Im sure there is a thread somewhere about diving but i haven't come across it.

how many of you dive? I am wondering if you know of any good dive forums, the ns of the ocean?

Got certified awhile ago but still haven't had a chance to go on any major trips. been itching to go somewhere for awhile.

I'm certified. Only been on one trip. I went down to the Florida keys and lived on a sail boat for a week doing 3-4 dives a day. I'd love to get back out again this summer

Search for scuba diving there's a whole thread on it. But yeah I do, can't wait to get back in the water

Thought this was going to be about diving like springboard/platform. Would love to go diving on a reef somewhere though.

My school has a diving class in the fall. I really wanted to take it but it never fit into my schedule. Woulda been so cool, you get to dive under the ice when winter comes too

yeah, we've pulled some bodies out. (yes, i have pics, but out of respect for the dead I'm not posting them) sometimes it's a car that has gone in to the river, other times it'll be a sunken boat. sometimes it's just a farmer that has had his irrigation pump get clogged up and he needs someone to go down and get it unclogged.

i guess you could say that it's kind of scary. not so much because you're searching for a body or whatever, but more so because it's in the Mississippi river which is full of sediment....aka you can't see 6 inches in front of your face. it's literally diving by feel. you can't see a fucking thing. it's a very claustrophobic feeling....even though it's technically no different than diving with 100 ft of visibility.

i got started diving because of my old man. he's been a cop for 35 years or so. he was on the police dive team when I was younger. however, due to budget constraints, the official dive team was disbanded 15 years or so ago. so here we are in an area with two good sized rivers, the Mississippi being one of them, and there's no police/fire dive team. so we kind of started just doing our own thing. police/fire will call and we go.

i got my PADI jr. open water certification when I was 12 years old and have been diving ever since. my old man became an instructor 10+ years ago, so that helps, too. now i've damn near got more certifications than i know what to do with.

it's fucking awesome. i dove in Belize a few years ago which has the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world (second to the GBR in Australia). Absolutely breath taking.

not belize, but some dive porn for you guys:

biggest sea turtle i've ever seen. this pic doesn't do it's size justice...truly fucking massive.

I have been wanting to take some freediving classes, anyone have any experience with this, is it worth it?

Been certified for a couple years now...What are your favorite dives? Mine being a night dive in Kona, so many manta rays..unbelievable if you guys want I'll edit the footage together and link it in the thread...

god fucking damn it. i had a big ass post with a bunch of pics and NS fucking shit out on me when i clicked reply. piece of shit website.

i don't have a ton of pics because i'll be the first to admit that i'm not a photographer, but here's a few i think are kinda cool

I have been certified for about 8 years now, i have my advanced diver, enriched air, and photographer. my most memorable dive would have to be either a cold water dive in fryday harbor in Washington. or a night dive in montezuma, costa rica. my heart still races every time i see sea turtles thats one reason i love diving in cozumel, and the Lion Fish hunting is great. if you guys haven't tried lion fish hunting i would highly suggest it because they taste amazing.

if you cut off the spikes they are an amazing white fish and make an awesome ceviche. The boat captain knew how to cut them up properly with out touching the spines. i would highly suggest it if it is big enough if not just feed them to the morays

I had a chance to get my PADI for $50 from a friend in Guam, and the first ear infection I've ever had in my life decided to show it's ugly face the day of what should have been my first dive.

Super bummed to miss that. It was not fun snorkeling 80 feet above and clearly being able to see them swimming around the reefs without me.

i was going to feel bad for you, but then i remembered that you get to fly jets for a living.

for real though, that sucks. i probably would have just popped a bunch of pseudo and gone for it. but then again, i don't always make the best decisions, lol.

@Lando - you saw a bunch of Lion fish in Coz? I did about 25 dives down there over the course of a week or so last March and only bagged up one. and it's not because i wasn't looking...i'm always on the prowl for those fuckers.

I've been certified for about 3 years, but unfortunately haven't been able to go on many dives due to living in Alberta. I've only got my open water, but I wanna do some advanced courses. By far my favorite dive has been a night dive in Roatan. It's amazing to see the complete change of the reef from day to night, and the bioluminescence is mind blowing. I was lucky enough to go out on a dark night, so the String of Pearls was incredibly bright once we turned off our flashlights.

certified ~10 years ago....going to Bonaire next month bringing my gopro. hopefully see an octopus have only caught a couple fishing, would love to see one underwater.

yeah, it's actually where i got certified....but i was like 13 or something at the time and didn't really give a shit...i was like meh sea life

going back with a little more enthusiasm :)

Bonaire is incredible- easily best diving i have ever experienced with cozumel as a close second. Looking forward to belieze or palau in the near future as well

Belize was great, and the blue hole is well worth the boat ride assuming your going to be at ambergris caye. if you have never dove Cozumel def do palancar deep. Easily one of the top drift dives.

I've never dove Palau or any pacific, all of my experience is in the mesoamerican and Belize barrier reefs but I'd kill to dive anywhere in the indo-pacific. I've heard and read great things. Plus it's a totally different marine system than what I'm used to.

I have never done any diving but watched a programme about the blue hole in Dahab, Egypt. There is an archway 58m down that causes a lot of divers to come into difficulty as it is too deep for scuba gear i think the presenter was saying.Anyway i was watching some more videos of it on youtube and saw this guy free dive down through the arch and back up again, was the most amazing feat I think i've ever seen someone achieve - 58m down, 30m through the arch 58m back up again.

man i'm jealous. i didn't get a chance to hit up the blue hole when i was in belize, but i've heard it's fucking awesome. fortunately, the in-laws have a condo on Ambergris Caye, so I'll be back real soon.

I'd definitely put Belize leaps and bounds ahead of Cozumel as far as diving quality is concerned.

Question here for all of you legit divers.

I have dove 8 times. A couple times in Cayman, and once in Jamaica. I fucking love it, it's absolutely unbelievable. But when I started my certification process, they told me I can't dive because I'm an asthmatic. Every medical professional I talked to said the same thing. So it seems I am done diving.

Are any of you guys asthmatic? Is it really that dangerous for asthmatics? I've read so much conflicting shit.

well, you could be putting yourself at serious risk of collapsing a lung(s), arterial gas embolism, etc..

is your asthma generally allergy induced, or is it exercise induced? if it's exercise induced, you should probably steer clear. if it's allergy induced, you should be OK to dive.

read this article

and this one

There is some incredible incredible diving at cozumel if you steer clear from the most popular dive sites- but I guess Il just have to check out belize to really be able to compare the two.

yeah, i mean don't get me wrong, cozumel was dope and all, but belize was off the hook. more sharks, more rays, less people, water so warm i was diving 100 ft+ deep dives in nothing but board shorts and my bcd....just fucking awesome.

I have exercise induced asthma and I've been diving for a few years now. My doctor cleared me, he dives as well so he knows his shit. Plus, I rotated through an ER where one of the docs used to specialize in barotrauma/dive medicine. You should be fine unless your asthma is super uncontrolled.

i second the notion of wanting to try freediving. i read on a german freedive company which is operating on some greek island that most beginners end up doing 2-4 minute dives up to 15-25 meters deep after just a week of instruction.

i am PADI advanced certified. did the open water diver on the gilli islands and got the advanced cert on bali. kinda similar, although bali is a shitton better in the anemone/"plant" (i know they are not plants) area, whereas the gillis suffered a lot due to dynamite fishing in that regard, but there is still an abundance of bigger wildlife.

would love to go once more, but also would like to try, as mentioned, the freediving thing. those vids on youtube look so fun. not the 300ft apnoe shit with those sleds. no, just fucking around in 60 ft water on a reef looks like such a blast

i've been a few times and it's fucking awesome. we went hunting lobsters with spear guns in about 50 ft. in belize. i can only stay down about a minute and a half, but it's still lots of fun. the lobsters were quite tasty, too.

i wish i lived in an area that allowed me to do it more frequently. i'd eat fresh seafood caught by me on the reg.

Came here expecting this
