of those and actually do something. But hey, running around with a bandanna on yelling at the police for shutting down your worthless protest looks a lot more bad ass right?

this is a sad sad story. from what i have read, its a couple hipsters who think its cool to protest, so they go much it up on wall street to protest "corporate greed". why not just head on over to the spca and protest dogs and cats? youll get the same result in the end.

Canada needs to sack up and tell the US to back off.

http://greenparty.ca/en/node/19187

At least Elizabeth May and the Canadian Green Party bring a viable and solid alternative solution to the anti-KeystoneXL pipeline discussion..."value added processing*" is something Canada continuously short sells itself on (ex. lumber). Apparently the environmental and moral reasons to oppose this development are not worth it in the minds of of financially focused Canadians but this alternative binds two sides of the same coin. They can no longer realistically oppose the anti-keystoneXL movement because of the creation of jobs and wealth in Canada by processing the bitumen here instead of shipping it away is a no brainer; a smarter solution for Canadian citizens and our national economy, win-win! Long term, stable jobs would be created by processing it in Canada instead of short-term, unreliable construction jobs that would be created by building our small segment of the pipe.

At least someone is using their heads in Ottawa.

*value added processing means to develop raw forms of materials into higher value goods and exporting the high value goods instead of the raw materials (which we end up buying the high value goods back from you which is retarded).

This is eh. I respect them for doing something but I cringe every time I read their website and blog updates. I question both their planning and their execution of this protest.

^This, seems like no really seems educated as to what is being protested. Some are there for corporations lobbying government, some for Troy Davis's execution and some unemployment/bailouts. If there was some organization people would take them more seriously.

I feel like the protest was set up not to protest the economy and all that jizzfest, but just to make a point, that the right to occupy public space and protest peacefully wasn't being respected by the gov't or some. Yes? You like?

hahahahaha.

but seriously a good friend of mine is currently there "occupying" it now. fucking america, crack down on these dumb SOB's.

some of my friends from school are taking classes this semester in nyc and live on wall street. The building with their offices are right across the street from their apartment but they have to walk down the entire street and back up it cause it's all blocked off and no one is allowed to just go straight across it. very inconvenient

These people work 100+ hours a week and work in the most stressful environment in the civilian world, if these protesters knew shit about these people they would realize they are dealing with emotionless machines that could give a shit about their opinion.

Regardless of the effectiveness of their protests, anyone suggesting that they shouldn't be allowed to protest and/or should be forceably removed by the police are dumb cunts.Sure, organized protests do little to nothing to change anything, but at least it is generating some awareness for a cause (however vague and perhaps naive it may be).

I don't really see anyone saying (save for a few) remove them because they are protesting. They are saying remove them because they are being inconsiderate and are inconveniencing people that live in the area that have nothing to do with their little "anti capitalism even though I buy and use my Apple iPhone and wear my Dockers hipster pants" naive bullshit.

Hey...are you that one guys roommate? With ponies all over the wall? How are the ponies doing?

Meh, they have a right to protest.

I don't believe their message is "fuck capitalism", i think (not that i have looked into it much or anything) that they are protesting corporate greed/greed of traders etc.

One of the options one could vote for on their website to protest about was:

"Shitcan this capitalism shit" (I am paraphrasing)

A lot of traders (depending on where/departments they work) aren't allowed to trade their own books. They're just trading for the company they work for. It's easy to get the boot quick though if you aren't a greedy SOB for the company.

im stolked on seeing this posted. I FUCKING LOVE ANONYMOUS

^and i what is a 99%er? i thought it was all about the 5/10/85 split

they mad because they haven't figured out how to make money and are suuuuper jelly of the people that have....fairly typical of the peasantry

I agree, AB/BC need to do more value added processing, I think most industry experts / economists would agree with that. However, the building of multi-billion dollar processing plants does not happen over night. It requires HUGE private investment, with any investment comes risk, What I'm saying is you can't force anyone to build those kind of plants.

People who are opposed to a KEY pipline like the KEYSTONE XL hurt the industry as a whole. They create an unstable business environment where private investment is less likely to happen. The green party solution is to just choke the industry until they give in? That will never work. The green party solution would devastate an already hurting economy.

Its funny because they can piss and moan all they want about how much of the devil big corporations are but they rely on their iphones for their shitty instagram pictures.

Do you think there is absolutely nothing to be mad about looking at the state of our economy? In particular the corrupt financial sector that is most of wall street?

Regardless of what these poeple do...there will be literally 0 change from there retarted protests. And i would say its not really that corrupt...there is corruption in every industry. These people are just good at what they do and know what they need to do to get shit done

Don't you think you should be more angry at the government for squwandering trillions in tax $. Than at hard working job producing day traders and financial institutions that help grow private sector business and help produce wealth?

Well I put anarchists in quotes because most of them are just crusty socialists dressed in black car harts and punk rock band shirts

This is just silly. Obviously, we live in a capitalist society run by large corporations; people are going to own goods provided by these corporations... this doesn't mean that they can't protest some of their conduct. Boycotting is hardly going to be effective. We all live within the system, and people can try to bring about change without leaving the system entirely and living in a tent in the woods and making their own clothes etc.

This is just dumb (and I mean you using this picture to make any sort of point... not the people in the picture).
