NS selling out commercially?

I can perfectly understand the banner ads for ski companies on NS. The Salomon ads, Corupt stuff, etc makes sense on a ski website. But I don't want to log in to NS to see horrible ads for singles in my area. Is this necessary to keep NS afloat? I've donated over $100 to this site to help avoid this problem over the years. Whenever NS staff would make an announcement about needing funds to avoid from using various outside advertising I have always chipped in. When did the switch occur to use non-skiing ads?

Please don't get me wrong. I am very appreciative of NS and have enjoyed being a user for six years now. When I first started posting here, the Darkside was a sweet ski and there were rumors about this sick company called Armada that would be releasing skis. Does NS just cost a lot more to run nowadays?

Wow. I just posted this, then navigated to the Buy/Sell/Trade and the first ad is some chick cupping her breasts while wearing very little.

I'm sure hosting and server costs have increased shitloads over time with the increased traffic, but i'm not sure what that translates to as far as cost goes..I think it would be significant

well lets face it, with the amount of money in the ski industry its hard to find skiing adds that pay a lot. The moneys are coming from anoying advertising and thats why were seeing some. These allow for all of the cool stuff on ns to happen like contests, the store, news coverege. There are more costs involved with newschoolers than just hosting a web site. The news articles for example dont just pop up like that. People have to be payed to go on site, including passes, a place to stay, food... There are lots of costs involved with giving us these news articles that we often take for granted.

NS has a lottttt of members, especially lurkers like myself.

a few ads from ski companies will nowhere near pay to keep this site up.

quite frankly there just aren't enough ski companies since most of them are just part of a handful of conglomerates.

I spy with my little eye a netflix and a WOW add. I can condone this because I agree to support Schmucks lifestyle.

It's not just about not wanting to see the ad, it's about NS getting away from being a "core" skiing site by selling out and showing ads of non ski related things.
