Obama Wins Nobel...Blasphemy

For sure, you gotta look at the whole situation from both perspectives. They were kicked out of their homeland. The Jews were offered land in several other places around the globe including Africa but they did not want it. Why? Because they wanted the land that is most holy to their religion. Just so happens that 3 religions find that land to be of supreme holy value. Also, the PLO does not represent all Palestinians. It is a shame that they have to operate out of Lebanon and Jordan along with Gaza and West Bank. But put yourself in there shoes, they are an entire people dispersed with no where they are welcome, same as the Kurds. It is not a simple decision of who gets the land, especially when both sides want it all. /rant.

I understand how you see it on the principle of repenting for some thing bad you've done...but I happen to find Arafat's case quite contradictory, even if you compare it to Alfred Nobel.

Dynamite was invented with practical purposes in mind, not military use. I was not untill other people exploted his invention to create violence and destruction.

Yasser Arafat, in contrast, knowingly and willingly sought destruction and violence against other human beings. Not only that, he helped to create a system that still performs violent and destructive actions. Towards the end of his career and life, he could not even control the system he created and supposedly still lead. I also am highly skeptical he would have stopped his violent campaign had it yielded better results for the Palestinians. Think about the for a second. It took him 40 years to change tactics!

I don't see much merit in his character. Certainly not enough reward him for outstanding effort towards peace.

...and someone doesn'tknow what an approval rating index is...basically any way you look at it, it's bullshit. Even my teacher who is the biggest Obama supporter ever was calling bull.

Yeah, I dunno if you've ever heard of a little organization called Fatah who killed a shitton of Israelis. Or maybe you've heard of the PLO, you know those guys that blow innocent people up? Yeah, sounds peaceful to me. Even though he vouched for peace during the Oslo Accords, he kinda lied to the UN about it anyway. So if it wasn't a joke, please enlighten me.

thats pretty stupid he won off hope alone. they shouldve waited 4 years to see if he did anything like he said he would

Honestly, if Obama refused this respectively, he would gain the respect of so many people. People who claim he's a narcissist (me) will be shut up. It will prove that he's not just trying to be a celebrity and still thinks he's in an election (with all the media he's getting). While, at the same time getting all the glory and press but on a positive note. If he just said, we should wait a year for me to really earn this prize, it would be a win-win. I mean, the guy was nominated for the position ONE MONTH after he was elected. It's absolute bullshit that he's in the same group of people as Mohammed Yunis (and the Grameen Bank) or Doctors Without Boarders. Look these two groups up and tell me if Obama has done ANYTHING similar to them.

oh fuck i should have reread that. hahaha this is the fourth time in the last two weeks my karma has gone over 7000 and then back down

Typical...narrow minded american. Sorry for the rest of you if you dont agree with this absurd statement.

But, no Obama did not deserve this prize. I think its made a mockery of the award this year. Nothing he has done has changed the world ?! Not saying i dislike the guy, hes just done fuck all yet!

I thought this was an amusing post from the blog of my favorite economist, Greg Mankiw:

First-Year Grad Student Wins Nobel Prize in Economics!

From the Associated Press (with some light editing):

Pfuffnick's Nobel Economics Prize triumph hailed by many

LONDON

— The surprise choice of first-year graduate student Quintus Pfuffnick

for the Nobel Prize in Economics drew praise from much of the world

Friday even as many pointed out the youthful economist has not yet

published anything in scholarly journals.

The new PhD candidate

was hailed for his willingness to tackle difficult problems, his

commitment to improving the economic system, and his goal of bringing

efficiency and equality into harmony.

Professor Paul Krugman of

Princeton, who won the prize in 2008, said Pfuffnick's award shows

great things are expected from him in the coming years.

"In a

way, it's an award coming near the beginning of the first year in grad

school of a relatively young economist that anticipates an even greater

contribution towards making our economy a better place for all," he

said. "It is an award that speaks to the promise of Mr Pfuffnick's

message of hope."

He said the prize is a "wonderful recognition of Pfuffnick's essay in his grad school application."

First it was that fucking GAY michael franti song praising a dude for doing absolutely nothing, now this. Fucking stupid.

I support Obama with most of his ideas but I do not believe that he should have gotten the Nobel this year. Maybe a year or two from now when we see if his policies worked or not. That being said, the nominations for the prize were right after he was elected and there were a bunch of people all around the world who were completely stoked on him being elected, so it is pretty easy to see how he was elected. I am just surprised that he made it this far and actually beat out the other 200 people.

Obama won the nobel peace prize off a good intention. Once agian, off good intention. Now the committee made this decision two weeks after the election. Now that it is October, the question is had Obama accomplished any of these intentions. NOPE. So next time I make a good intention will I get a Nobel Peace Prize? I could promise to end world hunger, but will I? Probably not. This is redicuolous.

I hope nobody was surprised by this.

Clinton is sitting at home, hears the news ans exclaims, "Motherfucker!"

I heard someone on CNN say Obama got the prize not for what he's done but for what he can do. In other news the National Football League announced today that the Kansas City chiefs will win the super bowl. They decided that the team has the heart and will to win, even though they are 0-4 and they will be announced the winners.

ok i'm sure someone said this already but i'm too lazy to read thru the thread...

votes were due in on february 1...what did he accomplish in his first 11 days?

and someone told me i was jealous of obama for winning the NPP.. of course i'm fucking jealous! if anyone should win a NPP for doing absofuckinglutely nothing, it should be ME!

We elected a black president. It is very good for the view of America other nations have of us. Countries all over the world applauded us for our progressive step forward. This overall eases international tensions and is therefore a step towards a more peaceful globe.

They didn't give this award to Obama, they gave it to America's first black president. It really doesn't matter who it is. He's sort of like a token though which is kind of funny.

Personally I don't really care who gets the Nobel peace prize anyway, my boss was raging soooooooo hard yesterday though, he's so racist. It was funny. And I'm not calling him racist because he didn't think Obama should get the peace prize, he is just actually racist.

lets give the cowboys the super bowl now, they inspire many people and they are willing to play other teams, and whatnot.

ok but dont hate obama for this he didnt give himself the award, be mad at the committee dont just randomly spew hate at obama and liberals

If anything, I think it shows how resentful Europeans were of American foreign policy in the past presidency and how Obama's election has shown the world a different side of America. One that we'll work with people, not fight them to get what we want. Obama's election has shown a dramatic change in America and how we interact to the world, and Europeans are happy about this.

Do I feel he deserved it? No, but it will hopefully encourage him to strive towards peace, and he still has 3 years ahead of him to make change. Its entirely possible he'll deserve it, but its too early for the award for sure.

probably shouldn't have won it but he is the first black president of america which is probably why they actually hooked him up with the award but they didnt wanna say so so they wouldn't start a ton of shit

this. i dont understand how its obamas fault he got it. hes admitted himself he doesnt think he deserved it

Time to be a dick. If he doesn't think he deserved it, why doesn't he not accept it. That is the biggest problem I have with him accepting it, if he thinks he doesn't deserve it, then don't accept it. People, like me, who are anti-Obama will maybe come over and realize you aren't such a bad guy. Accepting something that you and many other don't think you deserve makes it at least APPEAR that you are only wanting to be president because you want to feel like a rockstar even though you have no musical talent.

but not accepting it is a dick move too you know? he cant really win either way there. i just dont understand the big deal over it all. did he deserve it? fuck no. does it change the fact that he hasnt done anything? no. does it change what hes planning on doing (regardless of whether he accomplishes it or not)? no. it makes literally no difference.

What was so good that Obama did to deserve this award? Cash for clunkers program? I mean seriously, WE ARE IN A RECESSION and hasnt done shit about it, he doesn't deserve this award. Neither did Al gore.

But look at it this way. A former winner says he doesn't deserve it, CNN and MSNBC (his two biggest supporting news agencies) are wondering what he has done to get it, and even the man himself doesn't feel he deserves it. From and image standpoint, at least for me, if he didn't accept it he would gain far more respect from someone like me whereas accepting it AND going to Europe to accept the award at the ceremony will just piss people off more who already disliked him.

Thing is, he would look like a douche to people that would think it is a good thing if he dropped a Nuke on Boston (meaning the blind followers), possibly a douche to a fair portion of Europe. But to the people that are level headed in this country, he would gain respect, and support that he could use right now.

lol. no he wouldnt. 99.9% of the people who disagree with him would hate him regardless. it wouldnt gain him shit worth of respect. lets be real here. most of the people that hate him hated him before he was elected. most of the population knows who they are voting for before the candidates are even chosen. that (D) is why people hate him, not because of some nobel prize

But see, people who hated him before, just hate him more now. I am one of them, I'll be honest, I think the guy is a fucking moron. But I could tell you right now that if I knew he was nominated, was given the award, but chose to not accept it, I would hate him slightly less cause it would show, to me at least, he doesn't want to just be a rockstar president on the covers of magazines and shit.

But this is just me I guess.

but you still wouldnt vote for him. so it doesnt really matter in the long run. its not like its going to help him get shit done, or get re elected.

Except I did vote for him. I even gave his campaign $50 during the primaries cause I thought he would be a good thing for the USA. Then the debates and shit started, and I started looking at previous speeches from when he was a Senator and he was, not in too great a way, contradicting himself here and there and it was a little worrying for me.

you are not the vast majority of the population. most of them would vote for hitler as long as he was nominated by their party of choice.

1. The media, Obama, and a shitload of people have said that he didn't deserve it. That must feel great for the people who spent all that time coming to a decision on who to give it to, they're probably sitting there saying "well at least he didn't give it back."

2. If he said "I don't deserve it, i don't want it, give it to someone else," then not only are they going to feel more like crap than they already do, but they're going to have to find somebody else to give it to, and the person they give it to is gonna feel like crap for accepting an award that somebody else didn't want. so more people are gonna feel like crap, there's gonna be a longer process, and generally everybody comes out looking like a giant douchebag.

3. This isn't even an issue. I'll bet most of the people who are bitching about Obama winning it don't even know who was the last person to win it. The only reason people care is because they see it as another excuse to bash Obama.
