NS SIA Tradeshow Coverage....

I'm not usually one to complain with how NS does things BUT, This years SIA coverage has been subpar and disorganized IMO. I like the idea of having each company get its own article on the NS homepage but there seems to be much less content from each brand than in years past, so this really just creates a lot of clutter. I feel like there are a lot of companies that they missed even all together(Icelantic, Bluehouse, Surface just to name a few).

/Rant

Does anyone else feel this way tho??

well they aren't done so hold your horses, personally i like having the separate days for each, you guys just need to be patient.

That's what blew it for me. And yes it's the 4th day and they hardly showed us anything haha

On a lighter note, freeskier.com has some good coverage with LOTS of photos.

the day 1/2/3 was too much loading, i like that you can pick the companies you want to check out...but i used to watch all the videos, and there are none....i like the format but next year they need more vids and pics

they could skip the photos and just do a video for the booths they do.

also how many guys do they have doing it? cause there's a lot of booths.

Yeah that's no excuse. Bet you'd be willing to go cover it all if they flew ya out there right? This years coverage sucks all the way around. Freeskier is a touch better but even their coverage sucked. Think everyone dropped the ball this year.

definitely would, i was even in colorado up until yesterday stopped by the icelantic place in denver while they were getting ready. i'm sure the people at the booth would be glad to explain stuff for a video if they knew where there advertising was going.

Jesus go buy a fucking ticket and go to SIA yourself if you want better coverage. Wah wah wah my free internet coverage isn't up to my standards. Fuck off.

Usually I would agree with that kind of sentiment, especially since I don't give a shit about next year's shit. But that said, NS is supposed to be the preeminent ski site with thousands of members waiting to ogle this shit, and they fucked the pooch bad.

One thing you have to realize is that SIA is where a lot of business is conducted for the next winter. This means people at the tradeshow are working all day and don't always have time to do videos with the various media outlets. Also some brands do not want their product pictured and put on the internet months before it's going to be released. I'll agree this years coverage was a bit less than previous years but since SIA moved to Denver and is going on at the exact time as XGames it's pretty hard to get coverage on both events. Be grateful you're getting a sneak peak at next winters product and keep an eye for more information/pictures in the next couple months.

For anyone who really just wants to see a ton of pictures we also have a running gallery where we'll be collecting all of the images as they are posted in articles

We know there are some people who are less than stoked about this format. This new setup has an end goal here of being more than just a splash of pictures. We wanted to take some time, give a better rundown of a companies line, and include some information of whats new and changed. Everyone goes to these, takes one or 2 pictures of an entire wall of skis where you only get to see top sheets. We talked to the reps, found out what cool new stuff they wanted to highlight, like shape/rocker or a new tech and focused more. We want this to be a reference for you guys again later in the season when you start making decisions of what to get next year.

We try to give you both the widest coverage while at the same time making it comprehensive. We hope to keep everyone happy, and always open to suggestion

As far as Oakley goes, we are definitely missing some photos there. Just waiting for our photographer to look into it. There was a misscomunication on that one and hopefully we'll get it updated asap with the rest of the lineup

Also really dissapointed in this. the majority of SIA pages I have looked at are just photos with a few product names and maybe some tidbit of info. SIA coverage in the past was kick ass, bring it back!

WHERE THE FUCK IS THE COVERAGE OF ARMADA'S PARK SKIS.

Seriously tho i'd love to see that shit.

u couldnt be more worng...^

my "secret shopper" article is done and will make YOU feel like you were at the show...come live vicariously through me as i performed the first ever JIB ski test and review at the on snow demo as well.

usually coverage from armada is not really "allow" by armada since every year someone gets the catalog early and takes pics they will delete them. but you can see some shitty pics of the skis in the 12/13 gear thread. nothing changed from armada. they just added 2 skis along with the already released bubba. they kept the arg but just made it a limited model

A little (hopefully) constructive criticism.

Pictures are cool... I like to see next years stuff... but I'd really like some info on this new stuff. That is the reason I follow SIA updates, not just to look at shiny new stuff.

Since dalbellos seem to be the only boots that fit my feet well, I was really disappointed in the coverage. No lasts listed (probably 98mm again on the alpine boots, not sure on the touring boots) no flexes listed, no descriptions AT ALL other than the names of the boots. Like the "KR two fusion." Cool, i know the name but It would be nice to know what exactly is different than this years krypton cross and what makes it a "fusion."

Same with the touring boots, (not that I'm even in the market for a touring boot right now) There are three shown, with no explanation to how they differ. Once again, I could venture a guess, but it would be nice to have a solid explanation.

this would be cool, if it was what you actually did. Unfortunately you just posted a handful or less fairly worthless photos for most of the companies.

When people go to buy skis they will have the published version of Powder/Freeskier/Skiing/Ski/Skier/Backcounty/etc to go off of. NS could actually probably do a ski test, and get a lot of companies to show up for it. Of course you would probably need to not fuck it up like you just did the SIA coverage.

legendary jimbo, owner of badass tomahawk article was entertaining, mimicking is the best form of flattery...

Armada t-hall has been totally re-designed. but as mentioned, pics cant be released until march1.Roxa is a new ski boot company but obviously not trendy enough for anyone to review the boots. They are the exact raichle boot mold as every other boot company with a run of the mill intuition liner, its a no brainer considering they cost half as much as the leading boot co.

Watch for my article called Secret Shopper, first on snow ski test with legit write up.

Probably has gotten harder over the years to cover the event. The amount of companies on the floor must be getting much larger.

agree coverage is completely wack.

there used to be easily 10x as many photos per brand the past few years. seeing 5 pics per brand/no descriptions/videos what so ever is just lame. ive had to go to other blogs and sites to get my normal fix for sia.

If you're strapped for cash check out last years SIA coverage! All the same shit at bargain basement prices.

that's because the Oakley booth sucked. They just had a couple googles out front and everything else was by appointment only for buyers. I would have liked to see a widget on the homepage for the content instead of all separate articles on the news feed tho.
