NZ in August

Is August the best time to ride in NZ? I would like to come down there for about 4-5 weeks, but I haven't a clue besides the plane ticket... I was thinking of going to Wanaka.

Any sweet places to crash? Any good camps I could attend? I just wanna ski so I don't need any expensive bullshit...

August is the best month for snow i think, and wanaka is diff the best place to go
