Obama Wins Nobel...Blasphemy

you do realize that the deadline for nominations was 2 weeks after he was elected as president? right?

what the fuck did he do in those two weeks? or his entire presidency for that matter?

winning for giving false hopes sounds like bullshit to me.

You realize that this is the Nobel PEACE Prize, right? They already awarded the Nobel Prize of Medicine and the Nobel Prize of Chemistry, both of which were biological in nature.

Asked why the prize had been awarded to Mr Obama less than a year after he took office, Nobel Committee head Thorbjoern Jagland said: "It was because we would like to support what he is trying to achieve".

Obamas been trying to achieve the same thing the whole time. Hes had the strongest push for the destruction of nukes in a LONG time, which is exactly why the Nobel Prize was created. Nobel was upset that his inventions were so destructive (dynamite etc.). So what Obama has been trying to do this whole time is exactly what the Nobel Prize stands for.

I think the point he was trying to make is that at least for me, outside of when he announced his intent to run for president, I had never heard of him which is probably the same as many other people so we are all wondering what exactly did he do before president that would cause him to be qualified. I realize that generally the Nobel Peace Prize is a bit of a BS popularity contest cause like someone said earlier Yassar Arafat and Al Gore have both won it.

I find this absurd. The only thing Obama has done since he was elected is this...

The deadline might have been two weeks after, but that doesn't necessarily mean they decided at that time who would get the prize. I'm sure there's a decent amount of people nominated, and most of them probably receive no votes. Although I would still be inclined to agree that he hasn't done quite enough to be deserving of the Prize at this point.

*I base my ideas off of absolutely no research.

hahah, if anything, this news deserves the biggest LOL WUT? picture ever. I guess they are just giving these things away now, considering Gore got one. I usually don't give a shit about the Nobel Peace Prize, but this is just funny. Giving it to a guy who has done more to step away from his campaign promises than to deliver on them is just hilarious. Obama has accomplished absolutely NOTHING thus far, which is understandable because it is still his first year. But Nobel Prize, COME ON, talk about a political endorsement from Oslo. They should have waited at least a year before giving this clown a prize. Nobel Prize winner Lech Walessa, whom most of you should know about, expressed his confusion at this news by saying, "So soon, too early. He has no contribution so far." The Cult of Personality spans oceans.

He has also been on Rolling Stone, Men's Heatlh (TWICE), and he ends up on ESPN all the time cause of always talking about basketball.

Except for thats NOT AT ALL the reason he won. We won because of his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

Which he has done....

Im not sure why im arguing this, i really dont give a shit. And to be honestly im really not too huge of an obama fan anymore, but still, i dont see how anything the committee has said isnt true.

ohhhhh pleasssssse. If you believe he has had any impact along those lines, I overestimated your intelligence.

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about nukes. I seemed to have missed where did the committee mentioned that.

where did it say he has had impact? it said his EFFORTS. it sounds like they are trying to help his cause, not say that its already been successful.

but if you dont think the world view of us has changed over the past few months... id like to know what rock youve been under.

huh?

how are

"extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

and the effort to destroy nukes the same thing...

To your first paragraph thing:

"I always thought the Nobel Peace Prize was something you got AFTER you achieved it, not an award to say that they HOPE you achieved something.

To your second paragraph thing:

It may be that way in the polls, but people around the world still fucking hate us even if the politicians of said country don't. Gfs family is from France, they think Obama is one of the biggest douches the world has ever had to deal with.

If pushing for the "destruction of nukes" played a major role in winning the award, I'm sure the committee would have been bothered to mention it.

yeah. i have no problem with that. it was a guess. and i figured it made sense considering why the Nobel Prize was created. but regardless of that, they have said they are supporting his efforts. and he has made efforts, regardless of what hes actually accomplished

First of all, that's because the French fucking suck.

secondly,

I guess the Nobel committee are still banking on hope and change, remember how little of that has failed to materialize.

And yes, the idea that the world loves America now is HIGHLY IDEALIZED. Most of Eastern Europe hates the guy now because of the whole missile shield bullshit and the Dhali Lama is miffed because the Big O refused to meet with him. None of this matters anyway because we shouldn't give a shit what other countries think of us. Britain and Europe have their own problems dealing with massive debts and ineffective governments, so it's a bit arrogant to think we are the center of their attention. Also, why does it fucking matter when half of our own country thinks Obama is a moron? We should focus on the homefront, not on some "progressive" foreign country.

also, under Obama so far, the Iranians have continuously pushed the limits of international nuclear sanctions and the non-proliferation treaty. They continue to build nuclear plants. He is making the world a lot safer.

Which seems to pretty much be the reason why he won it. Former winner Lech Walesa basically said as much.

On a side note I am still trying to get my 20 bucks back from Obama that I gave to his campaign during the primaries. The fucker won't return my calls.

he changed how the world thought when he was elected...then he didn't do too much after that

i'm an obama supporter but i think this is a bit strange...he promised change indeed, but he hasn't made too many drastic changes

so now you have completely discredited yourself. what did he do before his presidency? did anyone know who he was? did he have any general experience in politics?

answers, definitely nothing noteworthy, no, and no.

This is just a question on my history. He served in the US Senate for like 2-3 years total right? Wasn't something like over 50% of his time in the Senate spent campaigning?

Also, the majority of his votes as a senator were "Present" not yay or nay. Couldn't commit to anything so he took the bitch way out.

what because people believe something you dont they are "narrow minded teenagers arguing about stuff they don't really have a grasp on." People are allowed to believe what they want and have their own opinion

The fact that many people remember him as "The Father of Modern Terrorism" should give you a clue. He was also an anti-semite and advocated the destruction of Israel. But who knows..

Ok, I don't understand this somewhat. Why is it so bad to be against Israel? At least from an American standpoint. Because to be honest, I think Israel, at least the way that it came about, was really REALLY shitty to do to the Palestnians who had been there for a long time.

It isn't so much bad for being against israel, it's the fact that he advocated a mass destruction of the Jews themselves. The whole Israel Palestine situation is a fucking shit storm as it is and you could argue soooo many different viewpoints, but it's obvious Arafat was off his rocker.

i'm going to get hated on for bring Reagan into this but a good quote from an article I read

"Ronald Reagan brought down the Iron Curtain, freed millions from tyranny, ended the Cold War, defeated the Soviet Union, ELIMINATED tens of thousands of nuclear weapons, and he didn't even get an honorable mention from the Nobel Committee. Obama makes (by my count) 7 great speeches and he gets a Nobel Peace Prize. Go figure."

Many conservative Israeli's would agree with you I suppose. In my opinion, Arafat ended up being a champion for Palestinian rights and was one of the constant players in the talks for Peace during the Clinton presidency.

I just dont like liberal politics period, they increase spending, and generally put emotions before logic.

Sums my point up perfectly, I used this for one of my debate classes

The Ant And The Grasshopper (Traditional)

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his

house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks

he’s a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away. Come

winter, the ant is warm and well fed. The grasshopper has no food or

shelter so he dies, out in the cold.

The Ant And The Grasshopper (Modern American Version)

The ant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building

his house and laying up supplies for the winter. The grasshopper thinks

he’s a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.

Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press conference

and demands to know why the ant should be allowed to be warm and well

fed while others are cold and starving. CBS, NBC and ABC show up to

provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a video of the

ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food. America is

stunned by the sharp contrast. How can it be that, in a country of such

wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

Then a representative of the NAAGB (The National Association

for the Advancement of Green Bugs) shows up on Nightline and charges

the ant with green bias, and makes the case that the grasshopper is the

victim of 30 million years of greenism. Kermit the Frog appears on

Oprah with the grasshopper, and everybody cries when he sings ‘‘It’s

not easy being green.’’

Bill and Hillary Clinton make a special guest appearance on the

CBS Evening News to tell a concerned Dan Rather that they will do

everything they can for the grasshopper who has been denied the

prosperity he deserves by those who benefited unfairly during the

Reagan summers.

Richard Gephardt exclaims in an interview with Peter Jennings

that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and calls

for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his ‘‘fair

share.’’ Finally, the EEOC drafts the ‘‘Economic Equity and

Anti-Greenism Act’’ retroactive to the beginning of the summer. The ant

is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and,

having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, files for bankruptcy,

and his home is confiscated by the courts.

Hillary gets her old law firm to represent the grasshopper in a

defamation suit against the ant, and the case is tried before a panel

of federal hearing officers that Bill appointed from a list of

single-parent welfare moms who can only hear cases on Thursday’s

between 1:30 and 3 PM.

The ant loses the case.

The story ends as we see the grasshopper finishing up the last

bits of the ant’s food while the government house he’s in, which just

happens to be the ant’s old house, crumbles around him since he doesn’t

know how to maintain it. The ant has disappeared in the snow. And on

the TV, which the grasshopper bought by selling most of the ant’s food,

they are showing Bill Clinton standing before a wildly applauding group

of Democrats announcing that a new era of ‘‘fairness’’ has dawned in

America.

Also forgot, JIMMUH CARTAH won it. BAHAHAHAHA, habitat for humanity is in the process of crumbling. Biggest joke in the history of presidents, for now. hehe

He only did that after he reached a point (late 80's early 90's) when he realized that almost 40 years of supporting armed and violent resistance wasn't working.

.... kinda my point, he was a hardened military leader that turned to diplomacy and peace. Whatever I guess, I just hold the Nobel with a bit of respect still.
