First of all, we should just make a sticky thread for ad complaints. I understand we need ads to pay for the site, and im fine with that. I actually turned off my adblocker for this site to make you guys money. But this one that just runs across the fricken screen right in the middle of the posts is annoying as hell.

ive never gotten that one. the best one iver ever gotten was the double pits to chesty one. its so cool

the sad thing is, once I opened this thread that thing flew across into my . It like tv ads showing up when there are subtitles in the screen and the ad covers them.....
 
Yeah holy shit, heaven for bid I move my cursor into the header above.

But there's a pop up asking my opinion on some shit and If I see that again, I'm going to throw a small child out a window.

I know ads help NS, but I have resorted to ad block and then blocking everything on this site haha.
 
holy shit. i was just coming to peruse the threads in site discussion to see if there was one of these. otherwise i was gonna make one.

ads are one thing, but adds that come out of nowhere? is NS selling out to the man?
 
Yup... I keep getting these ads that just slide out of nowhere.
Everybody bitched about ads being on NS.. I didn't care. It's just a picture on the side or whatever... Easy to deal with. But these sliding ads... those are pissing me off.
 
i know does this only happen to me but does the advertisements at the top also pop up when your mouse drags over them that happens to me so often and it is so anoying
 
A member messaged me saying that double pits to chesty and various other ads were blocking the vote button for the polls on the home page..atleast on his screen. Anyone else getting this?
 
i can live with double pits to chesty, i die a little inside, but i can deal with it
HOWEVER, the survey that pops up and the western connecticut college popups are not okay
 
in one thread viewing, i have pop ups dropping down from the top and ones flying across my screen....lame.
 
I'm so sick of the ads on NS. The flashing banners and drop down ads are OK i guess, but the video section has gone to crap because of the ads. I find myself watching Double Pits to Chesty before EVERY NS video that's 30 seconds or longer. Lots of vids fall in the 30 sec to 1 min range and watching a 30 second ad before a 31 second video sucks. Also, starting today this survey ad flies onto the page every 3-4 times i refresh, but this doesn't bug me as much. The video section is my favorite part of NS and its really what identifies the site as a ski-based website, instead of youtube or vimeo. If the embed option is taken away without the ads being fixed, im guessing people just won't use that section. Ads are OK! Just don't fuck up the videos haha
 
Guys I completely understand your frustration. Honestly, since its summer we're trying a few things. The double pits to chesty campaign is a huge one for us, and I for one am stoked that axe threw down for NS like that.

The pop-up was a piece of new technology that we were trying to use to get some survey results, but it was only ever supposed to come up once. I'll look into this one.

The frequency of video ads is another problem. You shouldn't be getting them all the time, and we'll work to tweak this until its much more usable, and we can have a balance between revenue and user experience.

As a free service, we have no choice but to be an advertising-supported business. The internet as we know it can't survive... everything is free with no ads. How could that possibly support itself?

The old saying holds true... there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Hell, I don't know why we get the bad rap... why doesn't anyone bitch that half of the pages in a magazine are ads?

Imagine if HALF of the site was ads?

 
pits chesty isnt too bad, but the video ones suck,a dn so do the pop ups, as they have nothing to do with this site as far as i cant see.
btu since ns is free i candeal with it.
 
I want NS to make bank. But i dont want Ads that get in my way of enjoying NS examples: when the top bar goes big when your mouse goes by it, and the ad that flies on the screen.
Double pits to chesty does get annoying, but w,e.
 
I'm looking into this pop-up issue, because yeah this is not supposed to be happening. There is one survey that is supposed to come up once to get some info, but only once.

You should all really make sure to check for spyware. There is lots of spyware out there that gets on you computer and can replace the ads in a site, launch crazy things, pop-up, etc. Its pretty gnarly actually.

Get something like Spybot SD, its free and great!

yeah, im still getting the popup survey thing, but repeatedly. and im on a mac, so spyware is less likely, not impossible, but im pretty careful.
 
so today i was watching a video (embeded from vimeo) and every time i would hit play, pause, maximise the video, or click on anything in the video it would pop up an ADTECH add in a new window... MAKE THEM STOP!
