I used to draw the old logo with my finger on super dirty cars in the Mt Bachelor parking lot. I did it all the time. New logo was aids

I don't care if it's the most confusing logo ever, this one is nostalgic:

NS Clothing again. Not newschoolers. Harvey was very particular about differentiating NS Clothing and Newschoolers.

I guess that explains why it seems so nostalgic to me. It's what I saw people wearing before I joined this site. That logo is probably one of the reasons I joined, or at least joined when I did. I remember being on a lift with a guy and seeing that logo on a shirt or something and asking him what it meant and told me to come here and I've been pretty hooked on the site ever since.

Dude, that story used to be how we got 96% of the traffic to Newschoolers.

So what I'm hearing is we need to decide on what the dopest NS stickers in the universe are, and then hit the afterburners on massive distribution.

Exactly, I think the fact that the old clothing logo was so confusing is what made it interesting and made me look it up. With "newschoolers" literally written out there's no guessing or intrigue, it just get's lost in with the other brand logos on helmets or skis. Now just going back to that logo would be sweet, but I think coming up with something new/different that isn't as cryptic but still interesting is the key. The old blocky NS was cool and "fedex arrow" like, but it was still pretty straight forward. You want something that is going to stand out from the other 50 stickers on a groms helmet. Be the one that makes people ask "hey, what's that mean?"

Maybe a logo design contest?

I second both of these points. A logo contest would be sweet.

My takeaway from this? We need more NS clothing. Seriously, I think that is the best "advertisement" for the site, I remember seeing the logo around on helmets a couple times before I joined but I think things like the NS jacket are super rad. Get some rad clothes in the store and get some good skiers in em. Get as many kids wearing and displaying the logo as possible. Make it easier to get stickers and have more items in the store. Can you imagine if the best skier at the mountain rocked some kind of NS clothing?

I realize that is a lot of work and probably impractical but it would be so rad for spreading the word.

Well i think the new fuck schoolers shirt that doug had at if3 would be perfect. Ill take 20

Someone do a mashup of the old logo with the stacked text.

I'm not sure how other's think of this. Regardless I tried a few different options. Figured I would let people check them out and see whether they like them or not.

anyway here is how I mashed them up:

I am also aware some people not like any of them. I am completely open to constructive criticism.

^^I like the first and last, don't care for the others where newschoolers is stacked on top of the rest of them

You said you're open to criticism, so here goes, I feel like these are too busy and I also feel like gradients are very dated, I like the old (or new I guess) curvy NS better than any of those, the logo needs to be uber clean and simple, I see the problems with the curvy logo but I think it's simplicity and immediate recognize-ability were it's strong points

I agree with the 'busy' and 'gradients are dated' but if this is cleaned up, simplified, and made as one base colour, I'd find this logo a million times more recognizable as newschoolers than the curvy 'new' one ever was - not to mention a million times more clever.

Then again I'm ancient history, so maybe I'm out of loop of what's recognized to most.

I like everything going on in this thread. More stickers to the masses and an update to the clothing department. Keep the ideas flowing

Dude reverse the balance or make it equal. I always felt that one of the weaknesses of the new logo was that the text was sweet but being dwarfed by the logo wasn't right.

The main question really is if these two things fit together or not of course. :)

NICE WORK!

This. Scale up that stacked text to the same height. and we are in business!

Seeing as changing sizes are super simple in the vector/font format I have this in it was a breeze.

View attachment 729070

Also added another just because the stacked needs to be bigger for the reason that stacks win stacks.

View attachment 729069

(It's not that much bigger but didn't want it to be too much bigger. also if you wanna see the old NS logo smaller I can still do that.)

Last, but not least...

Fuck it, that's why.

I kind of feel like they just clash and don't work together. I don't think its what you're doing, its just that its two eras together and it isn't quite a fit.... I dunno am I crazy?

Maybe the newschoolers needs a different font that matches the ns better?

I don't think its as much the style, as it's the implementation.

This, for sure. Make it something more aesthetically pleasing and we may be in business.

Either that or fuck the stacked text. That shit will be out of style in a month. This is a website, not a nike Tshirt from two years ago. Everyone knows this logo, c'mon.

I mean we're on the stacked text shit right now, and we have OG logo. Ramming them together may not work, but using them separately has no bad side effects as I see it.

Now starting the discussion of a new logo.... or new text to go with old logo... now we're going down a whole other rabbit hole.

Unless someone can come up with something super creative and awesome for a logo, I say independent stacked text or old logo might be the way to go...

THIS!

I did another quick little thing playing around with placement, I do not think it is good enough to be a logo or anything. Just figured it's neat to brainstorm ideas. You never know it might kick start an idea in someone else.

729098.jpeg

(I personally just really dig the Schoolers part)

I also had an idea to perhaps build the old logo out of the lettering of the stacked text. I haven't done it because it would just be a lot of work and I was also afraid that it might look like poop when I finished.

13147346:DingoSean said:
Sorry bud,

No worries I knew it was a complete shot in the dark. Also The Giant "EW" consuming the majority of the left side doesn't help it's case. hahaha

Also I just had a headache with pictures. What if it's an animated gif of a blank white ski base and The Newschoolers lettering grinds and slides their way on it as if it's a rail train. some select letters spinning butters and slides and what not.

Thoughts?

here's something a little new and a little og.

729109.jpeg

I think it's a little meh, but I did manage to fire in some skiing aspect while using a much older logo.

^ I see what you're trying to do, but there's just no balance in it IMO.

I think the stacked text/old logo combo has a lot of potential. The reason it's thrown off is the cut corners of the logo clashing in close proximity with the square text of the stacked text. What would happen if you squared the logo corners? Would it lose all it's appeal?

(This was my favorite ns logo, id love to see it back).

The problem I had with the original rendition was that its hard to quickly see how the bottom of the stacked text and logo line up due to that cut out. You're right, it's different, but I actually like this one a lot.

My 2 cents, thoughts?

Dub post, deal with it. Nice work LE, and thanks for doing this. It's definitely helpful to see things in front of you as opposed to just reading descriptions and imagining other people's ideas.

This was another idea PM'd to me by dingosean

close to the last idea as proposed by blondie.

Here it is:

729146.jpeg

really good idea was to flip the curvy part around on one side(the left) so that it doesn't seem strange that it's just flat and straight edged. also still fits with the s and provides a solid line all the way down to not distract from the stacked logo too much.

That looks better than I thought it would, actually.

Maybe also try the logo un-changed and move the stacked text to the side with the S on it? maybe it will help define the S better? IDK.
